But he doesn’t have to sign it until he wants to. And that will be when it’s in his best interest to do so. He has enough leverage to block any trade if he’s willing to play for the Cowboys in 2026 for $28 million.

He can sign it the day before the season starts and the Cowboys will have to pay him the $28 million over 17 game days for the season.

Otherwise, yes, he waits until after July 15, Cowboys can’t trade him, he can’t sign elsewhere, and he joins the Cowboys at his leisure, before the season starts, and gets paid $28 million over 17 games. If he gets injured and misses games, he still gets paid. If he lays down on a training table, he still gets paid. And the $28 million all hits the Cowboys’ 2026 salary cap.

I am good with this. Get a 2nd or a 3rd and another team eats his contract. We draft a capable #2 WR and use the money to pay Pickens and perhaps fill some other holes. I don’t see how we pay both WRs and I’ve grown bored with Cee Dee’s routine.

Like I mentioned before, the Cowboys need to show their hand and say that we want Pickens to play for us, and no one else. We are also willing to tag him if necessary. No one has said that the franchise tag gives the team all of the power. I don't know where you got that idea.

That happens often around here, fans talk **** about our own players, or minimize their contributions, but then turn around and over estimate how much we can get for them in a trade.
