The ad is sponsored by a grocery chain in the UK and touches upon the unofficial Christmas truce between combatants in 1914. This was the first Christmas of WWI.

Some have complained the company behind the ad, Sainsbury's– a grocery chain in the UK, is taking advantage of history to build their brand. Others think they are glorifying war.

Personally I like the ad. And I think anything that exposes folks to history they may not have been aware of is a good thing.

I loved this ad. Thanks, Michael. You know, I think it is wonderful that they did this, too. So what if they get a little exposure for bringing something beautiful to light that happened in the midst of a very ugly war. But you know there are just those people that look for excuses to hate things and complain and protest, I have a tendency to ignore those people. They only make themselves look petty and stupid. John Lennon would have loved it, too. I watched another video on the story behind the ad and why they made it. It was really good, too.

Yeah, I enjoyed the "How we made this" video.

I don't understand the hate of it (the ad).

They're simply celebrating what may be the last large scale "civilized" action during a war.

It's a "movie-quality" commercial. I couldn't imagine the amount they spent on it.

Hard to believe someone would have issue with it. Personally, I enjoyed it.

Reminds me a little of the movie, A Midnight Clear.

I assumed Sainsbury was a more modern company and I was all set to view the ad in a negative light. But since they were established in 1869, carry on. They were there. They're not exploiting history as they are a part of that history.

Replace Sainsbury with GoDaddy or Samsung and I'd view it as pretty manipulative and tacky, regardless of the artistic quality.

Religion(govt id) makes war and then ends it? That's all I took from this lack of history. We killed each other for profit but glad we sang songs to each other?

Oh-Kay.

Thanks for the input BigStar.
