The whole Romo drama played out horribly and though most are glad it is over but there is no getting around the fact that DAL did not make out well in the end......it was terribly awkward and it was hard to read but it is never easy transitioning from one star QB to another

We didn't get the pick I thought we would get, we still don't have a quality backup QB and the salary cap relief won't help sign any FAs this year

OTOH

We are great going forward with Dak, Zeke and the OL and we will have plenty of cap space next year and beyond without Romo....if Jaylon Smith and Tapper can contribute and MCollins and ABrown can improve a little the D has to be better...... this draft is all important and next year we will get 4 comp picks so let's keep picking the right guys

Dak to the Future 4...........Great Prescotts

If we hit big on this draft, then I think 2018 is the year. We still need some help in FA and we just don't have the cap space this year to get anyone. Next year, we will have a good deal more what with the cap savings from Romo being gone available at the start of FA. The draft is the big thing though. Get some good picks and hope the players we have continue to improve and we should be favorites for the Super Bowl.

Any unused cap space rolls over to the next year as well.

We do have the cap space this year ....we have 20m with Romo's retirement and another 20m easily available....40m in space is no joke

We just decided to skip Free Agency and build thru the draft

It has worked the last couple years but I would have liked to have added a stud SS, SDE or CB

I guess not having Romo as an opponent could be considered a win but I would still rather have him as a bak up ........ Romo was so good for so long it is hard to be happy about him being gone no matter what the return or lack there of

Romo might be the backup.

I think if Dak Prescott or Aaron Rodgers goes down, Romo reappears.

I thought (and think) Romo is worth a pick, as well. But I don't really think things ended all that poorly for us. We spread out the salary, have a guy on the roster to fill in for a game or two in a pinch, and Romo ends up a free agent who's unlikely to leave the booth for anything but a Cinderella season run if Dak would suffer a season-ending injury (knock on @Wood that he doesn't). I'd rather have the pick, but this is an ok consolation prize. Plus, it matters to me that HOU wasn't able to hold out and get Tony for free. That prospect was an unlikely possibility and would have left a nasty taste in my mouth.

As far as how long it dragged on, I have no issues with that at all. We're not even at the draft yet. I'm just happy we have Dak and the next several years likely set at the QB position and we miraculously transitioned over to Life after Romo. And I'm bummed we won't get to see Tony playing anymore because, as good as Dak is and as much fun as he is to watch, I still enjoy Tony's style of play. Maybe better than any other QB in the league this side of Brett Favre.

You keep that candle lit, Romo has thrown his last pass as an NFL player. 37 yr old QB's who hasn't played meaningful football in two years don't just drop everything and step back on the field.

It started with the silly speech. Never should have happened but this franchise loooooves the drama. If we played it cool, I guarantee you a trade would have been done now.

Yesterday was a weird day around here

It was pretty lite considering we lost a guy like Romo....I know Dak mitigates the loss but it wasn't a happy day for me

the pick would have been nice but having to play Romo in DEN may have been a really bad outcome

They can use the June 2nd cap space to resign Martin

They could re-sign Martin now. Minimum base salary for this year and a roster bonus on June 2nd to bring his salary figure for the year to the exact same place they would put it if they had the space right now and signed him.

As much fun as it would be to see Cowboys v. Whoever in a game that matters with Romo going up against Dak, I'm glad we probably won't get to see it. He was a great player for a long time here. Represented the team really well. It really is tough to see him go.

At the same time, you can sort of feel that it'll be good thing to have him off the roster and all the talk about the QB controversy and Romo's career dying down. We can get back to fixing all the problems we've got on defense, and this is Dak's team now, for good without any distractions.

Yep. We already have Fred and Smith locked up long term. Lock up Martin and it'll gives us 3 All Pro OLmen for a good part of Dak's career. But people have to get used to the other 2 OLmen spots being iffy for now on. Don't expect us to spend more 1st round picks on OLmen because there's no way we can commit any more big money to that unit, and we're not gonna draft OLmen early with no intention of giving them a second contract. We're gonna keep hoping we can find steals in the draft and free agency (maybe Cooper and Collins) and hope that being surrounded by 3 All Pros is enough to mask their deficiencies.

Just going into the season without a QB controversy and the drama that comes with it, is a HUGE win.

That scenario is likely to last about 10 minutes around this place. As soon as Dak screws the pooch and has a couple of bad games, this place
will go completely mad and crying for Romo. It's all in the nature of being a Cowboys fan.
