That's the way the ol' ball bounces

Is it just me, or have we had an inordinate number of unlucky breaks this year? I'm not talking about bad calls or lack of execution. I'm talking about things like the ball bouncing off Witten's shoe directly up to a Giant defender. (and yes I know it was a poorly executed pass, however it's one in a thousand that the ball would bounce directly to the defender.)

Or Manningham not catching a pass cleanly only to have it fall right on top of him while he's on his back in the endzone. Or the bad punt in one of the games that bounces about 30 yards towards our end of the field after it first touches the ground.

How many of these unlucky breaks can you count that have went against us vs lucky ones that went for us?

This isn't a complaint thread or a blame thread. I'm just wondering if my perception is right or wrong that we seem to have been snake bit so far this year over and above the mistakes we've made.

I think that the Giants game was like that. But we never should have put ourselves in a position where those unlucky breaks tip the balance of the outcome of that game.

The Giants game was absurd. We couldn't buy a break. If we had ONE bounce in that game, maybe the Witten heel thing, we win that game despite the turnovers by Romo and Felix. How about the tipped pass on 3rd down by Ratliff? The Giants would have been left with a long field goal attempt on 4th down. Instead it deflects right into a Giant's hands - pure luck.
We'd be 4-1 and they'd be 4-2. What a wasted opportunity.....

What about that tipped pass on 3rd down against denver? It seemed like the slight graze of the ball made what was an off throw hit the reciever perfectly. I don't remember if that was the drive they scored the winning td on but I know it was late in the game.

Oh..ok.
How does one do that again?
Sometimes bad calls and freak bounces occur despite one team outplaying another (and trying to "make their own luck").

Hmmm....well for starters you get a defense that does not collapse in the final two minutes.

You people, you'd blame the snow in Russia for the Cowboys losing if you could.

You're obviously not in the right mood for a thread like this. Can't you just, for once, lighten up and have fun with thread that's neither rah, rah, rah, or the sky is falling? Don't make me use uppercase on you.:p:

I know what you mean. Sometimes while watching another game, i’ll see a flukie play happen and think “that would happen to the Cowboys.”

Or lack of good luck. For example, one play in the Kansas City game, a pass was defected in the air and landed perfectly between Hamlin and Jenkins. Why doesn’t it go into the direction of a defender?

I think Wade has a curse over him and he has brought it to the Cowboys.

99 times out of a hundred, that ball ricochets harmlessly to the ground and I don't believe that's an exaggeration at all.

How many times have we watched Patrick Crayton hold a ball like a loaf a bread and nothing happens? No one barely touches him. No one BARELY touches him...

Two fluke plays. Two field goals.

I really think it's more like one in a thousand. He didn't even see the ball bounce to him. He had no idea until it hit him in the hands.

That pass was horrid. Absolutely terrible. The outcome was as bad as they get but that pass was puke worthy.

As far as the fumble goes, they happen.

Sure, they're cruddy outcomes but Dallas sealed its own fate in that game. You could just as easily point to other plays and say "if they didn't happen".

Problem is, they did happen. And for Dallas it's really not anything new. These crappy bounces, unfortunate turns seem to hunt this team. Just another game in a list of games where Dallas has found another unique way to lose.

It usually evens out over the course of the season.

It was just one of those days. Some days nothing goes right for you, and everything goes right for the opposition. At least it wasn't the playoffs.

There's a reason why defensive players work on tip drills, only this time it was tipped by a foot instead of a hand. Give credit to Phillips for being alert and having good hands.

I agree and logic would tell you so. But I'm talking about so far this season it seems like we've had more unlucky breaks than lucky ones.

Again, this is NOT intended to be a "Boo hoo, we would be 5-0 if the ball bounced our way" thread. I was just interested in getting others' perspectives on our bad luck vs good luck so far.

that really had nothing to do with working on tip drills the guy didnt know he had the ball in his hand till he looked down and saw it there. when you are suprised that the ball is in your hands it is not 'by design'
