Jason Kidd definitely looked blind-sided in those first press conferences when the trade was announced. And that's on the owner. Anyone with half a brain would have told him to run that by the coach first, unless you intended on firing him.Alignment with the coach.... great.
I think Kidd knew. Nico is the face and I do believe Cuban was blindsided but I believe Nico ran that by Dumont and Kidd.Jason Kidd definitely looked blind-sided in those first press conferences when the trade was announced. The Mavs owners aren't basketball people and Nico took full advantage. Mark Cuban would have fired Nico for even suggesting trading Luka. The new owners are just now coming to the realization that they were ripped off. The Mavs now suck and play their home games in front of a half empty arena. An arena that used to be sold out and energized by a contending team lead by its young superstar. If i'm the owner, i'm not only firing Nico but also hiring a private investigator to dig and see if there wasn't another motive for the trade.Jason Kidd definitely looked blind-sided in those first press conferences when the trade was announced. Don't blame Flagg. Nico got absurdly lucky in the draft lottery. But, the kid isn't Luka. Now they just have to get rid of Anthony Davis and continue tanking for next years lottery. If the Mavs get another high lottery , they can rebuild.Nico made me a Spurs fan. Ill never support the Mavs ever again. Ill take one Luka over 10 Flaggs.
The story has been coming out; and it is sadder than all this.Nico will go down in infamy in the annals of NBA lore. Might be the single worst trade in NBA history. I've been watching the NBA since the early 1980's when Magic and Bird arrived on the scene and transformed the league. Point is that i've seen a lot. I am familiar with 45 years of NBA basketball. Granted, I wasn't around when Warriors traded Wilt Chamberlain or when the Bucks traded Kareem. But since i've been paying attention, this is the worst trade i've ever seen. Never has an all-nba player in his prime coming off a championship series appearance where he literally strapped the team to his back to get them there been traded.........and for so little that it makes the whole thing even more shady. I can't wait to find out the whole story. It won't surprise me at all if one day it came out that Nico took money under the table to facilitate this trade. It's either that or he's the dumbest GM in NBA history.
My fandom was on pause but I'm back in now that Nico was fired.Nico made me a Spurs fan. Ill never support the Mavs ever again. Ill take one Luka over 10 Flaggs.
Yeah, I can't see a Mavs fan ever rooting for the Spurs - especially if your 30 or older. Younger fans, sure - as that rivalry hasn't been like it use to be.My fandom was on pause but I'm back in now that Nico was fired.
I still hate the Adelson's but owners generally are trash.
I could never, ever be a Spurs fan.
You just wonder how people like Dumont amass so much wealth and power, but are apparently this gullible. If you don't know jack about basketball , why wouldn't they consult others around the league? I think they fired Nico bc they are slowly realizing just how badly the team got ripped off and how much it has cut into the value of the franchise and cash flow. They should sue the guy.The story has been coming out; and it is sadder than all this.
Nico essentially let his ego get in the way.
Luka is always going to play for his country and spend off seasons in Europe but that made Nico mad.
He wanted Luka to focus on his NBA conditioning and season above all else.
Fair want but Dallas has always acceded these points to Luka.
That put him at odds with Luka's camp (Dad).
So, he started picking petty fights with Luka.
Firing the best trainer in pro sports.
Trading off or not resigning his friends on the team.
Luka stopped taking his calls.
So, he saw a chance to get Cuban out of the way by sweet talking Dumont and it worked.
Sold Dumont on avoiding he big pay for Luka who was out of shape and "always hurt".
Failed to mention he'd be banking on two older vets who were actually injured/hurt more often and one in AD who made even more money...........
Gave his buddy in LA Luka for pennies on the dollar because he still has a Kobe fetish and cost Luka 100M in super max salary.
Dude deserves jail time.
What he did to this Franchise was criminal. I can't think of another example of a GM who completely broke a franchise overnight. The story has been coming out; and it is sadder than all this.
