IF the Eagles wanted to land Gonzo, all they had to fork over was a 3rd rounder. However-when they refused to when all was said and done, all you heard from the media was how they have a hard nosed, golden standard FO that doesn't give in to other teams' high demands, blah, blah, blah.

However-prior to the Roy11 trade, everyone said how we needed another receiver to take the load off of TO and the double teams thrown his way. But subsequently when the trade happened, they all started to say how Jerry mortgaged the future, he traded for a player they didn't need on O anyways, blah, blah, blah.

I don't get it-the Eagles have 2 #1's, 2 #2's, AND a Pro Bowl/All Pro CB that wants out...but they still thought a 3RD ROUNDER for a stud TE was TOO much? When, in fact, TE is the team's glaring weakness?

I do find it funny how they say that adding RW will mean less balls for TO. Heck, he is only catching 3 passes a game since the GB game anyway so how many fewer can he get? Any idiot can see that this will mean more catches for TO, not less. On the mortgage future argument....It isn't like we gave up a 1 for a 35 year old WR in the final year of his contract to try to win one more wiht an old team. We are young at a lot of key spots, and anyone that compares this to the Galloway deal is really reaching. It is not even close to the same situation.

We overpaid, but that's ok. This overpayment could be the ley to advancing Dallas to a SB Win. The team is young and talented, we have multiple mid round draft picks next yr. The trade was for a position that needed talented youth. check

Some have mentioned the Galloway trade, but that was a team trying to hold onto it's glory. Jerry thought that team was just a player away, he was wrong bad drafts and age had left that team untalented.

Williams may or may not be the final push, but I understand the move and support it. I think we overpaid, but we probably had too and sometimes you do have to overpay to get things that are rarely available (26 yr old talented and experienced WR)

People have got to get over the TV pundits, they will ruin your enjoyment of a talented Dallas Cowboys football team, Jerry just girns at them because he knows it's all jealousy, we need to learn to do that.

You forgot to add the name "Werder" into your post.

I really question whether we overpaid in picks. He was the 5th pick in his draft. If we were to draft someone of comparable ability it would take about that any time. As it is we look to be drafting no better then 20 or so, maybe higher if we do well the rest of the year. What would it take to move up from 20 to 5?

People need to rag on the cowboys for something all the time, just get used to it.
We didn't mortgage the future for him we had and still have so many picks in the draft that it's really only a 1st we'll be missing, a 1st which would have most likely been used on a WR anyways and it's very doubtful that WR would be any better then Williams after 3-4 years. The Cowboys just got better and it makes people sick

so what if we overpaid slightly. We have a bona fide 1b receiver now that is in his prime and can only get better. He can stretch the field, make the leaping grab and go over the middle. No WR in the draft in 09 can give us his production, not one.
The media will be eating crow when RWII helps this team terrifying on offence.

Actually, the Chiefs were asking for the same price that New Orleans paid the NT G-Men for J. Shockey. They wanted a 2nd and a 5th. No one offered so Gonzo is still a Chief.

The possibility of something getting done on draft day 2009 is still there of course. I almost used probability instead because of Gonzo's level of displeasure with the Chiefs. He ripped them pretty good this week. It's clear he is very unhappy and wants out. Should Carl Peterson (the GM) get fired after this season anything is possible.

I agree. I don't get why anyone would say we overpaid for Roy Williams. The 7th we got petty much offsets the 6th we gave them. Not much difference between the two. So, basically we gave up a low first round pick and a third. How is that giving up too much for an established Pro Bowl caliber WR? We would have most likely drafted one in the first or second round this coming April anyway. Now we don't have to. Besides, we had an abundance of draft picks anyway. Anyone that says we gave up too much is simply hating on the Cowboys, which as we all know is nothing new.

The way I see it, any story that they find or make up about the Boys' brings them high ratings. So as true fans we can expect this year in and year out. If the Patriots or Eagles had made the exact same trade then it would have been the greatest thing since slice bread.

As for mortgaging the future, I don't understand how people see it that way when we were most likely would have been going for a WR in the first round in the the low 20's up to 32. What can you have gotten in that situation that would have matched RW11. As we all know drafting a WR in the first is a crap shoot with blinders on. Plus, I truly believe if you wanna destroy a good or excellent WR, then send them to Detroit. I believe we will see a different Roy in terms of attitude, commitment, and dedication.

The reasoning can be debated, but the fact is in general NFL teams value draft picks higher than players. Draft picks have smaller contracts in general. They are hope and potential which teams love to sell fans.

If you look at it objectively I think you can say we overpaid, but I don't think we mortgaged the future and I think this trade made all the sense in the world. If I'm buying a classic car I can pay more than it's valued and it be worth it to me. You guys are getting hung up on things that don't matter.

If you want to look at it postively, we gave up the chance to grab another:
1st - Bobby Carpenter
3rd - James Marten
6th - Montavius Stanley

More than what we gave up, I'd wager.

It really isn't a big deal. Essentially it's a 1 and a 3, which isn't that great, for a sure thing, or at least a young proven commodity. Contrary to popular opinion, Bolden is more of a possesion receiver than Williams, and he doesn't have nearly the success against #1 corners. We also have a ton of later round picks, which we have had some success with. I would assume that we would really use the BPA theory, or get a steal in someone that has dropped off in the draft. We could also package picks and move up to a higher 2nd pick. We have many options, guys. This wasn't a big deal.
