I'm saying since then they only forced 6. Is that a falsehood?

And I can say they forced 4 in the last 2 games. Is that a falsehood?

Your analysis in this thread holds absolutely no water because you're cherry picking to suit your agenda.

glad to see the turnovers whether forced or gifted, but the most encouraging thing to me is the mindset of attacking the ball by stripping during a run, targeting the ball with shoulder or helmet on a hit, or swiping down on a tackle / sack and so many other ways.. i would like to see the DBs take some more chances sometimes in obvious pass situations and jump a route or two, but i am digging the change in mindset

I want us to improve. I feel like, when it's said and done, we will be improved. But I told myself after the Giants game to wait before getting excited and to see if we could do it consistently. Five games later and I'm still not sure.

Just answer me this. If we force 15 turnovers in the last 15 games (21 total when you include the Giants game), will you feel like we improved or will you feel like the Giants game was a fluke?

If you are going to not count the Giants game for us, then you should not count the Miami game for the Saints where they got 4 TOs.

Okay. I could care less about Rob Ryan's Saints. I just feel like the defense hasn't looked better than the defense from last year. If we are greatly improved in the turnover department, then maybe the switch to Kiffen and the 4-3 was worth it. But if the turnover improvement is only marginal, then maybe it wasn't worth it. My point is, it's hard to gauge whether the improvement is significant or marginal because of the Giants fiasco. When it's said and done, if we average 1 a game (the same as last year) from weeks 2-16 and we continue to let teams drive on us with ease, then we'll have to consider the fact that the change was a huge mistake. Hopefully we continue to force turnovers and our defense stops allowing easy yards. Hopefully we don't end up like last year's Saints. A team with an unbelievable offense that finishes 7-9 because their defense sucks.

I think we all have moved on from the Giants game and this whole TO debate has no weight. You really couldn't find anything else to complain about? A "TO" ratio? Lol

The point is the only thing this defense does better than last year is force TOs and it's not even that much better since the Giants game.
Hey guys, if you take away the Denver game, our defense is only allowing 20 point per game on average! That's pretty darn solid!

Sweet! That also puts us at 3-2 and alone atop the division! BAM! Go Cowboys!

How is it not significant? Do you think this defense is good? The ONLY thing you can argue we are improved in is forcing turnovers. My point is, even that isn't that much improved. We'd be 0-6 if not for Romo.

That being said, I still think this team is good. We're 3-3 and 2 of those losses came from the only remaining undefeated teams in the league. The only game I'm really unsatisfied with is the Chargers game. But I haven't been impressed with our defense in any game but the Rams game. Even in the Giants game I felt like we gave up way too many yards and points. We were close to losing before we forced our 6th turnover. We would've destroyed the Broncos if our defense was even serviceable.

It's Kiffin not Kiffen... For crying out loud

It's amazing the short-term memories fans have. Have you ever seen a full season before? Our defense is amazing after the Giants game. It's awful after the Chiefs game. We're gonna make the playoffs after the Rams game. We're gonna go 2-14 after the Chargers game. Everyone was destroying our defense last week. Now, all of a sudden, it's blasphemous to say our defense is a liability?

Man people are getting way too caught up on the whole removing a game from the stats. A lot of people talk about the defense being better because it's forcing more turnovers, and so far, overall, that's been true. However, it can't be denied that there is one game that is an outlier. What could be concerning, is the trend since that game. The Cowboys had given up 17 and 7 in weeks 2 and 3, and were trending nicely and everyone was getting excited. They followed that up with 2 horrible performances, and that 2 game trend made many write them off as terrible. If the turnover trend continue to be relatively low as it has been since the first game, then there will be cause for concern, it there are some more big turnover games, then that would indicate the Giants game is still indicative of what one could expect from the defense. Only time will tell.

Exactly. This is what I'm trying to say. The Cowboys are consistent at being inconsistent. They'll look great one week and terrible one week. This usually leads to these 8-8 Jekyll & Hyde seasons we always have. In the games we've looked bad, this defense has been so bad it's made me wish for last year's defense even with the injuries. Hopefully we can gain a little consistency on defense. We were excellent at forcing turnovers against the Giants and have been pretty good the past two weeks. But then we didn't do much the other 3 games. I just want to see us consistently force turnovers before I say the Giants game wasn't a fluke.

I'm more of a "we're giving up over 400 yards a game so this turnover thing is a small consoliation" kinda guy.

Stop trying exclude the Giants game. Those TOs count.

Exactly. It's the same argument that if Murray rushes 15 times for 30 yards, but on his 16th carry rushed for an 80 yarder he ends up with 110 yds. Fans then say if it wasn't for that 80 yarder!! It's still 110 yds.

Dumb argument.

umm the 5 turnovers generated in week 5 were against the 0-6 giants.

that team is averaging about 4 TO's a game as it is....let's look at the whole picture guys.

lets be honest, we're an offensive team. we have some great talent on the defensive side, but we're not quite where we need to be yet. I think not having Spencer, Ratliff, and Ware has a lot to do with some of the struggles we've witnessed. but you cant just wipe away stats that are relevant in order to make a point.
We always hear that you are what you are. we're a 500 team that has generated more turnovers than we did last year. numbers don't lie.

and for what its worth, RGIII is a very talented QB. I think what we were able to do to him last night is very encouraging.
