I'm cool with resigning Spencer if he reaches third tier money.
This was a rebound year for him, and he stayed healthy. I would expect a nice pass rushing year from him in a rotation in 2015.

I think so too

We want sacks right? Yes I know he is really old (so are several other guys on our team) but Abraham is a sack strip fumble machine and had at least 9.5 sacks in all but one of his full seasons. For the right price, and with the right program in place, why not take a shot at him?

There was a time when Abraham was pursued by us when Parcells took over.

I believe he was with the the Jets and he ended up not coming to Dallas.

He might still have some good snaps left.

I think we draft a DT and DE in the draft and take guy like Abraham to work in the rotation and see if Marrinelli can get something at a reasonable deal.

Spencer is no lock to return.

We need more bodies.

Everyone worries about a bad contract down the road, but a huge hole on the field hurts a lot more. There is risk either way.

I would much rather have had a hole that we could fill these past few years than Carr and his contract. If we are going to build through the draft and through resigning guys that we know can work in our system, it makes far more sense to get some stop-gap guys, than to try these insane long-term contracts that might not work out but we are stuck with.

Spencer will sign elsewhere. He has too many teams interested for dallas to get him back cheap.

Right now I'm think it's either Spencer or Wootton...maybe even both if they don't plan on signing a DT

Worked for us last year, and I was hearing the same thing then too.

It did for awhile. Then when we played GB and a one legged Rogers we got exposed and lost because of it. I still get ticked off about that game, not so much by the non catch, fumble by DM, but the fact that we let Rogers off the hook. When are you ever going to be playing the MVP again on one leg???

The Lions couldn't bring him down week 17 either, and they were the ones that injured him. Do you want to try telling me how much their line sucked? Even with one leg Rodgers is still one elusive mofo

Build through the draft like Claiborne? There are just as many misses in the draft and they hurt just as bad, but no one is advocating sitting out the draft.

2014 Cowboys that started their career with the Cowboys: our entire starting offense (was originally going to make a list... but... really... it's just everyone including most of the backups), Lawerence, Crawford, Spencer, Lee, Hitchens, Carter, Wilcox, Church, Scandrick, and yes Mo.

2014 Cowboys that started off somewhere else: Mincey, McClain, Melton, Durant, Carr.

We turned that into a 12-4 team, and of 3 (or 4 depending on how you feel about Melton) of the 5 guys in the second list were small, short contracts to players that they thought might work out well. Look at most elite teams and you will see something like this (yes the Seahawks did pay a bit for Avril and Bennett, and the Pats got Revis to a 1 year contract, but that seems to generally be the exception rather than the rule with those teams). That is why I say build through the draft.

  • I live in the Bengal area, most Bengals fans were upset when Michael Johnson left for the Bucs... Perhaps with Rod as DC, Michael could become a solid DE for the star. His contract demands are going down the longer and should considered

A 6 sack year followed by an 11.5 sack year would make anyone take notice. Yea, he hasn't been that good these past 2 seasons, but I have heard he was still solid in run support and we have done more with less.

Give me Spencer and Odighizuwa in the draft and I think we will be ok.

Based on Spencer's 0 sacks last year and the fact that rookies don't put up sacks?

Sorry if I sound harsh but that's simply a fan hoping and praying with nothing based in reality.

We were okay on defense last year with basically this same team, why do you want to be overly pessimistic about everything?

Well, you know, except for not having Durant, Carter, Melton, probably Spencer and maybe McClain. And, oh yeah, we had Murray last year which helped keep the defense off the field.

But, yeah, other than that we were exactly the same.

Which of those guys did we sign off of free agency in the first few days of free agency again? Beyond that Melton barely played towards the end of the year, Spencer as he said wasn't that big of a factor, and Durant missed the entire second half of the season; also I still believe Murray is replaceable with our offensive line still being elite. So in reality we lost Carter and maybe McClain from the team we had at the end of the season last year.
