I think it's too much hype. As I've stated previously, in Carolina, Hardy had another double-digit sack guy at the other DE position in Charles Johnson. His supporting cast on the DL and on defense in general was probably better with those Panther teams on which he thrived. When I see him on tape, I see a really good player that plays hard, but I do not see a truly elite DE. That said, he will be a big improvement over who we have now, and his presence should also soon help reflect our depth at DE.

it's funny because like every other person out there sees an elite pass rusher in every sense of the word.

Thanks.

Looks like he has put those concerns to rest a big way so far in his career.

That's certainly his reputation.

It is interesting to wonder however about the chicken - egg effect of that Carolina team where Hardy had 15 sacks and the team had 59.

Obviously a whole lot of people where sacking a whole lot of QBs. 59 is an unusually high number (at least it seems that way to me).

Charles Johnson had multi-digit sacks both of the years Hardy did and hasn't hit double-digits since.

I'm intensely curious to see how this all plays out with Hardy in Dallas. He seem <big> in pre-season -- more than 280. I'm sure most of that was knocking off the rust. It will be interesting to see what he looks like in a real game on Sunday.

Hardy brings that infectious spirit and animated game - much like Dez does. Hope Hardy can do for the D like Dez does the O. Will hold my hype in check for the first game, but fully expect him to be a catalyst player the rest of this season. When we get all the injured players back on D, I think we have a formidable bunch of DE's. Who WILL reek havoc on opposing Olines.
BUT, we are and will be all year weak up the middle. That must be fixed next off season, as it should have been in the off season. But man, do I look forward to seeing the DE rotation they can bring if we get them all healthy !

Well, ok then coach, sit him, he is a bum, next man up....

I said he was a definite upgrade for us... I don't see why you're taking it to this extreme...

Hardy was the one who was double teamed in Carolina not Charles Johnson so Hardy was the one who helped Johnson. Look what happened to Carolina last year without Hardy. That defensive line and defense as a whole wasn't the same. I don't see how you can argue Hardy isn't an elite defensive end. He has the numbers, he has the impact of making other players around him better and allowing them to flourish, and is a two way player.

Was he really the one being double-teamed? I mean Hardy started all 16 games in his sophomore season of 2011 and only had 4 sacks... Johnson meanwhile had 9 sacks in 2011, this after having a breakout season with 11.5 in 2010 ... So going into the 2012 season, who do you think was really going to get double-teamed more? I would think it was Johnson... Johnson was a double-digit sack guy well before Hardy... Again in 2012, Johnson had 12.5 sacks to Hardy's 11... 2013 was the first and only year that Hardy had more sacks than Johnson, when he had 15 to Johnson's 11... In the past 5 seasons, Johnson has averaged 10.5 sacks. So again, I think defenses would be as much or more likely to double-team Johnson.

Can Hardy be as effective without a Charles Johnson at the other DE position? Can Gregory and/or Lawrence take advantage of Hardy getting doubled and become our Charles Johnson? I think the answer could be yes to both of those questions, but I need to see it happen once or twice before I'll believe the hype.

Still never gets old:

Reporter 1: "Where did you come up with Hogwarts?"

Kraken: "Have you ever seen Harry Potter? Hogwarts. A little witchcraft. Wizardry."

Reporter 1: "How long have you been thinking of that?"

Kraken: "It's The Kraken. Mystical. It's where he lives at."

Reporter 1: "You're mixing mythology and fantasy."

Kraken: "I can do whatever I want. I'm The Kraken. ... If you feel you can ask The Kraken personally where he goes to school, and prove me wrong, then I feel like I'll change it."

Reporter 2: "How long have you been Kraken?"

Kraken: "For as long as I can remember. Yesterday."

Reporter 1: "Is Ole Miss Hogwarts?"

Kraken: "No, that's not where I said I went. Hardy went to Ole Miss."

Reporter 1 as Reporter 2 steps back: "And Kraken didn't?"

Kraken: "That's time blown right there. You gotta listen. I'm talking. You've got to listen.'

I'm listening to Talkin Cowboys right now, and Nate Newton is really hyping up the return of Greg Hardy. He says that even if Hardy only gets 10-15 plays this week, he will change the entire complexion of the defense: you will see Lawrence and Crawford elevate their games because of all the attention he commands, and he will wreak havoc all along the line. His flexibility also opens up a bunch of options for d-line personnel packages.

Now, I watched Hardy through the pre-season and what footage was available in training camp.

Could it be that ol' Nate is over-hyping this guy?

Won't it take a couple of games for the Kraken to knock off the rust and get to full speed?

Are we expecting too much of him right out of the chute?

I'm looking forward to seeing him play as much as the rest of us, but I'm a bit concerned that we might be setting our collective expectations too high.

I wish Puff the magic dragon was coming back this week also

I don't think he's a scrub or anything... I think he's our best DL, and I think as a collective we'll be pretty good, but I don't expect him to reach 10 sacks in only 12 games, which is what it would take for him to live up to his hype... I think he'll probably go for 6-8 sacks this season, even though he'll be double-teamed constantly. And for our team, that's really nice production...

Every other person will also tell you that Dallas has the most dominant OL in the NFL, and I don't buy that hype either...

I could be wrong... I know I'm definitely not an expert, it's just the opinion my eyeballs have helped me formulate.

I am more cocerned with Hardy being too hyped up! Been a long time since he played a NFL game and will be looking to make a statement.

Rust? If he was a guy that touched the ball, ran routes or had to read defenses...agreed. However, he has one job and one he is very good at...kill Brady. Don't feed your dog for 3 days and see if he is rusty with his eating habits. Just don't want him to eat too fast and will need to take a nap before his next meal. :muttley:

Post of the day.

Hardy would have put the hurt on both Brees and Matty Ice. Both teams would have adjusted blocking schemes to keep him off their QB, they know him too well. But Hardy's not just about sacks, its about attitude and hurt. He does not have to sack the QB to make an impact, just bring the pain. Hit that QB, violently and often. That's Hardy. Brady better start practicing his whining and crying now.

we have made a concerted effort and went out of our way to ignore good DTs in the draft and FA all because Marinelli loves Hayden.

Hardy better make every tackle or sack because our dB's can't tackle, especially Church.

It's not just him. Rolando McClain brought some kind of energy and attitude to the defense last year when he stepped in.

It was very obvious that guys like Justin Durant and Bruce Carter and even Hitchins all seemed to just play better (until injuries).

I'm hoping that the defense gets that excitment attitude back with these guys in there.

Well said...I like it...
But, we haven't been successful doing that so far and the Patriots are better than Atlanta or New Orleans.
Look for us to be chasing receivers all day as the Patriots ring up the scoreboard.

That is what I am afraid of. Saying it much easier than them doing it.
