The difference between rehabbing and conditioning (will make the OL better)

You know, everyone talks about how guys come back at 100% the year after a knee injury. Well that's just not true. That's just something agents have over-promoted so that their players are not underpaid should they be free agents coming off a knee. But the reality is that it takes a player at least one full year of playing ball after the injury before that player is back at 100% (- at least from what I’ve observed). Last year, Flozell Adams and Mark Colombo were coming off of knee injuries and rehab. This year they’ll both be coming off of a healthy year of playing, and this in itself will make the OL much better.

When a player is coming off of a healthy year of playing, his confidence is back ad he is able to spend the latest offseason on conditioning rather than rehabbing. That last part is very critical because there is a HUGE difference between the two. The focus in rehabbing is strengthening the body to support the injured area, where the focus in conditioning is is strengthening the body to support playing the football position. All this is relevant for our OL because this offseason Flozell Adams and Mark Colombo will both be spending the offseason on conditioning, not rehabbing, so look for both to finally play at their projected 100% levels and playing MUCH better than either played a year ago.

Couldn't agree more. I made this same point in regards to Flozell in another thread where it was suggested L Davis would be replacing The Hotel.

L Davis was not brought in to replac Flozell Adams; he was brought in to replace Rivera, which is what will happen in 2007. I honestly believe that Adams will have his best year as a pro and be retained for several more years past 2008 as a result.

As it stands now, Kyle Kossier should watch out because he's now the weakest link on the OL, and he is the only OLineman among the front-5 who is strictly a Parcells aquisition. And even Parcells would criticise him at times for simply getting out-muscled by DTs, so I won't be shocked if the Cowboys use their first or second round pick in the draft to get Kossier's eventual replacement.

I think they will look at OL in this draft but I think it will come a bit later than that. We'll see.
