its called quality over quantity

No one knows what that is anymore

If someone gave you a box of assorted donuts, would you feel like you had to eat every single one or are you cool with just eating one or two of your favorites?

More choices doesn't automatically equal less quality. Only if you're such a glutton that you feel like you have to treat nonsense with the same gravity as quality would more choices be a problem for you.

More choices actually gives you MORE of an opportunity to make up your own mind, you've got it backwards.

PFW could have transitioned into what PFT is now.

Maybe transition it into "Pro Football Daily".

You aren't going to be able to charge folks for the daily news stuff. You would need special columnists and unique content that subscriptions could be offered to.
In order to do what PFT did, they would need to link up to a major media company like NBC...or Fox..

I don't know that Florio would've been able to transition his blog full-time if he hadn't gained his partnership. He would've continue to be a sports blogger with a job.

When Joel Buschbaum passed they started going down hill. He was one of the best in the business.

Other than the unfortunate loss of jobs, I don't really care. It's 2013. You can't be in the printed word business can expect to still be around anymore. It's no different than the movie rental or music stores. They're all gone now.

Still plenty of movie rental places where I live. Not as many, but still plenty.

In the 80s I lived in Chico, CA deep in the heart of (hurl) 49er country. I was starved for information about the Cowboys. Every August or so I would buy numerous football mags and read up on the Cowboys' prospects. It was a tough time to be a Cowboy fan, especially surrounded by so many stinkin' 9er fans.

I'm sorry to see one of those magazines bite the dust. I do appreciate the Internet. It would have been way less lonely to be a Cowboys fan back then if I had had net access.

They're mostly gone around here unless there's some mom and pop places I don't know about.

I occasionally see grocery stores that have a movie rental section instead of using Red Box. I miss being able to go to a video store and talk to a real person about movies and get recommendations.

One of my favorite authors, Kurt Vonnegut, wrote all his novels on a typewriter because that's how he was used to doing it. Even after the PC revolution and after he had been given an Apple computer for free, he just couldn't get used to writing without hearing the sound of the keys hitting the paper and that bell ringing when the carriage returned. When an Apple rep came out to see how he was doing with his computer and if he would endorse it in an ad, his wife told him, "We plays chess with it, but he still writes all his books on the typewriter."

Sure we know what it is. I think most people though would rather have a little less "quality" for constant, non stop updates whenever they want it. Times change, hopefully for the more convenient. Most people aren't willing to wait a month to find out what happened in a game from last week anymore. Just like most people aren't willing to have to talk to an operator to place a phone call anymore.

I would never SETTLE for less quality just for non stop updates or whatever.

What good is non stop GARBAGE?

I guess if you want to lower your standards fine but not me

I'm not sure that the quallity really has lowered to begin with. If you think it has though, then stick with monthly publications. I couldn't care less.

This is the inevitable conclusion to the downward spiral that began with Joel Buchsbaum passing away.

He was the one draft expert that I had faith in when it came to analyzing college players. If he said a guy could play, he usually could... and if he said a guy "looked like Tarzan but played like Jane", you could go ahead and take him off your board.

Buchsbaum was just that good.

I barely paid PFW attention after he died. While he was there, it was my Bible.

I also used to follow PFT in its early days.

You are absolutely correct, WG. Today's business world thrives on:

Yup and Narwocki (sp?) was an extremely subpar replacement.

With or without Buchsbaum, this day was coming. I don't think that plays a part in it whatsoever. It's a dying brand of media.

if you haven't figured it out, everything has gradually gotten worse since the 1980s. In no way shape or form have we improved on any aspect of society in the last 33 years and it will only get worse.

I've subscribed to PFW's Draft Profiles for the last 15 years or so. They've put out some excellent publications. It's too bad they've gone the way of so many other renowned publications but that's the nature of the printed word nowadays with the internet producing a multitude of terminal effects on their fortunes. I had previously worked for 32 years for a daily metropolitan newspaper in Texas that suffered exactly the same fate. Unfortunately, it's simply a sign of the times.

yea, personally suprised they hung on as long as they did. I remember being younger and every March-August buying football magazines for either the draft or training camp.

then the other day I was in a grocery store, walked by the magazines, and actually wondered why anyone would buy the magazines now? by the time they are in stores, the information is already a bit dated.

Back in the day, I would always look forward to getting this "paper". I would scour over the weekly team reports. I miss those days.

On a similar note, with the advent of "instant info" age, it has almost ruined fantasy football for me. My mother, who knows nothing about football, could do reasonably well in just about any fantasy football league these days. Mags like Pro-football weekly always gave guys like me an advantage going into the fantasy football draft and during the season over guys that did not bother to do the research.
