Here we are, it’s wild card weekend and the Dallas Cowboys did not earn the right to continue to fight. For the fourth time in five years the Cowboys will be sitting at home watching the playoffs. Although this season was much different than the previous five. In 2010 the Cowboys season was all but over with even before Tony Romo went down with a fractured clavicle against the Giants on Monday night football. After a 1-7 start the Cowboys fired Wade Phillips and in came “Red ball” Jason Garrett.

Many things changed around valley ranch when the announcement was made that Garrett was taking over. Suits were now worn to and from away games. Multiple sayings were plastered around the Cowboys walls such as “Fight” and “Be your best regardless of the circumstances”. Those are just a few changes as the entire culture was being rebuilt. The changes mattered to the entire Cowboys locker room and it was evident. The 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons truly showed flashes of how good the Cowboys could be. Even with a historically terrible defense statistically the Cowboys would fight for a spot in the playoffs during each week 17 of all three seasons. Although the Cowboys lost all three season finales they fought and fought hard for Coach Garrett.

Finally, the Cowboys broke through in 2014. With expectations extremely low and many writers claiming the Cowboys would be the worst team in NFL history, they fought. After an embarrassing opening day performance against the 49ers the Cowboys bounced back and shocked the world. Going 8-0 on the road and 12-4 while losing Romo for a game and a half to a broken transverse process. The Cowboys would win their first playoff game since 2009 and were a catch away from being in the NFC championship game...

Perhaps the jeering squad can explain why the same losing team was tied or ahead when the 4th quarter came around, in eight of those losses.

Cry in my beer...cry in my beer.

Garrett is/was going nowhere. And he shouldn’t be going anywhere. He deserves the chance to show 2015 was a bad year, not the start of a downward trend.

Smith went 8-24 in two seasons with the Buccaneers and one of those wins came this season against the Cowboys. Having picked Jameis Winston No. 1 overall Smith deserved more than one season with the quarterback.

From the outside, it was a panic move by Tampa Bay...

So what does this have to do with Lewis and Garrett?

Lewis had three 8-8 seasons in his first four years, like Garrett. He went 11-5 in 2005 and made the playoffs. In 2007, the Bengals finished 7-9.

Instead of moving away from Lewis, owner Mike Brown stood by him that year and even through a 4-11-1 record in 2008. He stood by him in 2010 with a 4-12 record.

Lewis is still looking for his first playoff win (0-7) but he has had the Bengals in the playoffs five straight seasons. Even with how the Bengals lost to the Steelers, Brown is not planning on firing Lewis, according to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter...

Now, when the season ended for our Cowboys, I too was angered and disappointed in the end result. I put an asterick, *, upon the up coming season. But I learned a long time ago, and early on in the Army, that one had to move beyond disappointment, but learn from it. That means, that I had to accept a similar corrective action and direction for my Cowboys also.

I can always come back to insult and demeaning comment later, but not for now. I'm first an adult, and secondly, a friend of the sport. Things still have to improve, despite how deep a fan wishes to dig an encompassing dungeon.

An advantage that the Cowboys have now, that the Bengals didn't, is that Jason Garrett established a system of integrity and strong character. If a player doesn't adjust, both in the locker room and on the field...he's gone.

Cincinnati still had some of it's previous 'thug' attitudes and it cost them progressing in the playoffs, but that is more of an end result observation.

I'm excited about potential changes about to occur, both in veterans and also via the draft.

There is plenty of room for play via the cap, that could incorporate both youthful and level of play injections into this roster.

But if Jason, his coaches strengths, and a very sound Scouting Department can carry on with the last two seasons of change, I'm not going to waiver in the current support of Jason Garrett. Period.

I won't even go beyond quality and depth being added to a progressing and young team, before I even consider topics of Lombardi's or if Pittsburgh is now ahead of Dallas in Playoff Wins or not,

I'm a Cowboy's fan, proud of it, and won't share a disgust or resentment due to having to deal in the real world. That for me, goes to Jason and yes, Jerry also.

22 of 24 general starters being under contract at present, means that changes will actually be made on improvements on the field, and not contract values being protected. There is plenty of cap room, to both be prudent and also long termed in practice. That means an even stronger team will be developing, than what Jason had to work with over the previous five years. That is a great building block, too.

We will soon enough know the specifics in team directions, but they still have to be given the chance to play out.

Yes, build up sentiments and opinions, that is what sports is all about. But don't just trash what is there, for personal vindications and emotional releases. That's what work environments are all about...this involves a sportsmanship, that revolves on integrity and personal values. Those are still great building blocks and strengths for the social side of life.

Leave some room for sport, in discussions about the NFL. We will all be the better for it.

I'm looking forward to the College Bowl coming up, that Dallas will be handling the practice and coaching for. That will give the staff a special closeness to the players involved in this 3rd straight draft. I can't wait for the Free Agency to point directions for the draft. And there aren't a ton of starters needed, just improvements.

I say, give Jason his chance...and you go, Jason! GO COWBOYS!

Does this really look better to anyone?

...The Dolphins hired their seventh coach in 10 years, if you count interim coaches, hoping Adam Gase can do what Dan Campbell, Joe Philbin, Todd Bowles, Tony Sparano, Cam Cameron and Nick Saban couldn’t.

The San Francisco 49ers are looking for their third coach in three years.

The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants are in the same coaching search as the Buccaneers. The Tennessee Titans might have one if they don’t stick with Mike Mularkey, who took over as the interim coach last season. The Detroit Lions could be looking for a replacement for Jim Caldwell if their new general manager, Bob Quinn, wants his guy.

Oh, and the Cleveland Browns are starting over again because that's what they do almost every year.

Campo made the players punch a time clock.

Leadership is not a gadget nor a suit or a saying.

Jimmy had a saying.

"The asthma filed is over there. He also told Charles Haley during the Denver game in 1992 that he would flush Haley's career if he didn't get off his arse and play harder the second half in the Denver game.

This is a game of intimidation, and players need to feel like their jobs are on the line to get the best out of them.

Coach Clap On Clap Off couldn't intimidate a group of girl scouts to stay away from an ice cream truck.

These fans are as bad as Jerry. They'd rather be 40-40 with a coach they think is super nice then actually have a winning team with a coach that has the players a little worried about losing their job.

i know of no office environment around that has those motivational pieces all over the place that has ever done a damn bit of good. it's great for show. it gives you a warm fuzzy. once or twice. then it's just annoying and to a degree, condescending. if any changes were going to be made by garrett he has made them. he has his RKG that didn't work and he's taken his chances on the wild side and that failed even moreso. the common denominator here?

garrett.

if you set out to build a plane and it never flies when do you suddenly realize you're just not able to build that damn plane? crash the first year? hell no! that's the fun year! crash the 2nd year? nah. gotta survive and move on. crash the 3rd year? ok, ****** why are these tweaks not working? this is getting frustrating as hell, now i'm even bombarded by the neighbors kids with paper airplanes that fly just fine. OK THIS WILL BE MY HOLY HELL WE'RE GOIN DOWN THE RUNWAY!!! WE'RE OFF THE GROUND WE'RE GONNA

incomplete pass.

while not a crash per se, it certainly wasn't full flight but it did make us think that THIS TIME we got it right.

then the wheels came of. along with the wings. the instrument panel went MIA. someone hurt the holy hell out of our pilot. twice. our backup pilots are getting lessons from the neighbors kids and crashing with merciless glee. hell we have some that pick up the wreckage and throw it to the ground again just to be sure.

ok, enough of that analogy but when? when do you honestly say "good lord dude try running the backhoe for awhile" and make a change? while i can understand, if i force myself hard enough, the need to keep garrett for one more ye...

no i don't to be honest but not my call and whining about it will just get me moved to another zone and my new years resolution says that will only happen 1,438 times this year and i don't want THIS to be one of 'em.

there is no fight in the cowboys. unless who can get off the field first has suddenly become challenging. what is most frustrating is we do have a core of players i'd love to see grow but we more seem a mix of pieces than a team. romo not only is one hell of a qb but he also seems to be the glue to keep things going and while admirable and expected, it's also expected at higher levels and it's just simply not there.

there is no fight in my cowboys these days except for a chosen few who never quit. (collins comes to mind) but what we have is far from a team and without someone to make them one, it will never happen. if what we had today could make this a team, it would have by now.

yet, here we are. crash and burning, not a pretty sight.

and certainly no fight.

When dealing with a team, I seriously doubt that a clap on/off view would last very long with real live NFL players. His teams have always fought, whether ahead or behind. That comes with motivation...even if it isn't bite a head off and pee down the nub.

Add in a quality linebacker, cornerback, and defensive tackle and see if these Cowboys don't make through even a fourth quarter.

I'm sorry, this fan isn;t sitting around crying in his beer, when I can still see real progress and strengths in the making.

1. a franchise quality quarterback - Tony Romo
2. a top 5 wide receiver - Dez Bryant
3. a quality tight end - Dez Bryant
4. a quality offensive line, with three Pro Bowlers and who project out for 8 years from now, except for right tackle
5. a returning running back, despite not starting 6 games, was in the top 5 rushers for the NFC
6. a returning Sean Lee in the linebacker group
7. a secondary having Orlando Scandrick and Byron Jones
8. a defensive line having Lawrence and Douglas at defensive ends

There are 22 of 24 signed starters from the previous season.

Lots of cap room to not ask back McClain, Hardy, or even Claiborne or Carr. For their return, it will have to be a positive Cowboy status. There is enough cap room to do as what is now good for the team. That one was over five years in the making.

There have also been coaches that succeeded without insulting lower status players or made a threat as the motivator for success. Standard is the trait needed, and that surely isn't lost upon Jason Garrett, no matter how many unsound routes one wishes to take descriptions.

And to the high road Irish inclined, there is more to success than what can be got away with. Good 'ol Jimmy had a high run of about four years in Miami, and four years in Dallas. Then, something wasn't clicking...

what difference does this make? i've never seen a playoff bracket that said "for the ones that got close and like the food network we will have a mystery last chance playoff team for those who screwed themselves the most this year" category. mostly cause it would suck to have to get that at the bottom of even big screen tv's but also cause it just doesn't exist.

not out to rail on you by any means, but can you explain to me why i should feel good about losing every one of those "damn that was close!" games in a year save a select 1 to keep that hope alive?
