the vikings(per si thruth and rumors) have said they're most likely releasing williamson, napoleon harris, smoot, and DARREN SHARPER

sharper!! who should have been a cowboy a couple yrs ago. thats a player that can play a centerfield type, he actually makes a living by doing that.

I agree with you that he should already be a Dallas Cowboy.

Why we didnt make a move for him a while back is beyond me.

Wish we would've brought him in after Woody left. He can still cover pretty well, and always manages to find himself around the ball. He'd be 10x better than anything we're putting on the field.

you should maybe watch him play before you want.......he was actually being replaced in passing downs by the worst pass defense in football at the end of the year

What kind of money would we be looking at? Anybody know what his salary was with the Vikes?

Green Bay released him, Minnesota signed him to I think a 4-year deal, now suddenly he's going to be on the street again? Apparently some up there think his production is down, but it doesn't look that different from his last 2 years with the Pack. He's had as many as 9 ints in a season twice in his carrer, most recently 2005.

This has some interesting angles, but I don't know if all of them are good. He's early 30's so it's not a true long-term solution, but I could see a two-year deal, maybe with incentives?

I think Dallas still thought Darren Woodson was a part of those plans, hence the no-move for Sharper

I'd rather have Brandon Meriweather (Univ. of Miami), Reggie Nelson (Univ. of Fla.) or Aaron Rouse (Va. Tech). I am in the minority that believes Dallas should address this FS issue with a late 1st round pick instead of another teams retread (see: Marcus Coleman), another SS trying to be a FS (see: Keith Davis or Roy Williams) or a late round pick (see: Pat Watkins).

I now am of the opinion we need an Ed Reed back there along with Roy. That player in my humble opinion is Brandon Meriweather despite his potential "character" issues. He is a ballhawk in every sense of the word and reminds me a bit of Ed Reed, skillwise, when Reed was still in college.

I know that it is an unpopular thought especially since we need more players who can pressure the QB however, it may be the most practical. Since we have no idea what scheme we will run next season until Coach Parcells makes a decision or Mr. Jones makes it for him, Dallas is stuck financially with Bobby Carpenter, Ayodele, James and Ware. Plus you add in Greg Ellis and I am not sure how Dallas adds another pressure guy. If one is drafted and we stay 3-4what do we do with last seasons 1st rounder? If the answer is move him inside, Ayodele and James would be expensive bench riders because one of the two will have to sit. Then there is Ellis, say he is healthy then what? I would like to see Dallas draft a tweener in the 3rd (after getting a LT in the second round, I would prefer Tony Ugoh of Arkansas). That way we get a potential pressure guy for less money and throw him in the mix with Carp, Burnett, Ellis and Ware.

I say all that to say that the FS spot may give us the best value in the 1st round. Based on Mr. Jones' comments today I can cross out QB and WR from our 1st round list. I also think RB, DE, LB, C, TE and NT are on that list as well. CB may be depending on what is done with Henry. That leaves T, G and FS.

im not for sharper. im not srue how many of you h ave seen him play but i watched him on the packers... he cant tackle, hes lost a step and hes not a ball "hawk". youd be heading your head against a table with him just as much as you do with whoever is in davis or watkins. let watkins blossom, or atleast find a solid one that can last longer than 2-3 years tops.

slick, the reason I dont want to spend a 1st on another rookie safety, is because I'm tired of inexperienced players goofing up back there, w/ another rookie, and no vet, Dallas won't be able to play Roy close to the LOS out of fear, they keep saying they want to, but each year we go into the season w/ an inexperienced player at FS, and can't afford to, we need a vet, and Deon Grant is not that old, and is solid in both the pass and run, for one of the best pass Ds in the league

no more rookies at FS

I hear what you're saying but lets be honest, none of the inexperienced guys we have placed back there are top flight talents. A top flight talent can make the adjustment to starting in the league with minor bumps in the road. If a player is a baller he is a baller no matter what year he comes in the league. TNew started as a rookie at the second hardest position in football behind QB. Why? Because he is a baller. That is why Ed Reed and Asante Samuel excelled as rookies at the 3rd hardest position to play on defense, FS. We haven't had a true baller back there since Woody and I am done with retreads who we cloak their deficiencies with "he's got experience and is a savvy vet" or late round picks or undrafted guys that we cloak their deficiencies with "he's young, give him a year to grow".

I want a baller back there and Meriweather, Nelson and Rouse are just that. Plus they have the "pedigree" to go with it.

I dont want either of those guys anymore. That was the type of signing we should have made two or three years ago, but we didnt.

Now we have to develop that position.

To me this offseason is all about offensive lineman and finding another pass rusher in the draft.

IMHO, we can't be like the Commanders and fill all of our positions through free agency. Right now, we've got a young, developing Pat Watkins and an experienced Tony Parrish (who will hopefully be fully healthy next season). What I think we need more than a FS right now is a young CB to start developing. Henry might be starting to lose a step and Aaron Glenn certainly isn't getting any younger so we could definitely stand to pick up a young CB to develop now instead of waiting and expecting him to step in immediately as a rookie.

Agreed.....I didn't notice Watkins very much down the stretch....which is a good thing.

Corner is more of a priority and this is the perfect draft to be looking for one. Plenty of depth and talent in this draft class.

Yeah that is the route I hope we take, april instead of march.

I like jacques reeves though, I think he could play in the nickel if he had to.

I am not against drafting a corner though.

No more free agents, that is my offseason motto.

Just look to baltimore, san diego, philly and new england. All their teams are built in april. Now baltimore needed free agency to get a qb to put them over the top, but that is understandable.

No more free agents. Only case would be a proven 26-28 year old pass rusher. Not too many of those around though.

I think our secondary would be servicable if we hit the quarterback more.
