The gloss is off of Rivera; he couldn't do what Zimmer did

And that is contain and beat the Indianapolis Colts.

I didn't see any inspired play by da barse defense last night.

All I saw was da barse be a reactive team, and, of course, by the time they reacted the colts were already way down field.

A disappointing display by da barse in what should have been their showcase game. Yeah, Grossman was not help, but its vaunted defense played scare and didn't adjust.

Rivera will interview but I doubt Jerra will see him with the same eyes (or awe) that he might have before the Super Bowl.

Boring Super Bowl.

I guess the difference between the Colts Defense when we played them and the rest of the regular season....vs the Colts Defense since the playoffs started has nothing to do with the games outcome...nor does the terrible play, possibly the worst starting QB in SB history in Grossman, has nothing to do with the game either.

Not saying the Bears defense looked good...but let's not forget some of the other factors in the game as well.

Sometimes you swing and miss. Anyone judging Rivera after one game needs institutionalized - Jerry would be no different. We don't even know that that's the defense Rivera would prefer.

I think people get to caught up in about defense stats, and don't really take into consideration other factors of the game. For instance, in last night game, the Bears d was pretty aggressive to start the game, but when the O was just horrible and the TOP shifted,, it nullified the ablility to blitz as much, so they had to back off and play a more conservative plan. I think whenever you look at the game of football in a vacuum, you can paint any picture you want.

The facts are, the Bears D, got them to the Superbowl, it sure wasn't Rex.

Wait a second, the Bears defense gave up just 22 points despite being on the field for over 40 minutes. It's hard to do anything when your offense is that bad. We are judging a guy because of one game now? Besides, if you hold the Bears to 22 points defensively, you should win that game. Also, his name is Jerry. I take it that's some Texas thing that the rest of the country finds annoying. At least I do. In English their names are Jerry and Jimmy.

People who judge a coach or players career after 1 game lose all credibility.

Thats the biggest problem with these message boards.

The key stat that tells the story: The bears only managed to 3 and out the Colts TWICE that game. And one of those was with a minute to go when the COlts were just running out the clock.

So the man gets judged by 1 game only? Lets throw out everything he did over the course of the season? Silly Cowboy fan.....Why do you think they call the Colts Super Bowl Champions? Because they are the best team in football. The great wall of China may not have been able to stop the Colts last night. Lets not get carried away and judge Riviera from one game.

That is how we in Farmers Branch prenounz it.
Also, reread the post.
The gist is that Jerry will probably see Rivera in a new light.
Had Rivera's defensive team destroyed the Colts, on the contrary, Rivera would be even a hotter commodity.

Rivera should have taken a page out of the much-maligned zimmer's playbook.:D

See, if you use your brain power (c'mon, do it, it can be fun) to read the post, you'll see that 1. Yes, it says the game was a dismal one for Rivera
and 2. That a dismal showing for Rivera and his defensive team makes him look less the shining star to Jerra and 3. Zimmer's defense contained the colts and rivera's didn't.

Comprehension is key.

Lemmings don't have no use for no comprehension. (Excuse the triple negative in the parallel construction of the sentence.) They just run around thinking the sky is falling and yelling "you can't judge a coach or team after one game!!!!" Probably not, but that was not the thesis, einsteins.:D

Is this an isolated view of Rivera. nope. Look around the rest of the board. Plenty of second-guessing of Rivera. Now you can run to the other posts and yell your chicken little invectives there, too, but you totally miss the point. Not that you haven't in the past.

I agree! The Bears defense was put into alot of bad spots by their offense and special teams. The fact that they were on the filed for 2/3 of the game, and only gave up 22 points against one of the league's best offenses, was quite impressive. When the Colts kept driving and getting into the red zone, that was the offense Bears defense holding them to a field goal and giving the bears offense another chance to come back. And there was the Bears offense doing nothing with those opportnities. You can argue whether River was right or wrong for not being more aggressive, but in the end, the Bears defense played well enough for that game to be won.

And Rivera did what Zimmer couldn't do; Zim never took a D to the SB. Did he?

And Zimmer has the highest honor just for the fact that he was a coach for the Cowboys and Rivera of only the lowly Bears.

It's always better to be a Dallas Cowboy.

this stuff is getting silly. Rivera isnt subpar now after ONE GAME!!!

its funny how some are throwing out a great defense over the course of a whole season over one game...in which it really wasnt even the defense that lost them that game but a totally inept offense

Indy has historically struggled against the 3-4 and Jerry knows that.

Not only that but if P Manning and Dungy don't know how to attack the defense that Dungy made popular, then nobody will.
