IMO-- These are the 3 things eating our lunch this season (in no particular order):

1. We have no threats in the passing game. We are essentially one dimensional. While there has been some continuity in the ground game-- teams simply do not fear us in the air and they play the run and sit back in man coverage and we CANNOT win on the outside.

2. Middling defense... Not enough talent acquired in the past few offseasons, and the bargain hunting philosophy has come home to roost. The defense REQUIRES the offense to own the ball and play with a lead-- and without that security-- they simply are unable to carry the day.

3. Incompetent and Arrogant Coaching Staff... They seem to believe that just lining up with a power running game is all they need to do to win in this league. The over-simplistic formula has run its course. This entire team has been exposed-- and the staff has ZERO answers. Unacceptable. If we miss the playoffs-- the whole staff needs to be held accountable.

I have not been this disillusioned as a fan in a long time. We are in for a long rebuild in my opinion. We have to make the next right decision-- and that is to clean house in terms of leadership. Need to really scour the NFL and college ranks for elite coaching talent and get this next hire right.

We have some intriguing young pieces to build around-- but the system and culture around the nucleus is absolutely limiting their chance at success.

Sorry for the rant friends... Been a fan since the early 80's and am pretty much having a joyless season this year. Even our wins have come within the context of the Zeke debacle and JJ's in-fighting with Goodell and poorly played and officiated football. If things don't change massively this offseason-- I may take a year off from even watching.

This is entertainment. If the product is not worth my time and interest-- why purchase and consume it?

Last night was the first time in a long time I was not getting excited we were about to start a game.
It was like I didn't really care.
Even if 2014 when we knew we were bad without decent QB play, waiting to see if the RBBC effect would work. Hoping the D would play decent. I still looked Ford to the games. Even to see if any players had potential, and waiting to see where our draft pick would be and how high.

even in 1989, I looked forward to the games, to see what direction we were going.

But now, actually the past 7 years or so, it has been the same thing. even the groundhogs laugh at us, as they are more predictable on groundhogs day. We been more like 8-8 hell day.

I guess now, I will just watch the games, and hope we can be competitive as we have not been. The thing is, can't even hope for a better draft pick, because that means hope we lose. Which I do not want to do. But if we do, jerry has his built in excuse to keep the coaching staff.

There is a chance we can still get a WC. not likely, but a chance, so will pull for that. T-Day game, Rivers may shred us, they have been putting up some points.

We need a burner at receiver. No doubt about that. They also need a TE that can run more than a 3 yard route.

Defensively, they need a real bad *** at MLB. A guy that can fill, and arrives at the ball with bad intentions. A space eater up front would probably help. Safety is an ongoing issue since, I don't know, Darren Woodson left the building.

Kind of the same thing every year. They go to the draft with not 4 or 5 holes, but 9 or 10. They have very little depth, they can't fill all the roster holes with the draft, and they are generally up against the cap despite not advancing past the divisional round in over 20 years.

Pretty much a neverending cycle of mediocrity

I think people are way too hard on the WR corps. They aren't great but IMO they are held back by a bad scheme.

I think they have real problems with the WR/TE corp:
  • Dez doesn't look like a WR1 anymore and clearly has lost most of his downfield explosiveness. He is on pace for a career low in yards per reception
  • Witten has a textbook case of a truly great NFL player who has been kept around too long. He is averaging just 9 yards per reception which would be both a career low for him AND will rank him in the bottom 10% of tight-ends. The superior blocking he showed during most of his career is long gone as well.
  • T-Will is just a guy. Not terrible by any means, but ideally playing on a team with a dominant WR1
  • Beasley is trending back to his career average of about 450 yards or so. His average is 7.5 yard per reception is one of the worst I've ever seen
Time to face facts, the WR/TE corp is slightly below average, nothing more AND all of them are tracking career lows in one category or another.

We are the 2nd youngest team in the league. We don't need to rebuild, we need to continue adding talent and use free agency to bring in quality starters not bottom of the barrel..... But the main thing we need is new coaching staff. This team has talent across the board and can be really good the problem is coaching. Yes it's that simple

Too many drops and bad routes this year. The production is just not there. We need to make some changes-- and that means either a massive salary cut for Dez or he's on the street. We need to acquire a legit #1 AND a legit #2 WR.

IMO-- Dez is now a #2 possession WR and Williams is a passable #3.

This!
On the FA note, exactly right, we need to bring in some real talent not garbage signings.
We should've resigned Leary, TJ Ward, Joe Haden....not Carroll, Price, and Thorton

I didn't mind not resigning Leary. Cooper has been very good, not Frederick or Martin good but very good.

I like Jones and Woods at safety but totally agree with the DT spot. The biggest one was LB, I think by not bringing in a top guy at LB and DT hurts more then anything. Carroll was terrible signing but I like these young corners especially Lewis. Brown needs to be 3rd or 4th corner and Scandrick needs to be replaced. Hopefully Awuzie can take 1 spot and I wouldn't mind getting a top corner coming up in the draft.

Price was playing well before the injury but as a rotation guy

The good news is that we can really help the roster in one off season. The front seven must have a guy the other team has to fear and account for, and we need to stretch the field on O with speed, something we lack now. And depth is a must where we can afford it.

Agree.....a Ro McClain type, a Rueben foster type is needed in Rod M scheme, as they have to take on OLineman as a requirment......

Just stop watching this **** show for the rest of the season. It’s liberating. It’s like the unanticipated feeling of relief I felt when I quit WoW

We have possession WR with no deep threat to scare teams, but other teams with less are able to compete. This has everything to do with scheme and coaching. How many times have we've read from opposing teams that they knew exactly what the Cowboys are doing?

The Cowboys gain $8.5 mil in cap space by releasing or trading Dez this offseason.

I vote for one of those... Even though I doubt any team would trade for him.

He's not worth $16.5 mil.

Winicki is seldom wrong. Dez has been an exciting player to watch. But, we need someone more efficient.

I haven't looked at free agent receivers or even looked at the draft yet. Do you have any idea what you think would be a great receiver to pick up in free agency and or the draft to replace Dez.....if we cut or traded him
