The bye weeks in the NFL began in 1990. Here's how the Cowboys have fared.

1990...bye week 14...Won 41-10 vs. Phoenix Cardinals

1991...bye week 8...Lost 10-34 @ Detroit Lions

1992...bye week 4...Lost 7-31 @ Philadelphia Eagles

In 1993 there were 2 bye weeks

1993...bye week 4...Won 36-14 vs. Green Bay Packers
1993...bye week 8...Won 23-10 @ Philadelphia Eagles

1994...bye week 4...Won 34-7 @ Washington Commanders

1995...bye week 8...Won 28-13 @ Atlanta Falcons

1996...bye week 6...Won 17-3 vs. Arizona Cardinals

1997...bye week 4...Won 27-3 vs. Chicago Bears

1998...bye week 8...Won 34-0 @ Philadelphia Eagles

1999...bye week 3...Won 35-7 vs. Arizona Cardinals

2000...bye week 6...Lost 14-19 @ New York Giants

2001...bye week 6...Won 17-3 vs. Arizona Cardinals

2002...bye week 10...Lost 3-20 @ Indianapolis Colts

2003...bye week 3...Won 17-6 @ New York Jets

2004...bye week 4...Lost 10-26 vs. New York Giants

2005...bye week 9...Won 21-20 @ Philadelphia Eagles

2006...bye week 3...Won 45-14 @ Tennessee Titans

2007...bye week 8...??? @ Philadelphia Eagles

Okay, lets break this down a little bit. Our overall record coming off a bye week is 13-4. We are 6-1 at home coming off the bye week. We are 7-3 on the road coming off the bye week. This year's game coming off the bye week is on the road.

Our most common opponent coming off the bye week is the Philadelphia Eagles. This year's game will be the 5th time we have faced them coming off a bye week. All 5 times we have played them in Philadelphia. Right now it stands at 3-1 in favor of the Cowboys. The most memorable game was undoubtedly in 2005 when the win was secured on a late INT by Roy Williams and Bradie James sent Donovan McNabb to the IR.

Our 2nd most common opponent is the Cardinals with 4 matchups, the Giants are the only other multi-time opponent with 2 matchups. We have faced the Commanders, Titans, Jets, Packers, Lions, Falcons, and Colts once each.

We have scored 402 points and given up 240 points. This is an average of 23.6 points scored, and 14.1 points allowed.

Jimmy Johnson was 3-2 coming off a bye week.
Barry Switzer was 4-0 coming off a bye week.
Chan Gailey was 2-0 coming off a bye week.
Dave Campo was 1-2 coming off a bye week.
Bill Parcells was 3-1 coming off a bye week.

Week 4 and week 8 have each been our bye week 5 times. Week 8 is counting this week's game. Week 6 has been the bye 3 times, week 3 has been our bye week twice, and 1 week each for weeks 9, 10, & 14.

Next week I am going to attempt to figure out how we've fared against teams coming off their bye week since that is what the Giants will be doing when they face us.

Was looking at a Giants fan forum a few days ago and someone posted that they should have an advantage cause they coming off the bye week so they would be healthier, etc., then the Cowboys. A Giant fan then posted their wins and loses after the bye week and doom/gloom set in. Their record after the bye week is poor--no other way to discribe it.

Good stuff Hos, thanks. I was wondering about our record, especially against the Iggles. We did better than I thought. I didn't realize we played them that many times.
Looking forward to next week on your post of our opponents byes.

I had not considered checking the Giants after a bye week. Makes good sense to find out.

I will add that to the research.

Yeah I think the giants have struggled after the bye, particularly since coughlin has been there.

another number that is interesting is our record on sunday night games.

we are 14-14 with the two wins this year on sunday night so far. We were 2-8 going into this season on sunday night in our last 10 appearances, with both wins being last year. Now we are 4-8 in the last 12 obviously.

1999...week 9...Lost 19-27 vs. Colts

2000...week 8...Won 24-7 vs. Eagles

2001...week 12...Lost 13-20 @ Cowboys

2002...week 7...Lost 3-17 @ Eagles

2003...week 4...Lost 10-23 vs. Dolphins

2004...week 6...Lost 13-28 vs. Dolphins

2005...week 5...Lost 13-16 @ Cowboys

2006...week 4...Won 19-3 vs. Commanders

2007...week 9...??? vs. Cowboys

By my count that's 4-14, with 2 losses vs. the Cowboys. Next week will be the third meeting. Interesting that 3 of their 4 wins are against the Commanders.

They were 1-0 under Parcells. 0-2 under Ray Handley. 1-4 under Dan Reeves. 1-6 under Jim Fassell. 1-3 under Tom Coughlin.

These results are hard for me to fathom. They seem to fly in the face of logic.

When we faced them at the Meadowlands last year, they were without alot of key guys due to injury, but we were nonetheless lucky to escape with a narrow win.

This year, they were healthy going into the bye, so barring some freak accidents, they'll be heathy coming out. This game will be very, very tough, regardless of their overall bye record.
