Since it seems the topic of the day, I figured why not, wrap up the rumor once and for all.

Facts:

Engel is a sensationalist, it's what he does, he always spins bits and pieces into something it's not. Every trade rumor we have heard the last couple of years starts with Engel, including us trading one of our ILBs this year.

James has looked improved, he's still had some rough spots, but he isn't getting burnt constantly with us going base D most of the time.

For a guy who can't rush the passer, according to the coach, he's been rushing the passer from ILB and DE... a lot. And one of those blitzes caused a defensive TD.

Now, today it comes out that Wade is concerned about Ellis being ready for week 1, so what does this coach who thinks Bobby sucks at rushing do? He starts giving Carpenter snaps at OLB.

So what can we gather from all this?

Mac Engel would have us believe Bradie is a God, Bobby is a bust that the coach doesn't like, who is about to be traded.

Well a more logical way to piece this together would be:

James not getting beat in base D, means we can rotate James and Carpenter at nickel some of the time. This allows Carpenter to also see action in a platoon with Spencer at OLB and nickel DE until/if Ellis can return.

i didnt realize that Engel was the one saying we were going to trade won of our LBers for a corner.

Now his specious reporting makes a bit more sense.

A+ for effort, BZ, but I'm not sure we can stem the tide.

Good job.

Those Engels...Mr. and Mrs. Dallas media. No wonder I can't stand most of the Dallas media.

The DMN overall isnt that bad about making crap up but the Engels and Galloway are just a poor excuse for journalism. Its sad because Hill isnt that bad.

DMN is simply more responsible in there reporting and the fact that no other outlet is giving this story any love should be telling.

I haven't always agreed with you in the past BZ(here or the forum) but you hit the nail on the head for sure!! He's a little more subtle than his wife, but they both love to spin and sensationalize IMHO.

I think that there is a difference between pass rushing not being his strength and him being a poor pass rusher. A big difference.

I don't think anyone thought of him coming in as a pass rushing LB in the mold of Merriman or Ware. He wasn't that kind of player. He always struck me as a strong side, point of attack, heady player with build. I have never expected him to be a stat guy, just a real solid LBer. I am not down on him.

Too much on this 'pass rushing' nonsense. No one here thought he was a pass rushing specialist.

Exactly.

...and on top of that, he has somehow managed to land himself in a position to play two roles that primarily rush the passer. Wierd. I love how a player's stock can drop so quickly even while he's playing well...
