The best things about Felix Jones last night

Things I noticed that impressed me:

  • Displayed good footwork on his first run - a little stutter step in traffic allowed him to turn it upfield. I also liked how he bent the run against the flow of the secondary and finished the run when the safety wrapped him up.
  • On his second series (fourth carry) he showed an ability to run inside and move the pile
  • On the swing pass he broke for a big gain, he was already looking for the next defender before he was past the DB covering him. I think this is a good indicator that he is a very instinctual runner.
  • He looked excellent catching the ball - very natural with minimal need to gather himself after the catch.

It's early, and it's limited touches, but I already like what I see from Jones. So far, he's providing evidence that he's not the one dimensional speed guy you might suspect from watching highlights of his long runs at Arkansas.

he was good blocking as well-I thought that might be his problem.both choice and felix were good in blocking.

I heard somewhere that he resembles a young Marshall Faulk, and I tend to agree with that.....no wonder they gave him #28. Great he's a Cowboy.

Or Thurman Thomas.

I'll take either one. :D

On that swing pass to the flat, Julius gets stopped by the first tackler 80% of the time. With Felix, that first defender doesn't have a prayer. I love the way Felix slips out of tackles.

He showed that he can run between the tackles and outside in the flat. Don't overlook this fact. :starspin

we need to get this kid the ball in motion with some blocking on the move.
I can't remember when we last ran a screen play effectively. He could be deadly in that regard. I'm really hoping to see it used often, especially against the blitz.

I think Garrett will view Felix's play as reinforcement of his plans to use him in variety of ways in the running & passing games. What I was really looking for was how good Felix can block because it would really limit our use of him in the passing game if he can't protect Romo. So far, so good. Except for that dumb penalty by Colombo, our offensive starters were perfect.
