The Giants and the Cowboys are storied rivals, but the division foe is about to put one Dallas player in an awesome position. Thanks to a clause written into his contract extension several years ago, Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee stands to earn a huge bonus as early as this week if trends continue. Playing his normal allotment of snaps against the New York Giants in Week 14 will likely earn Lee a $2 million escalator in his 2017 salary, pushing his base up to $9 million.

I'm a fan of the meritocracy approach - if you're consistently available and play well, you should be paid accordingly.

Conversely, giving a fat up-front contract often leads to complacency and lack of effort over time.

While I agree with this in principle the draft and price controls for players in the first 4 years of a player's career are the 1000 lbs gorilla.

It is a really dumb way of saying Sean Lee will hit the 80% of Snaps clause...probably this week

Since he has payed almost every snap in the first 12 games the escalator was never in doubt this year......especially after the mini-controversy last season when he voluntarily sat out game 16 and 'lost' the bonus........DAL gave it to him anyways this Spring

I missed the part where the Giants were mailing him a check.

If this were being written about JPP we would be making fun of it...deservedly so.

Watch all the wannabe GM's on here pontificate that Lee now needs to be cut to create cap space thereby demonstrating yet again they have no clue what they are talking about.

Yes.

It will happen.

I suspect that Sean is more concerned about winning the game at this point; he seems to be one of the ultimate "team guys."
