The Eagles win over the Panthers is HUGE for Dallas

The fact of the matter is that we still have to play the Eagles at home and I think we're going to beat them handily. So it's to our benefit that they won this game because from Dallas' point of view, at this point in the season, it's good if the lesser conference teams (ala the Eagles) bring down oppsing teams that are better than them (ala the Panthers), because the Panthers are a bigger threat to Dallas' offseason positioning than the Eagles. So this outcome is HUGE for Dallas.

No, it's not huge. These teams are fighting for wildcard spots and Dallas is gunning for a bye week. Whether Carolina or Philadelphia makes the playoffs is of no consequence. After the win on Sunday, The Cowboys have now graduated to the point where we should be scoreboard watching on the Bears, Saints and Seahawks to see if we can move up from the fourth seed to the second or first.

I disagree, now it is an open field of crap, otherwise the Panthers who are talented enigmas would be a shoe in. I welcome Philly and San Fran to the playoff mix, easy pickens.

Look at hte bigger picture. If by some fluke chance we hit a slide and lose a few games then we will be in the wildcard picture also. When you're a team in the top playoff tier, then what you want from teams in the lower playoff tier is to equalize each other so that you're still in better relative position in case you slide a bit.

The Panthers are, despite what is said here, are a well coached team who can win against anyone if they avoid mistakes.

Philadelphia is flawed. San Francisco is laughable.

Pretty much what I've been suggesting to you.

don't underestimate JGar and the Eagles offense. It looks like their defense has gotten a lot worse though.

Now that's smart postseason thinking. The last thing you want is for teams like the Panthers to start getting hot in December. What you want from all of these lesser teams is for them to remain luke-warm and as you say be "easy pickens."

That's a longshot. The Giants are 6-6 with the Saints, Eagles and Carolina still on their schedule. The division is signed, sealed and delivered at this point.

I like this scenario next week: Dallas win, Eagles lose at Wash., Giants lose at Carolina. All possible(likely), and then the Cowboys are 1 game from winning the East for the first time since '98.

Well, if you're looking for a RAH-RAH thread you've come to the wrong one. This one is about playoff strategy and positioning, not silver-and-blue cool-aid. Sorry!

The problem is that they don't avoid mistakes. They haven't all year that is why they are 6-6. Their secondary is below average, they can't stop the run, and it's like GROUNDHOG DAY with Jake Dehlome...YOu know how the movie is going to end ........him throwing a sorry pick down the middle of the field. He has thrown 2 picks inside the 10 with less than a minute in the game when they need a FG to tie!!!!!Anyway, either the Gaints or Panthers will be done after this week as they play each other.

The win was fantastic. It opens the door for crap teams like St. Louis, San Fransisco and Minnesota.

The Ginats still have delusions of a postseason appearance and possibly a division title. But with the Panthers losing tonight, their game at home against the Ginats has now become much bigger and more desperate for a win. They'll be more fired up and focused now on the Ginats, and I don't see the Giants playing well in Carolina. So now Carolina can pssobly shove another fork into the Ginats' side - all the more reason why a Pantehr loss tonight is so HUGE for Dallas.

It may be repetitive, but I expect they can rebound.

If I am looking for an easy win in the first round of the playoffs, they are the last team I want to face.

We already beat the Panthers. If they would of won, we'd have a 1 game lead over them, PLUS the tie breaker.

If Philly had lost, they would of been buried and out of it. Plus, they beat us last game so they have that edge over us.

IMO, it's obvious it would of been better if the Panthers had won.

Again, JMO.

In the end though, none of it matters as long as we take care of our own business.

This game didn't have any significance to the Cowboys because Carolina isn't leading their division so therefore it's just another loss that keeps the Panthers scratching to find a way into the playoffs...
