The Dan Bailey Thread **merged**

Nah. He’ll be Okay by next season.

You can’t automatically count on that. Kickers and their psyche are a funny thing. He’s not only missed field-goal’s the past few weeks but three extra points. Those missed extra points are alarming. He’s in a terrible funk right now and is going to have to think about it during the offseason. It’s not physical it’s in his head.

Our kicker is a prime example of why our coaches shouldn’t allow our guys to play injured...

He recovered from that injury or he wouldn’t have returned. There was no reason to rush him back the other kicker was doing fine. It’s nothing physical with Bailey it’s mental. Too many are using his injury as an excuse, that’s baloney he’s in a funk.

Best-case, Bailey recovers and is an average NFL kicker. The days of him making 90% of his FGs are over. He was on his way to becoming an all-time great but now he will have to fight just to be a run-of-the-mill NFL kicker

How do you know this?

And if you do, could you give me some stock tips to start the new year?

Like Romo in 2015, Jerry and JG thought they could rush Bailey back from injury to save the season with field goals..

There is no way to know that

When kickers go south they sometimes never recover. Bailey needs to be better next year, bottom line.

Yes he is but why? Nugent was good.

Idiot front office brought him back too early

absolutely.

i pulled my groin (no jokes) almost 4 weeks ago, and it’s still a little sore.

i don’t understand why we rushed a kicker back from a groin pull. it’s not like he was the difference in the playoffs chase.

He is NOT injured. He’s striking those kickoffs as strongly as ever in his career...through the end zone in the cold. His only issue is between his ears. He really needed to see that last one split the uprights in order to rest easy the next 6 months. Now he will have to be drilling them routinely all summer to forget this.

That last kick he actually hesitated and was so deliberate like he just wanted to guide it through with a short slap. That never works in golf...he needs to swing freely and let it go. We all believe he will recover and be fine, and I’d say that’s probably 95% likely, but no one expected it from the veteran Vanderjack either.

Maybe so or maybe he can’t follow thru his kick so smoothly now and that’s why he’s shanking it, especially in the cold.. This team has a long history of allowing players back too soon...

They didn’t allow him back too soon because we were still in the playoff race and we couldn’t run the risk of him reaggravating that injury. There was no reason to rush him back the other kicker was doing fine. Had the Cowboys had any doubts about him not being 100 percent healthy they would’ve never allowed him to kick off especially in cold weather. They would have used him only on FG attempts.

He’s clearly out of sync and in a funk. That happens to golfers sometimes when they come back from layoffs or injuries their swing mechanics are off. I haven’t heard a single person who covers the Cowboys blame Bailey struggles on him not being healthy. He’s missing FGs and extra points and it’s gotten into his head.
