The Cowboys are $54M over the cap?

Harbaugh - Chargers, with their QB signed, will have 101 million for next year. Took the job with a horrendous cap situation, winning despite all the dead money and on their 4th and 5th OTs

McVay - Rams, everyone knows the cap hole they dug/are digging out of, 80 million next year.

Payton - Broncos, shedding all that crazy dead money for Wilson, No.1 seed in the AFC with a 2nd year QB, 40 million next year.

It's amazing what can be done with the right people.
I don't understand it either

Yes, OTC have calculated an expected Cap increase, but a lesser increase than Spotrac. OTC have added the Draft Pool and included the contracts to make up the full 51 roster. Indeed, Spotrac is only giving us just $65m (after restructuring $100m and not inc Draft Pool)......which would put us 10th in available CAP.....before any other team did any restructuring.

Agree we dont have a Cap problem, but quoting $100m is giving a somewhat misleading expectation.
Spotrac currently projects us at a $36m deficit in 2026.

Do I take it that you expect the Cowboys to restructure and push a hundred million to 2027 and beyond?

For those claiming that the cap doesn't matter and money can always be found, please tell our GM who stated last year that he couldn't sign Derek Henry because "do you people forget, there's a damn cap" or words to that effect.

They are cheap and incompetent in every regard.
Yeah but they brought back Zeke instead.

They must get some praise for that surely?

Yep, $36m, but it doesn't look as if it takes into account the Draft Pool money.
I think they have to, what I'm arguing against is the expectation that we'll be in for elite FA's which some of our fanbase seem to elude to when they see $100m being quoted.

Money will be tight. Jerry was selling his usual snake oil when he promised that the Green Bay picks and the “Micah Money” would result in 7-9 “good” or “great” players (his words).

It will be 2031 and we will hit on a random free agent and Jerry will say it was the result of his genius Micah trade

To me it is not about being cheap. All teams work with the same amount.
And if they are really that cheap, why is there always cap issues.
If cheap, they should be under the cap by the allowable margin every year.

So it is not being cheap. It is they do not know how to manage it well. That is the biggest issue.
Not at all, it's about player evaluation, and we suck at it.

It's funny as in order to right a wrong they commit another wrong to kneecap the team to the same mistake but for even longer! Hilarious.
So go ahead and ship out all assets, and start the rebuild. What a great idea.

It's not like we're going to win the SB next year anyway, but you can't have 1 player taking up 25% of the cap and still field a competitive team. It's unfortunate, but we're probably headed towards a big dead cap hit upon his departure.

Nope.

Do not resign Dak in 2024. Take the compensatory pick (3rd rounder I think).

In the knowledge that the team is moving on from Dak after his playoff performance against the Packers, sign either Mayfield or Darnold to a 2-3 year contract in March 2024 to either $60 million over 2 years or $100 million over 3 years (Darnold would have probably been half of that at the time).

Draft Jaxon Dart in the 2025 draft.

Resign Parsons if desired plus resign depth like Lawrence etc. Sign Clowney. Make the trade for Williams. Sign Javonte Williams and George Pickens on offense. Now be in a position to trade one of Lamb or Pickens if the front office wanted to load up on defense and rely on the running game if wanting Dart to take over at QB or keep both WRs if retaining Mayfield/Darnold.

That's basically what the Eagles have done. They do not get emotionally attached to any players. They move on from overvalued players to ensure the team consistently remains competitive.

Resigning Dak in September 2024 for $231 million over 4 years was another monumental mistake.

That’s before we roll over $40 million, restructure Lamb and Dak

They cut Steele, Wilson and Diggs and they are over $100 million with two first round picks
Can’t cute Wilson. He’s a FA but I’d sure cut Steele and Diggs

Cutting Steele is basically a wash, because he will need to replaced.
