But the broadcasting part of all that is coming to an end. Galloway, 70, is retiring from ESPN Radio after he signs off his show Monday, a couple of months earlier than a previously announced year-end date.

There will be no big fanfare or special on-location party, Galloway said Wednesday night. Sure, he’ll explain why he’s leaving and sign off with a “goodbye.” But otherwise, he said, it’s just another “regular show.”

Galloway is definitely an acquired taste (which I'm not sure I ever acquired) but lately I felt like his age was catching up to him. Just flat out didn't make sense half the time. I was always petrified to think what out of market listeners must have thought about Texans from listening to him, as opposed to guys like Coop and Norm.

Galloway once was great, one of the best baseball writers in the country. Tremendous as a pioneer to sports talk radio, too.

But for many, many, MANY years now, he's been mailing it in. Very uninformative, though he's good on a big breaking news sports day because of his experience.

When the Ticket took over the reins of management for ESPN, that was the last straw for him. He was going to hang around through the end of the year, but he wants nothing to do with The Ticket, which has been pounding him in the ratings and making him look silly for over a decade.

Nice career, but long past due. He spent yesterday beating up John Daniels for ousting "Nolan" guys with the Rangers. He's headed out to pasture, and somewhat begrudgingly.

I rarely agreed with the guy but if you have to respect how long he's done this for and the entertainment he provided. He was good entertainment.

Agree with this. I listened to him because i thought he was pretty funny. He was my go to for comedy more so than breaking news.

Yea man.....I think most people took him far more serious than he took his own job. He was there for entertainment. Not for insightful views on sports.

He is a legend. Made names that stuck like El Dorado, 9 toe Deion, Red Headed Jesus....

Exactly! i never took him seriously. To me, when i started listening to him, he sounded like a guy who checked out a long time ago and was the comic relief of the show while his co hosts would attempt to have a real discussion about sports. I listen to him everyday from California and he still cracks me up. He will be missed.

Except he actually stole that last one from Superpunk. :)

I never listened to him back in the WBAP days... Don't know why. Not sure I even realized what sports talk was back then. But I've listened for most of his 103.3 days. Going to miss that show because despite the outrageous personality which not everyone cares for, he had some great sources around all the DFW teams and the show was always fun.
