OK, this isn’t a traditional mock because the key to this draft is who is willing to trade with Dallas. IMO the draft has key positions Dallas will target and several players available at each of those positions, but how the puzzle pieces fit together could go any of a dozen different ways.

The real value is going to be in the 2nd and 3rd round and while the zillion dollar question is QB, I think some spots have clear targets. I’ll list the positions, players and scenarios below. Obviously, a player dropping a round to our pick (like Randy Gregory did) jumbles everything.

KEY POSITIONS:

QB: I don’t see the QBs in this class worth the pick at #4 but wouldn’t doubt one is taken there. IMO the best scenario is taking Lynch later in the first after a trade down. If a QB isn’t taken in the 1st, I definitely think Prescott or Hackenberg is taken later in the draft.

DE: The only real position of need, but the good news is there are plenty of good players available. If we don’t get the player we want Jason Jones could be signed, but I think Dallas drafts a LDE in the 2nd and moves DLaw to RDE.

S: Byron Jones starts at FS and while the team could go into next season with Church and Wilcox at SS, drafting Vonn Bell or Karl Joseph would be significant upgrade.

RB: The team would be OK without taking a RB but there will be very good value picks available in the 3rd like Devontae Booker, Kenneth Dixon and CJ Prossie. I think the 3rd round is definitely a RB unless a BPA drops significantly when they make their pick at 67.

WR: Another position that doesn’t have to be upgraded but needs it. This draft has very good value in the 2nd round is a great opportunity to add a WR that would be #2 by midseason. WRs Michael Thomas, Will Fuller and Tyler Boyd would all be good selections in the second round, with Fuller adding a deep threat option that would help the offense tremendously. Putting a 2nd round pick into the mix will make the entire WR Corps significantly better.

CB: The wildcard, this could be our first pick (potentially Ramsey, who I think would be used the way Jones was last year) or they may not draft one at all. They will certainly take a CB in the later rounds but if they pick one earlier, the team saves a lot of cap room because they will cut Brandon Carr the next day.

DRAFT TARGETS BY ROUND

Picks at 4: Ramsey and Jack

Picks at 7 – 15: Elliot and Treadwell, followed by QB Lynch and DE Noah Spence

Picks in the 2nd Round: DE Kevin Dodd and Emmanuel Ogbah, Safeties Vonn Bell and Karl Joseph, WRs Michael Thomas, Will Fuller and Tyler Boyd

Picks in the 3rd Round: RBs Devonate Booker, Kenneth Dixon and CJ Prossie

(The slotting is roughly based off Dane Brugler’s list).

Draft in Standing Pat (Best Case):

1 – 4: Ramsey or Jack
2 – 34: DE Kevin Dodd
3 - 67: RB Devonate Booker

Draft in Standing Pat (Worst Case):

1 – 4: QB Paxton Lynch
2 – 34: WR Tyler Boyd
3 - 67: RB Paul Perkins

Small Trade Down:

1 – 7: QB or Treadwell
2 – 34: DE Kevin Dodd
2 – 37: WR Will Fuller
3 - 67: RB Devonate Booker

Major Trade Down:

1 – 15: QB Paxton Lynch
2 – 34: DE Kevin Dodd
2 – 43: WR Will Fuller
2 - 45: S Karl Joseph
3 - 67: RB Devonate Booker

Not that the Rams trade will happen, but in this draft I’m trading down for the most 2nd and 3rd round picks possible.

Much rather the trade down to 15. Not as high on Dodd but you got instant players with Joseph, Booker, Fuller and Dodd. Also the best QB in the draft for the future.

Helps the team now and down the road

Good stuff.

You REALLY like Treadwell, I see.
7th overall pick in one scenario?
For me, 27th maybe. just me though

I do think Treadwell is a Top 10 talent and would be a "final piece of the puzzle" to turn the offense from a good one to an elite unit. Dez can't be covered in single coverage (or rarely) and Treadwell would be the same type of player by the end of his rookie year.

If you have two options like that, plus Witten and TWill as secondary options, plus specialty types like Bealey and Dunbar - you have an elite passing game when Romo is healthy.

If Dallas were able to pull this off assuming they pass on the QB's @4 and the Rams trade with giving up those 2 second rounders this would be an epic haul not even considering rounds four and six.

I wish Will Fuller would fall that far. I don't think he makes it out of the 20s.

There are a lot of good WRs in this draft, Brugler has Will Fuller as his 7th best WR and slotted as the 44th best player overall. I love the idea of Fuller (after taking Dodd) because he gives you that home run deep threat that makes the rest of the offense better, but even if he is gone early Dallas will be able to take a very good WR in the second round that will have a shot at being the second starter late in the year.

Until Dallas meets with Jack or he visits, I would not put him in any 1st round mock.

I know Dallas generally drafts players that have been in for a visit (I think everyone on my list but Jack has) but I think Myles Jack is such a high profile player they have spent time with him at his Pro Day, etc. I put Dak Prescott in the same category, he hasn't been in for an official visit but the coaching staff spent a ton of time with him at the Senior Bowl. I think it accomplishes the same thing.
