Before Gallup even touched the ball..

1. Dak called an audible after reading the defense.

2..Dak threw a pass over an elite outstretched athlete into a tight space. If Dak leads Gallup the bailing DB has a better play on ball and Gallup...

Dak threw Gallup Open!!! If anything it was Dak 70% and Gallup an amazing 30% credit split...
Exactly how many ppl here always cried dak doesn't throw ppl open. He 100% threw gallup open on that play. And allowed him to get that awesome run after the catch

One player was off? Collins blocked for the run. Zeke stood still. Two receivers ran the same route to the same spot.

This play was an example of what leads to the inconsistency. It’s inexcusable and against a better team could’ve been the difference between winning and losing.

Call it cherry picking if you’d like. It was broken down so some of us commented on it. You’ll likely have to just deal with that.
Zeke froze because he saw that the player was going to be unblocked. Notice that he took a step toward the unblocked player before realizing he had no chance to get over, so he turned around to give Dak a place to dump the ball. The rest of the team clearly knew what was happening. Again, Dak knew exactly where to look for the receivers, which was why he was able to make the throw despite an unblocked man bearing down on him. That clearly shows the play call was understood by most of the players on the field.

Use a little common sense .. how could the same play call have been understood by most of the team, but understood differently by someone else? How could 2 players have heard different plays? Do you think they have exactly the same terminology for two different plays, so the players are guessing which one the QB means when he uses that terminology? Of course that's not the case. Collins just made a mistake - his mistake.

Is it also possible they were letting the DL go free, to set up a screen to Zeke as an outlet?

Doesn't look like it because the guards would have been releasing upfield in front of him. Martin looked like he was expecting to pass block but Collins wiped out the man in front of him with a run block, leaving Martin just sort of standing there with no way to get out on the linebacker in time. Elliott was kind of frozen, too, but Collins' mistake. It looks like he was an outlet on the play but was torn between being that and trying to get that linebacker. Fortunately, Elliott staying in position to be an outlet caused the linebacker to hesitate.

I see now the post about Garrett saying it was supposed to be a running play that became a pass because Dallas thought the defense was offsides. What all of the players did makes more sense now.

Of course, for the screen to work the O-Linemen have to first make it appear they are pass blocking. If they released immediately the D-Linemen wouldn't bite on the deception, plus they would run the risk of having an ineligible receiver downfield before the throw is made.

Great throw by Dak.

Still a great effort by Gallup though flying into the endzone!

They never released, though.

Collins goofed
Zeke goofed
Either Amari or Gallup goofed

how does this happen 8 weeks into the season?
easy, they modify a play but keep its call the same. When I was in HS in the 90's my HS ran the FSU offense and we tweaked plays week to week but kept the play call the same. so if a play call was one thing for 4 weeks it was not uncommon for guys to screw up a call here and there when something was tweaked but the call was the same.

Garett just explained the call in the huddle for that play was RUN.. when the NT jumped in the neutral zone , they thought it was free play called a quick fire drill audible and Dak and Gallup just happen to make broken play work..

this wasn't a confused offense that didnt know the play.. it was a basically a last second change and yell out to WRs to go hot..they made the best of it..

I wasn't sure. People complain a lot. Like the TD Jarwin ran in. Great catch by him and run in, but all people focus on is that the pass was low but ignore Prescott extended the play, under pressure and threw on the run. Just happy we scored.

Even more Dak had the presence and field awareness to direct/motion to Jarwin who's back was facing downfield, to continue to push forward and lead him up field before the throw. Very subtle move but aided Jarwin getting downfield as opposed to stopping/squaring his route.

Good point.

It was great it worked out for us. That DB had no business playing so short when he has two guys bottled up near the sideline and then releases them completely. He has no one to worry about up front

I don't think Zeke goofed. Collins definitely appears to have had the play wrong. I'm not sure why we have Cooper and Gallup running together, if that was a design or just a foul-up.

If those routes were called up it was definitely not set up for a quick pass, but to allow for a mid or deep throw depending on the coverage.

If it was man coverage that ball had no chance towards Gallup or cooper.
