The benefit of a blowout?

I think most of us gave the Cowboys very little shot at beating New England. I don't believe in moral victories, so getting our butts whipped was the best case scenario and here's why. I think had the final outcome been more competitive (say losing within 2 possessions), I think Garrett & co. would stick with Weeden going forward, claiming a few tweaks here and a few tweaks there and we can win with Weeden. I don't think Garrett can look the players in the eyes and say this and expect them to buy it after Weeden's performance yesterday. Garrett can be as stubborn as he wants, but the embarrassment of losing by 4 possessions will essentially force changes in the lineup whether he wants to make them or not.

Hopefully the changes will extend to Collins and Michael seeing more playing time as well.

The one thing I fear is that with Dez returning soon, I hope and pray the coaches don't say let's see how Weeden performs with a true outside threat. That would be a huge mistake imo. It's true that the outside receivers haven't helped much, but Weeden's ineffectiveness goes much deeper than a lack of support of his receivers.

I wonder how much help Cassell could be at this point?

I think he has a higher football I.Q. compared to Weeden. I also think he'll take more chances down field. I think he helps enough for us not to be out of it by the time Romo comes back.

Definitely a minor bright spot in a blowout. Hopefully, it makes the coaches make some changes on the offensive side of the ball. Qb, rb, and maybe even ol.

Weeden was handed a sinking ship and told to keep it afloat until the Captain returns in 8 weeks. It's not his fault the ship is sinking, it started taking in water week 1 when Dez was sideline by his foot injury. Three loses in a row has not yet doomed this ship but we sorely need a course correction. The bye week has arrived at the perfect time... dry dock so that it's crew may take a break. In the coming weeks more of the holes will be patched with the return of missing pieces. If we are to make it, Weeden or Cassell will need help. The return of Gregory and Dez after the bye week may be just what we need to see some victories before the Captain returns. It remains to be seen if this ship can be righted in time but I'm aboard for the ride no matter what. If some think the ship would be better off with Cassell at the helm then let's see what he can do.

If it was close it would be a great sign against the best team in the league, getting slapped around like a red headed step child has people questioning Garrett and talk of locker room mutiny.

It's just painfully clear that while their hands were tied last season having to pick up Weeden, sticking with him this year was a monumentally bad decision and now everything about their abilities is being questioned.

Remember that 40 page thread about Garrett being brilliant, those were the champagne days. Now we are in the off brand grape drink days. Bad times.

Not much. The offense cannot function without Romo improvising. Conservatively, I believe 25 percent or more is due to him making plays outside of the primitive offensive structure.

How many of you believe Jason has the authority to pick his starting QB?

To me, the benefit of this game is they got their collective arses handed to them in a sack, but they can grow from their anger and forging ability to overcome that good of a team in the future.

I'm not saying Weeden doesn't have flaws or is evn our best option right now but no one seems to put ANY blame on this allegedly "great" o line. I don't care what NE was doing defensively, if this line was that "great" we still should have been able to run the ball more effectively and limit the pressure on Weeden.

Again, I'm not defending him but we have many more issues on offense and it can't all be blamed on Weeden and injuries.

Will be very surprised (and extremely disappointed) if Weeden is the starter for our next game.

Honestly, if he is, my level of excitement for the game would be lower than his jersey number.

indeed. yesterday's loss was a very ho-hum affair; I never felt that we had a chance with Weeden at the helm.

The play of the Oline's been criticized by this board and by experts for the past several weeks now. And yes, they are part of the problem. I think Weeden deserves the lion's share of the blame however because he has very little pocket presence, taking sacks that could have been avoided by stepping up into the pocket. He also does a poor job of anticipating the receivers routes. He needs for them to actually be open and by that time it's already too late because he's given the db an opportunity to close in on the target. He just seems to lack a feel for the game. You are correct to say it's not all on Weeden, but it's the logical change to make considering that he touches the ball on nearly every single offensive snap.
