The Key to Next Season

is very simple in my opinion. WE HAVE TO RUN THE BALL!!!!!!! Going into next season, we should have the best threesome in the NFL at RB. You look at the teams that year after year seem to have the best playoff runs and it's teams that play good defense and run the ball well. We have an O line that I think could be road graders like our O line of the 90's, but they're more concerned with pass blocking because we throw the damn ball too much. It puts our O line in too much of a passive/defensive mind set IMO. This off-season our coaching staff needs to concentrate on run blocking and utilizing what I think are our best offensive weapons: our RBs. If we can get our offensive team in a smashmouth mindset, I think we'll be much better off. The best friend of a QB is a good running game. Running the ball more and more effectively will instantly make our passing game better and will take some of the heat off Romo and the O line. Is it just me, or is this pretty simple? Football coaches paid millions of dollars should see this.

Nothing will save this team until they learn how to cut down on mistakes.

This team LOVES to beat themselves.

So saying something like " we need to run the ball", "We need more short passes" ect, ect, I doubt has anything to do with why we are sitting at home.

This team has shown you can put them in a position to win and they will give the game away.

They have to find out why they choke and work on that extremely hard this offseason.

We were 21st in rushing this season, out rushing our opponents by only 17 yards. That's ridiculous. Among the best games we played all year were the games against Green Bay and the second Washington game. Why? Because we stuck with the run and ran the ball down the opponent's throats. We did suffer some injuries at RB, but even before the injuries we didn't commit to the run. In the first game against Washinton, our RBs ran the ball a total of 8 times, and that was at HOME. Until we quit trying to be so cute offensively and hit a homerun every time we have the ball, we will not get to the Super Bowl. It seems we're trying to outsmart the other team rather than just kicking its ***. It's ashame that we wasted so much potential this year by being stupid.

Well, you're wrong. No doubt the mistakes/penalties have killed us, but many of those penalties occur because we don't run the ball enough. As I said, our O line is in a passive/survival mindset too much because they're always on their heels pass blocking. We run the ball, we win. Period. It will help our offense overall, including the passing game.

Because Green Bay and Washington suck worse than us?

The key to next season IS running the ball provided that HH can more out of his linemen than he did in 2008. Columbo, in my opinion, is the only lineman who made a consistent effort in the running game.

The O Line is the key without a doubt. If the O Line does a good job up front then we can use all 3 of our RBs (different situations, different RB .... everyone is fresher). The running game then sets up the pass, but everything hinges on the play up front.

No one can tell me our O line can't run block. I just refuse to believe it. The problem is most likley that we spend too much time in practice on pass blocking. Why? Because we want to throw the damn ball far too much. Again, (and again, and again), everyone knows the best way to slow down a pass rush and to open up your passing game is to have an effective run game. That's why we were so damn good in the 90's. We ran the ball. Even when we weren't running well, we stuck with it. We weren't flashy. We didn't try to score 35 points every game. We wore teams down with our run game, and then we hit them with big plays in the passing game. Most of all, we had balance, but our primary bread and butter was still the run game. See the Giants. The Steelers. The Ravens. And on and on. Traditioinally, pass happy teams don't do well in the playoffs. Examples? The Dolphins and Chargers of the 80's had prolific record-setting passing games. No Super Bowls. Football is a pretty simple game when played the right way. Block, tackle, and run the ball. Remember the old saying. Three things can happen when you throw the ball and two of them are bad.

That falls to the coaching staff. We have the talent on the O line. Now we just need the coaching and the scheme.

Star4Ever,

You are exactly right which is why I want to see Garrett go somewhere else. Maybe he will succeed there and become a great coach someplace else, but he didn't get it done this year witha wealth of talent. Plain and simple .... Under achievers!

Yeah if we would have just ran the ball against Baltimore they wouldn't have gashed us for 2 70 yard runs in a row.

Romo wouldn't have thrown that pick late in the Steelers game.

The team wouldn't have gotten obliterated by Philly had we just run the ball.

We aren't losing because of basic football philosiphies.

Do we need to run the ball more? Absolutely.

But running the ball more wouldn't have us in the playoffs. We aren't in the playoffs for reasons that selling out on the run wouldn't have controlled.

These guys aren't playing right now because they are stupid and find ways to lose games.

Green Bay was 6-10 and Washington was 8-8. Come on. Why would you even bring them up?

How are you going to distribute carries to 3 running backs and keep the WRs happy at the same time? Tell us, Martellus........

Both teams had injuries later in the season, just like us. At the time we played them, both were considered playoff contenders.

Your post is exactly what has gotten this team in trouble. I don't give a **** about keeping anyone "happy" and neither should the coaching staff or ownership. Frankly, I prefer winning. Those that aren't on board with this philosophy need not apply.

Running the ball successfully against Baltimore would've kept our defense off the field some and they wouldn't have been dead tired when it mattered in the 4th quarter. Come on. You've got to know a little more about football than you're showing. I agree that the penalties and undisciplined play have killed us, but football is pretty basic. Line up against the other guy and whip his ***. We don't do that. And because we dont' go that, we lose games we shouldn't lose. Don't get me wrong, I'm not for three downs and a cloud of dust. However, if we don't start running the ball effectively and efficiently, we're gonna end up every season like the last few. ANYONE with any common football sense knows we rely far too much on the pass and that gets us in trouble. Running the ball more and more effectively will also cut down on penalties, since most of our penalties are on passing downs.

OK, well, we'll see how that goes. Too bad key players on the team aren't on board with that philosophy and they didn't exactly do a great job playing through the turmoil once those players spoke up this year.

Keys to next season:

Wade Fired or demoted

Above average head coach

Jason Garret starts calling real game plans

Tony Romo Starts to give a damn about winning and stops playing like crap in crunch time.

T.O needs to shut up and start playing hard every single play. I'm tired of watching that guy giving up on routes and complaining. Droped passes, piss poor effort and drama. Get that guy out of HERE!

Get Miles Austin more involed

Get the running game more involved

Jerry Jones...He needs to change

But it doesnt matter nothing is probably going to change..THis team is soft.
