The genius of Howie Roseman

MEANWHILE they are getting to the Superbowl and where are we?
Understood. A tip of the hat to them, but they are run similar to other teams. It’s the Cowboys that are handcuffed by a unique front office hierarchy. The “Roseman is a genius” mantra has reached the absurd level.

kind of moot isn't it? They just pushing the cap hit down the road, correct?
Yup...all teams have the same cap and are expected to spend it....as long as we don't hire the GM away from the Mavericks!

Hurts said he told his agent to spread the money as best they could so they team could still add talent. That’s the same reason Mahomes signed a 10 year deal… he could have pushed for short contracts to to reset the market every few years.

Ultimately, it takes 2 to tango. If Dak’s agent said “I want maximum amount of money up front as possible and a short deal or we’re going somewhere else”, Jerry has to say yes if he wants to keep the player. And that’s not me Blaming Dak; we know Todd France’s motives from the previous 2021 negotiation

In order to justify the deal they gave Prescott the Jones boys have to go all in for real. They need to go all out future cap be damned.

Create cap space by restructuring. Surround this QB with all the talent in the world in order to win in his window. Re-sign Micah. Trade for Myles Garrett. Sign Tee Higgins in free agency. Use your 2nd round pick on a DT and your 3rd on a young RB. Use free agency to stock up on LBs.

Go all out or all in. Roseman is doing that in the window they have with Hurts. The Rams did it with Stafford's window. It's the only way they can justify $60M AAV and highest paid player in League history.

Instead, they pay that contract and decide that should be enough. Don't stack the team, he is paid $60M AAV, that will carry the team.

Stephen Jones should be sitting with Howie right now with pen and pad (lol)

Hurts cap hit for this season has already bee prorated into void years. Daks new contract hasn’t been restructured and prorated into void years yet.
Is there any doubt he’s going to be restructured into void seasons! Other than Philly doing it at the onset of the contract and Stephen preferring to do it afterwards and based on what they’re going to need to resign who they want to keep there’s not much difference other than Dak being in a 3rd contract and they’re also paying on restructures from his 2nd contract.
Unless Hurts agent is a moron you can bet he’s going to be asking for a new contract very shortly!

That one year of cap trouble they’re going to have is going to just be so awful.
That’s slightly misleading. The only reason the cap hit is so big is because Jalen’s contract ends that year and he will still have big cap hits going into void years after. If we extend him, that 97m$ cap hit drops by 60m$. So it’ll be 37m$ in dead cap + whatever the first year of his new deal will be

Not so sure about that. This place seems to have more Eagles fans than Cowboys fans.

Obviously he is doing something much better than Jerry though. And those fans can acknowledge Howie has been great.
Those yes saying Howie is wrong, are wvong themselves.

He is the con man that Jerry thinks he, himself is. The big difference, Howie cons other GM's into these great trades. Jerry only wants to con the fans into them thinking Jerry is going great.

Yes, I can find criticism in the truth.
Howie doesnt brag about it for a dacade vrs JJ

Repeat customers do business then

Dallas has the ability to do the same cap management as the Eagles. Have a couple of cap reset seasons then back to wheeling and dealing. Even if Jerry and son wanted to copy, they still have no idea how to do so.

Yes it's genius to surround a mid qb with an elite oline and an elite defense. Jerry and Stephen think the eagles are in the bowl because of AJ brown and Smith I'm sure. Hurts 100 yard passing playoff games sure made the difference
Why throw for 350 and go nowhere when you can run for 175 + and win games. Why people are so mad at this concept is beyond me.

Everything you're saying is accurate, but the Cowboys need to be extra careful about putting money into void years with Dak. Most likely they will only get 1 void year to use, and odds are pretty good that Dak wont be on the roster come 2029 when that void year happens. Although its likely something Jerry/Stephen would do it kinda kills the advantage of having a rookie QB deal if you have $80M in dead money.

Who is mad at the concept?
Not sure anyone is actually mad at the concept, but there are certainly people who are hyper QB focused that love to dismiss a players ability because of surrounding talent, and point to massive yardage totals as a sign that an offense is on the right path...not saying you BTW, just in general.

You would think other teams, mostly the Cowboys, would admit he's doing something right, and I need to adjust my system. It's foolish not to least compare their success against what you are doing.
You know if the Cowboys did this, the Zone would go crazy.

I’d guess that’s already a given and they’ve accepted that reality.
Exactly how many years was there between Aikman and Romo?
They’re going to make a half a assed run over the next 3 seasons and then tear it down.
Get ready for 2 seasons of Tony Banks and another 2 seasons of Quincy Carter beginning in 28!

Dallas does some of the same accounting moves....but has done a worse job of not swinging and missing on contracts like Zeke's and Gallup's and many others.

Dallas can make as much space as they want to if they really wanted to make a run at it...but they haven't. We can all speculate as to why. Right now we should be in a sell mode and be looking to develop a young team for a couple years and then make the free agent moves needed to get us to the top.

Instead we will keep doing the same....overpaying and poorly structuring deals, keeping players way after their effectiveness diminishes, and generally not doing what is needed to build a winner. There are teams that have figured it out. The Rams look to have done a good rebuild after going all in a few years back. The Eagles dropped back for a year here and there and then make another run. Baltimore keeps contending, taking a step back, and then doing it again.

Ed Werder is either not knowledgeable of how the CAP works or is just trying to stir stuff up. When the Eagles do contracts they push the majority of the CAP hit out into voided years and give the players low salaries in the first few years. Dallas writes normal contracts with normal salaries and every year just pushes the salary cap hit back. Basically you can either push the CAP hit all back immediately or do it as the contract goes along. Either way you end up taking the CAP hit. Dak, Ceedee, etc won’t end up having CAP hits as high as they are because Dallas will convert some of the salary into bonuses. Both Dak and Hurts contracts void in 2029. Right now Dak’s CAP hit in 2029 is a little over $1 million and Hurts is CAP hit is a little over $97 million. Where Howie is better than the 2 good balls that run our team is that he starts signing his good rookies after their 3rd year. He doesn’t play the waiting game like we did with Dak, Lamb, and Parsons.
