yeah, but Montana might have never amounted to anything here... and we can so woulda coulda shoulda for every yr in the books for every team in the league

I just picked an all bust team...guys we drafted or way overdrafted that clearly stunk on the field (and in a few cases, off the field too)

David

in that case Victor Scott (2nd round 1984) deserves honorable mention as he started only a handfull of games before being busted for drugs.

Mike Sherrard (1st 1986) who'se career here never materialized due to leg injuries and had a decent career as a backup elsewhere.

Todd Christensen (2nd 1978) who we couldnt convince to move to TE (that would've saved the Doug Cosbie pick the next year) only to have a probowl career with the Raiduhs.

And last but not least Glenn Carano (2nd 1977) who never got passed the 3rd team here and also prevented us from taking Montana 2 years later.

I did consider Scott, however I ultimately decided the other 4 made more sense

maybe we could put him at nickel back on the all bust team

Mike Sherrard (1st 1986) who'se career here never materialized due to leg injuries and had a decent career as a backup elsewhere.

he didnt meet my criteria since he was hurt...he would have beena really good one though as his rookie yr was very good

Todd Christensen (2nd 1978) who we couldnt convince to move to TE (that would've saved the Doug Cosbie pick the next year) only to have a probowl career with the Raiduhs.

but he did turn into a good player, albeit somewhere else

And last but not least Glenn Carano (2nd 1977) who never got passed the 3rd team here and also prevented us from taking Montana 2 years later

Carano was never drafted to be anything but a backup however

My problem with that pick was that we kept Carano over Steve DeBerg, who was drafted in a later round. DeBerg could have been a great QB if he would have ever had the chance to play for a decent team. He was unseated by Joe Montana, John Elway, and Steve Young.

DeBerg was the best at running the play-fake since John Unitas IMO. I believe he would have been a better QB for us than Danny White but that's just speculation on my part (and I think White was a very good QB).

That list is not for the weak of heart.

I'm sure it would be even worse for other teams.

:skins: :eagles: :suxskins: :suxiggle:

(Can't bag on the Giants since they won it all  )

There must not be too many middle linebackers to choose from if Robert Jones is the pick. He did not become a pro-bowler or anything, but he was pretty decent. He was the starter during the regular season and playoffs on two of the Superbowl winners of the 90s (1992 & 1995). That 92 season was his rookie year. He lasted 10 years. Jimmy must of really liked him because he picked up Robert in 1998 to play for the Dolphins.

To answer your 1st question, no there were not alot of pickins at MLB

But the guy was drafted pretty high and never turned into what I'd consider a "good" player. And while you point out Jimmy did resign him in 98, that was only after 1) Jimmy benched him 1993 and 2) the Rams got rid of him after signing him to a (then) big free agent deal

He was an average player at best...had he not been a 1st rd pick, I might have not had him on here

Great list. I was thinking of doing something similar on who we passed up over the years.

Robert Jones was hardly a bust. Starting MLB in the Super Bowl XXX. Replaced Norton, Jr. well for at least 2 years.

He started in Super Bowl 27 too, but then got benched the next yr early in the season because he played so bad. The only reason he ever started another game for us is because Norton got away. And by the way, Norton had never played MLB before 1993, he was an OLB. They thought Jones was so bad at MLB they moved Norton inside. Norton even played alot of that yr hurt as I recall.

Jones wasnt a monumental bust or anything, and I didnt have many people to pick from for the position. But he was a 1st rd pick and never played like it. Look like Tarzan, play like Jane applies to him.

I like the list, but hate the kick in the gut feeling of it.

I'd also like to add Steve Pelleur just because.

That's nice, and I agree, but I didn't make the list.

He was a 5th rd pick though. And his numbers werent atrocious, they werent good thats for sure. In the 2 seasons he played the most in he actually had a YPA of 7.2, which is pretty good. And he was a good scrambling QB. Personally I am glad he played like he did, had he ben a little better we might not have drafted Aikman in 89...no Aikman= no dynasty

I still remember that awful pick he threw vs Pittsburgh to open the 88 season though...we had that game won and he threw it right to them

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't disagree that Q was a bigger bust. I just don't like Pelleur much at all. Q is by far the bigger bust given how far his star has fallen.

The INT you mention made me have to leave the house and "walk it off." It took a lot of walking.

Howard Richards or Robert Shaw anyone?, We spent first round draft choices on these guys, Shaw got hurt early and Richards was horrible, I believe he was either Rayfield Wright's or Pat Donovan's replacement.

Me too, but I'll add 1989 too even though I expected nothing.

Richards made my list...Shaw didnt because of injuries, I think he would have been pretty good otherwise

Steve Walsh over Quincy Carter

Walsh being the bigger bust for us.

?

I believe Dallas recouped a first for him eventually?
