The best thing about being a Cowboys fan

Your team has won more Super Bowls than 29 other teams in the NFL.

You can say "5 Super Bowl rings" as a way to end disputes about whose NFL team is better. (And you can still talk smack to 49ers fans; the Cowboys are 5-2 against the Niners in the playoffs.) The Cowboys have won more Super Bowls than any of their division opponents.

The Cowboys have arguably the finest stadium in the entire NFL.

The Cowboys have one of the largest fanbases in the entire NFL. You can find Cowboys fans in probably almost every major city of the US. Many other fans, such as Jaguars and Lions fans, have to deal not only with a losing/mediocre team but also with being in the statistically tiny minority.

The Cowboys have some of the best uniforms in the league.

The Cowboys get a significant number of nationally televised games.

The Cowboys get a lot of attention - although this can be a good and bad thing. But at the least almost every NFL fan knows about the Cowboys and has an opinion of some sort about them. You'd be hard pressed to find NFL fans who really care about the Jaguars one way or another.

You can always reflect on the tremendous success of the Cowboys in the 1970s and 1990s. Many NFL fans, such as Seahawks, Chiefs, Cardinals fans, etc. have little such success in team history to reflect on.

If you asked Eagles fans if they would be willing to accept 16 years with only one playoff win in return for their team having five Super Bowl trophies, what do you think they'd say?

This would have been a neat post in say, 1999 or 2000.

But none of that stuff can ease the pain of the past 15 or so years.

The point of this post is a response to the "The Worst Thing about being a Cowboys Fan" thread.

If you're a senior in high school, you've never seen the Cowboys win a divisional round playoff game.

Nuff said.

I've never seen the Cowboys win a divisional playoff game. You've probably seen multiple Super Bowl wins.

And yet I'm as loyal a fan as any.

I agree. The long drought has forever tarnished the organization. Much of it was/is preventable. Mismanagement and ego is a bad combination.

loyalty and blindness are different things

any fan of the cowboys that has been a fan through the last 17 years is a "loyal" fan, some are blind others are not

I would think that most serious NFL fans feel bad about the last season for their team unless you are the Ravens. Or a team with a bright future like Seattle, Washington, or Indianapolis.

To be truly happy about your NFL team, your team has to be better than last year and better than everyone else. We could be somewhat happy if we had just one of these. We, cowboy fans, definitely weren't better than every one else last year. And it's still up in the air if we improved from last year's team.

I know that, .. but everything you mentioned is pointless because we have been .500 team for the past 15 or so years.

Uniforms, TV coverage, stadium, past success, .. all are empty because we are not winning post season games.

I know a boy, .. well, a young man now, that I coached in Little League and he is a Jr. this year.

Big Cowboys fan.

He has never seen any post season success.

I bow before him when I see him for still being a fan of mediocrity.

The best thing is that I have 5 SB champ DVDs to watch to forget about the current train wreck for a little while.

Would you consider there to be no difference, then, if the Cowboys played in a decrepit 10,000-seat stadium, wore glow-in-the-dark neon uniforms, had never won a Super Bowl, and still had only won one playoff game in the past 16 years?

After all, still not winning postseason games, so no difference right?

No difference today.

Those Super Bowls wins aren't doing us much good lately. But I'm glad we won them when we did, seeing how we can't advance in the playoffs any more.

You missed my point, .. if we played in a decrepit 10,000 seat stadium, and wore glow-in-the-dark neon uniforms, .. but were always a threat in the post-season, and had won a Super Bowl lately, .. I would be fine with that.

It is all about winning.

Is posting on an Internet message board going to change that?

You need to ask?

Posting on an internet message board won't change anything, .. it is a glorious waste of time.

If the meat is good enough, I could actually do without the gravy.

It's hard to be happy when it feels like we're just spinning our wheels and never getting over the hump.

We see teams like San Francisco and Seattle emerge while we are still busy spinning our wheels and watching our team play inconsistent football from week to week.

There is something wrong with the team. I'm over the 5 Superbowls.

You know what the best thing about being a Cowboy fan is? Listening to other fans cry about it when we're on top.

It's time to get back to the top of the mountain but I just don't think anyone out there has a clue how to do it.

The best thing for me living in Maryland is the national TV coverage. Even before the NFL Network and Thurs and Sun night games, I was always able to watch most games at home. Playing in the NFC East guarantees at least 6 games on TV in this market every year. Plus Thanksgiving is awesome for a Cowboy fan.

I think fans forgets about winning being the most important thing, but so does Jerry and some of the team. The new stadium, fan popularity, media coverage, etc doesn't mean squat if the team is losers. Let's face it, the Cowboys have been losers for much of the last 15 years. Priorities have gotten out of whack and it has resulted in a three ring circus. It is hard to defend the lack of a winning football team for this many years. These young fans have such low standards because they don't know what it feels like to be a fan of a team that is in the playoffs year after year. Tom Landry spoiled us older fans.

It will change no more than all these posts that blindly support the direction of a average/below average football team. Truth be known, these forums mean nothing at all to the Dallas Cowboys. It doesn't matter about the positive or negative. It is a fan thing, not a team thing.
