They got him for a 2nd rounder? How hard up were the Bucs for a draft choice?

Great trade for the Colts. He's familiar with the system, too, and should fit right in.

I am not worried about a DT that may help them against us, we need to prove we are better anyway. I am worried about their offense.

Anyway, I am glad they got him and not some NFC East team, because I do like the Colts as my 2nd favorite AFC to get to the SB. Bengals are first in AFC.

The Bucs just raped Polian. A 2nd rounder for Booger? He isn't even worth a first day pick, especially with that huge salary. The Colts are gambling for a superbowl. Unless the Colts win it all they have been burned. Booger is a mediocre player, who is lazy, injury prone, and was only good when playing next to Sapp in his prime. He's getting over 5 mil a year too.

I don't see how this helps out their run D, Tampa has always been easy to run against w/ Booger

sorry if repost

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 17, 2006) -- The Indianapolis Colts ' leaky run defense got some much-needed help when it acquired defensive tackle Anthony McFarland for a 2007 second-round draft pick in a rare midseason deal.

The Colts announced the deal about one hour after the Oct. 17 trading deadline. Tampa Bay officials were expected to hold a news conference later in the evening.

McFarland, a 6-foot, 300-pound defensive tackle, should help shore up the middle of the Colts' run defense that ranks near the bottom of the league.

It also should help offset the loss of former Pro Bowl defensive tackle Corey Simon, who will miss the rest of this season with a mysterious illness that team officials call unrelated to the arthroscopic knee surgery he had in mid-August.

McFarland is familiar with both the Colts' defense and coach Tony Dungy, whom he played under for three seasons. The Bucs took him with the 15th overall pick in the 1999 draft.

he is a younger over the hill version of Warren Sapp. Remember the Bucs let Sapp go what 3-4 years ago because this guy was better and entering his prime. The prime I could see him having the last 2 years is a lot of prime rib.

I guess the Colts weren't satisfied with just overpaying for one overrated, fat, lazy, underperforming DT in Corey Simon.

I must have missed the news. Daniel Snyder purchased the Colts?

Sorry, but a 2nd-round pick for a near 30-year old isn't what I'd call a "great" move. It might turn out to be good if he plays well...but great? I highly doubt that. As an 8-year veteran, his window's not exactly open all that large.

Corey Simon was a good move - this one - not so much.

The Bucs defense was always a great pass stopping machine. But the only way you COULD beat them was to run at them. Booger is not a run stuffer.

A 29 year old run-stopper, with experience in your defense, and direct experience with your head coach, at your position of biggest need, for an undefeated team, for a low-second round pick is not a great move? We had people on this board expecting to see us give up as much for Favre.

But I thought the Corey Dillon trade was a great move for the Patriots at the time, too.

Folks, I live in Tampa......Booger is NOT a great run stopper. Really, not even a good one. The Colts are definately going for the big on this year, as Dale mentioned he's not worth the salary he's getting paid. A 2nd rounder for an overpaid DT isn't a bad deal even if the Colts don't have to deal with the signing bonus.

Maybe Dungy can bring the best out in Booger, who knows.
