As far as Manziel goes here's hoping that the end of the season was a wake up call for him. I don't want to see anyone fail out. Going into rehab, if its voluntary, is a sign that he's realized he has to change his life some.

Tom Ryle sure does love to pat himself on the back about Johnny Manziel.

Seldom right, amd when he is he sure does ram it down your throat

I thought Johnny would be fine in the NFL but was wrong. It surely is as much a mental game as physical & I thought he was going to be more mature. Wrong!

He really needs to grow up & act like a man.

That's just how funny things can go. Tons of people thought Johnny was the top of the crop. No one but a few even heard of Romo.

I don't wish him harm either, Hopefully he did this and not mom and dad. From the sounds of things the Browns are done with him.

Not necessarily. People enter rehab voluntarily sometimes attempting to manipulate greater negative impression, only to return to previous form shortly afterwards. A true indicator that someone wants to undergo a lifestyle change is actual results. Just like anyone else, Manziel will prove his desire for lifestyle change after years have passed following his admission to rehab.

He beat my Tide  but after I recovered from that I just watched him & thought he was fun to watch..I thought, honestly, he'd be a NFL player.

There is still time but that window is closing.

Going back and reading those threads I'm happy that I know enough to know that I don't know enough. I can't judge who will be a good QB, but I can accept that. I'm just glad I didn't take my lack of knowledge and broadcast it all over those threads. There were some people absolutely sure that Manziel would be a superstar by now and Romo was either washed up or a steaming pile of crap.

Meanwhile, it appears right now that I'm probably a better NFL QB than Manziel. Hell, at least I'd study tape and try to learn the game.

I visited Valley Ranch this year and McClay basically told us Jerry was very high on Manziel and the staff were worried he would take him.

I wonder if the individuals calling out internet posters for wanting Manziel are equally willing to call out Jerry Jones.

Jerry Jones on Manziel:

"I don't think anybody has to back into the fact that this guy is a winner," Jones said of Manziel. "He's a proven winner (against) high competition."

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...y-jones-damn-mad-about-missing-johnny-manziel

"Manziel is special," Jones said. "I know him personally. I know that he is going to be a success in the National Football League, and it was a hard decision. And it is one that I will probably have for the rest of my career think about."

Because we're not supposed to call posters out, I won't put the name. But has anyone seen the author of this quote around lately?

As a matter of fact he posted something yesterday. I watched the Pro Bowl Game. I saw Martin there. He was in the game. What am I missing here?

True, but I don't hold these things against a decision maker. The, well...he actually wanted to do this but didn't. The bottom line is the decision was right. No matter what led to it. Jimmy Johnson wasn't intending to draft Emmitt Smith, but at the end of the day he did.

The good news is this couldn't have worked out any better. Not only this particular decision but for the future. Martin couldn't be any more of a success and a positive impact to the team. Manziel couldn't have had a worse rookie year on and off the field. He looks like a bad player and a team destroyer. There's no reason for the GM not to keep listening to the same people who steered him away from Manziel and toward Martin. So this decision was great for the Cowboys and the ramifications of the decision may be even better for the team.

Kind of like the 3 first round picks along the OL. Jerry's never done that. Chances are if the results weren't significant he may never go there again, but Smith, Frederick and Martin have shown him how impactful those picks can be if you choose the right players. So not only do the Cowboys get those 3 blue chip players but now they have a GM who has a completely different mindset to using those first round picks in the future. Yes, you can win using premium picks on the trenches. You don't need "sexy". You're not going to turn off the fan base. Fans are smart enough to know what an offensive guard or center can do for a football team.

Truly great post and a real reason to have optimism beyond this magical season that we just enjoyed.

You can never measure a players want-to or if he gets with the right people/system/coach. A lot of five star, four star prospects out of high school don't progress while three, two star prospects do.

So we can really never say never.

Having said that, I thought Johnny had play-making ability too and thought he would succeed. But his attitude and recklessness did give me pause.

And I can't lie, I secretly wanted the Cowboys to take him. However, I've long been an advocate of building in the trenches so even though Martin wasn't a sexy pick, I understood it and thought it made since. If Romo is your starting quarterback for the next few years, you'd better protect him. The pick made all the sense in the world.

"You guys are such sheep, lets draft a defensive player and trust Jerry Jones. U kidding me? We are mediocre and will continue to be. Only thing that can save us is JFF."
"I know jerry isn't accountable for anything, why should we be? If we don't take JFF, we'll be 8-8 again or worse."
"You guys think Jerrah will draft good defensive players in this draft, Ya right. Look at our 09 draft, we dont know what the heck we are doing. AT least take JFF he can turn our crap franchise around."
"C'mon man, this dude is special. Never saw a player like him."
"WE need to make a splash, this guy will change our squad. We will rue the day if we dont draft this kid."

How happy was I when the first round went the way it did...I was VERY vocal in NOT wanting this child as a cowboy, and then to get a Notre Dame guy (I am a staunch ND fan), I almost cried...

thank God that Johnny DT's didn't come to Dallas

Thank goodness for Zack!

Hey Fredd, what did you think of the Irish's recruiting class? You guys snagged one of the best high school wideouts. That's about all I know.
