I believe Jalen would have made bis way to Safety. And even if he didn't his talent in th secondary would have made everyone's job easier.

As to heath.... I'm not as hard on the kid as some. But come on man. We are talking different level of prospects.
I would have liked Jalen at safety. If Dallas had the Jags first two picks I would have been in heaven. I just don't like that Jerry and Co would have moved him to CB.

It's called opportunity cost.

You can only dedicate so many resources to one facet of the game before the law of diminishing returns severely impact your net benefit.

Ok, we have a great OL, then the RB options would be...McFadden, which I am fine with, but on last year of his contract. And would you want to extend his contract past next year. Chances are, maybe he gets another 2 year deal, but they would still need to look for a replacement.
Morris, on a 2 year deal, I am fine with him too, but not as the every down RB, and in 2 years, they will be in the same situation, needing a young replacement.
Dunbar, no, not the answer.
So they draft Jackson, PS at best for now. I know I will get back lash for that comment from some, but I don't care either. I stand my posting ground until he shows he deserves a roster spot.

And no, they couldn't find a RB in later rounds either.
So where are the resources being used at RB...they have some cap friendly contracts there. And the money for Elliott or Ramsey would be the same, as the draft is slotted. So that cap resource thing doesn't fly either..

Exactly. You invested so many resources into an offensive line that makes running backs, and can therefore afford to spend less resources at the running back position. But, instead of doing that, this team used its best draft resource in decades on a running back.

We can only hope that the return on investment is worth it, but the returns will have to be huge to justify the overall investment.

And what HUGE investment in a defensive player was there to come in and help this team more? Ramsey, No way, he may have a good or even great career. But Zeke will get us more wins that what Ramsey would have...and this is about wins isn't it....And the money spent is the same for a 4th pick overall, so it is not a cap issue.

This reads like you telling yourself a lot of things you want to hear in order to justify the move.

That's one option, sure. But this team also could have leveraged Elliott in a trade down with another team, acquiring more draft picks and getting a pass rusher like Ogbah or Dodd (who they wanted) at the bottom of the first round in addition to the draft picks.

They then could have had Derrick Henry in round 2.

This team had a lot bigger needs than running back to fill, and now they're sitting here with more than they can possibly keep.

I liked what I saw from Lawrence no doubt But he will be the one getting doubled teamed this year instead of the Kraken.

Hopefully, Crawford will be back to form. If he can consistently get into the backfield, it will draw away some of those double-teams. Him playing with just one arm last year made it easier for teams to focus on the outside guys.

However, I agree that offenses will do a lot more chipping and doubling on Lawrence this year to slow him down since he's the primary pass-rushing threat. We'll see how he's able to handle it. Ideally, someone would step up on the other side to take advantage of one-on-one blocking and make teams have to pick their poison. But this DL isn't ideal, particularly because of the blunder that is Gregory. We just have to hope that either Irving can do it at LDE or Mayowa proves to be a find at RDE since Lawrence can play either side effectively.

I'm not counting on much from those players or Tapper (and especially not Russell after Saturday's performance), but I won't count them out.

Yes they could have, but it didn't happen that way. Too many times fans get butt hurt because things didn't fall their way. Then they blame Jerry for decades. Well, I will give them that one on Jerry. LOL.
I would have been fine with Henry in the 2nd, but only if they got a QB in the 1st, or a defensive player other than Ramsey. I am just not sold on Ramsey. That's my opinion, and I am sticking to it.

And as to having more than they can keep...well, that sounds like a good problem to have then doesn't it?

You seem fixated on Ramsey, I'm not. In a trade down, they likely get both Lynch and Ogbah / Dodd in round 1 and then Henry in round 3. If you insisted on the quarterback, I see no reason why you couldn't get him.

Not when you still don't have a pass rush it isn't. You end up cutting a running back while still hurting at pass rush. That's a bad problem, not a good one.

Why exactly couldn't they find a rb in later rounds? It happens every year. Including when we grabbed Murray. But let's say we couldn't do that. I'd much rather pay Lamar Miller 6M a year over 4 years then give Zeke that and more plus lose the 4th overall pick.

There is no more suppressed market in terms of dollars than the RB market.

Dallas had an elite Oline in the 90's, but when Emmitt Smith was out the team didn't look the same on offense. Not saying you can put those kind of expectations on Elliott, but a playmaker at runningback who breaks tackles makes everyone on the offense better, just like an elite Oline makes everyone better. You can disagree on the assessment as a superstar player, but Dallas had him as the best player in the draft. If they hit on that like they have with their other 1st round picks lately then this offense can be the best in the league.

Ok, tell yourself whatever you feel you need to.

Whatever, I had you on ignore for a reason, and decided to take you off as well, as others. Now I should put you back on it. and this board will be much better.

Great post, as this makes sense to most sensible posters...but we do have a lot of posters that just post non-sense.

Dallas had an elite Oline in the 90's, but when Emmitt Smith was out the team didn't look the same on offense.

Yeah, but let's face it, his backups weren't just mediocre, they were bad. This line helped a good running back in Murray have a record-setting year, and an over-the-hill disappointment in McFadden become the league's #4 leading rusher - after a several- game late start.

It's clear they can make good back's great.

Not saying you can put those kind of expectations on Elliott, but a playmaker at runningback who breaks tackles makes everyone on the offense better, just like an elite Oline makes everyone better.

So what exactly should be the expectations? That's part of my point. Given what this line has already shown they can do with good back's, what should we be expecting from a running back taken #4 overall? Even Emmitt Smith and the '90's teams had nothing close to this level of investment made in the running game.

You can disagree on the assessment as a superstar player, but Dallas had him as the best player in the draft. If they hit on that like they have with their other 1st round picks lately then this offense can be the best in the league.

It's not a knock on Elliott the player at all. It's about the return on such a huge investment and if the warranted expectations can possibly be met. If he and the running game aren't putting up HUGE numbers, the investment isn't worth it, especially given the needs elsewhere.

Do us both a favor and and remove that stick you apparently have crammed up there and try to have a respectful adult conversation before this takes an ugly turn, OK?

I'm trying to have a civil debate on this topic.

Name a successful RB after the 1st 2 rounds last year...all the RB's selected that fans wanted us to take didn't really do much. Doesn't mean they wouldn't have had success here, or even eventually with their current team. But it is just the way it falls.
Murray, had one great season with us, it's not like he was lighting the league on fire before then, nor last year either.
The titans traded for him, then what do they do, draft the 2nd best RB in the draft in Henry.
