Ok...since the team is not playing up to potential....I want to diagnose what you guys think the problem is. I need your help.

Below are actual rationale/reasons for not living up to our potential that I have read in a serious post over the last 2 hours.

**Please vote on on your top 3 reasons we aren't playing up to potential:

1. Wade too carefree, doesn't yell.
2 Ellis older and slower.
3. Hamlin disappeared/not making plays
4. Henry slow/liability.
5. Romo is more tense/uptight - not having fun.
6. Romo is acting too much like Tom Brady.
7. Ware is 10 lbs over last years weight--not getting pressures.
8. Too many almost plays
9. Newman is out/hurt
10. Not playing press coverage.
11. Spencer not getting enough PT.
12. Kosier hurt.
13. Crayton sucks-need a #2.
14. Garret is out of synch - poor game planning
15. Barber changed his style - preserving himself
16. Need a heavier nose guard
17. Spears and Canty suck
18. No team speed on Defense
19. Romo changed his throwing motion in the offseason.
20. Flu going around on the team.
21. Pass rush not getting there.
22. Romo making too many mistakes.
23. Lack of leadership and intensity.
24. Lack of enthusiasm
25. Brian Stewart/D staff inadequate

1.) Lack of leadership, focus and intensity starting with the coaching staff
2.) Pass rush is still not getting there
3.) Romo making too many mistakes giving the other team a short field and just plain playing off....
4.) No WR worth a dang on the other side to take pressure off of TO

Well, that's 4 things......

Enthusiasm.

It seems like this team needs a spotlight to really shine bright.

Im not worried about the teams like the Giants. Im more worried about these teams that are lower-middle of the pack.

Thats just how the Cowboys are when they are great.

We'll play better because its on the road.

If it was at home I think you would see a lot of what you saw today.

I dont see how this team is such a good road team but they are pretty dominant away from home. You wouldn't think that with the type of mistakes we like to make.

1. Kosier. I don't know if it's Kosier, but the line isn't playing well at all. No push up the middle in the running game whatsoever.

2. Romo. Romo isn't playing at his elite level. This isn't really a "problem", but it's a reason why we're not looking as dominant as we are. The amount of 3, 4, or 5 play stalled drives we have on offense is alarming lately.

3. Newman. Not having a healthy Newman certainly has a significant impact. I believe it was on the TJ touchdown pass, before the snap I looked up there on the defensive right side and there was 32 and 31 by themselves. I immediately said, "Oh no two rookie cornerbacks." And of course, they scored.

Yeah, it's odd. The only team that comes to mind are the 88-90 49ers who were just killer on the road yet teams played them pretty tough at Candlestick.

1. Intensity/leadership.

2. Romo - he's not bad, but he's making a lot of mistakes and not as comfortable as last year.

3. Defense.

1. Wade too carefree, doesn't yell.
When things don't go our way, Wade seems to go into "ho-hum" mode, hangs his head and doesn't really say anything. No motivation to the players, no enthusiasm. You can see it on the players faces as well. He needs to do a better job showing intensity. It's not going to happen though.

2. Not playing press coverage.
We give up too many freebies on defense which I believe extends drives longer. I think zone should be used in moderation with our primary defense being press coverage.

3. Brian Stewart/D staff inadequate

See above. We are too passive on defense and just let teams eat up unnecessary yardage. When we play aggressive, good things happen.

4. Garret is out of synch - poor game planning
I don't think Jones is being used up to his full potential and Garrett isn't finding ways to take advantage of Owens and Witten getting all the attention. Either that, or Crayton and Austin just suck so bad that they can't get open at all.

I think team speed hurts Dallas quite bit. The only players that really close on the ball, in the sense of "wow, that's how a fast NFL player closes on the ball" are Newman, Pacman and Ware. But with Newman and Pacman, teams can just throw the other way and thus their closing speed doesn't really get notice. And with Ware being a pass rusher, his closng speed is more or less used on a scrambling QB. Teams can double him and go elsewhere with the ball.

The Pats over the years have had similar big, but slow defenses. However, they had impeccable play from their D-Line, particularly at DE. Dallas really doesn't get that. Ty Warren, Richard Seymour and Jarvis Green are all threats rushing the passer, Chris Canty and Marcus Spears are mostly just occupying space against the pass.

The Pats also tend to play more press coverage, although they do play a lot of zone. Teams are just slowing eating up the defense with the short pass. I don't think it's entirely the lack of press coverage because I've seen them look woeful against the short pass when playing press coverage. I sort of think that the corners really don't feel comfortable playing soft coverage and when they do play press now they don't feel comfortable doing that either.

I think it's just a bad combination. I don't think there's really bad players on defense, but their weaknesses are such that they provide for a bad combination. If Canty and Spears were solid at rushing the passer, I think the defense would be entirely better because it would help the CB's at the short passes and the lack of LB speed wouldn't be a problem. Or if the CB's were better against the short passes, Canty and Spears wouldn't be an issue. And the same could be said if we increased the LB speed, that would help out the other soft spots.

Folk hasn't has a touchback all year, which I am sure Bruce Read will use to try to get a pass on the piss poor kick coverage.

We actually played quite a bit of man coverage today.
Yes we did. And with the exception of one play, good things happened when we did so. I cannot understand the infatuation with zone coverage by our coaches.
