I just read that after he cleared waivers, the Cowboys placed him on IR, retaining his rights.

Has anyone else heard this?

This means he will still get a check correct?

This team has been very loyal in the past but I don't see the purpose considering this isn't just bad luck for him, it is a reoccuring theme and he hasn't even took a carry with us yet and it will be very surprising if he ever does.

Cowboys placed RB Ryan Williams (knee) on injured reserve.
It turns out Williams was waived/injured, not released. Unsurprisingly, he went unclaimed on waivers. Recovering from a June "procedure," Williams just can't get his troublesome knee healthy. Williams will likely be released with an injury settlement if/when he gets healthy in 2015.Jul 28 - 5:44 PM

Dallas Cowboys
Williams signed with the Dallas Cowboys on May 19, 2014.[4]

Ryan Williams was cut on August 30th by the Dallas Cowboys. He cleared waivers and was signed to the team's practice squad the following day.

On June 28, 2015, Williams was waived/injured, and reverted to Dallas' injured reserve the next day.

I can't believe people don't see what is happening here......Let me explain.

Ryan Williams is the Cowboys "insurence" policy @ RB. I seriously doubt his knee injury is season ending.....nor was it ever.

He had a scope done to clean up some cartlidge that was causing some swelling. He was gonna be out all of training camp. So to free up a roster spot....they IR'ed

him to make it look like it was more serious than it really was.....So teams would shy away from him. So basically the Cowboys are stashing him for later in the

season. Yes....they will need to cut him again from the IR (and he will still need to clear waivers)....But the saga of Ryan Williams is not over. This is happening all

over the NFL. It's becoming a standard of practice. So when you see players get waived w/ the IR designation. Teams are stashing players for later in the season.

Well, at least, he MIGHT be available in a pinch at some point if his knee permits. Perhaps there's a glimmer of hope for him after all but apparently, not much more. Could be better and it could be worse . . . (sigh) Am I wrongly assuming he's still eligible this year or is that it for him in 2015? Not too sure how this works, since it's only the preseason right now . . . anyone know for sure?

I believe if you release a player injured he automatically reverts to IR if he is not claimed
The team can reach an injury settlement with him or I guess they could just leave him on IR

That happens when you waive someone injured. He got hurt in a minicamp, so you can't get rid of him. He's a cut from IR as soon as he can play. This is all procedural. He isn't playing here again.

IR means out for the year isn't it? It's not the designated to return tag.

That's what I'm wondering about. Maybe it's NOT like the PUP where he can return anytime if it's not the regular season yet but just not 100% sure. Kinda hard to keep up with these rules changes sometimes, although I haven't heard where the IR stipulations have changed . . .

Well, I just looked it up and apparently, he's out for the remainder of 2015 -- I had hopes that the rule had changed but no soap. Williams was likely a longshot to do much for us this year anyhow. Seems a shame but oh, well.

They could have reached an injury settlement with him rather than placing him on IR in the first place...
