We had 3 extra days rest. We were playing at home. We had just gotten embarrassed by Detroit. We had to have this win to have a realistic chance to make the playoffs. Minnesota’s QB had played like one of the worst starting QB’s in the league during the season. We had everything to play for, Minnesota not so much.

So what happens: Minnesota out plays us in all 3 phases AND we get out coached in the 2 most important phases, Offense and Defense.
I was most disappointed in Shotty and his Offense. I thought he would have better answers for Flores and his 7-8 man fronts. Like last week, Dak was under constant pressure. Dak and the offense were forced to attempt long field goal, after long field goal because they couldn’t convert 3rd downs vs Flores confusing scheme. We should have thrown the ball more on running downs with max protection, to allow are QB more time to pass, and excellent receivers more time to get open. Dak was constantly getting rid of the ball very quickly! Shotty could have helped out by changing the protections, and throwing on early downs more, and throwing the ball down field. Where was the slant and go to Pickens?
I will give some credit to Flores and his confusing D. He made us look bad on a lot of 3rd downs!

Our D was NOT surprising. Predictable and vanilla! A decent, even below decent QB, like Minnesota’s can thrive vs our D. How much did Carson get beat by on the “GO”
route, 7 yards. Our defensive players under Eberflus do not do their own job. On the bootleg our stupid LBer Liafou did not contain. Williams did not contain on the QB rollout when their QB throw the TD.

***This game was a perfect game to compare a basic vanilla defense, that is stationary before the snap, and predictable after the snap, to a defense that has a bunch of pre snap movement, and is not predictable after the snap. Also all the players are on the same page doing THEIR job!!!!!!!

Lastly, coaching MATTERS a LOT!!
We must have a DC like Flores. Send Eberflus packing.
Also, I am not sold on Shotty either. His pass protection schemes have been very shaky the last few weeks. It does no good to have, 3 awesome receivers when the QB has very little time to throw. He needs to help his mediocre tackles more, or move guys around( Bass at guard and Tyler Smith at OT). Why isn’t Tyler Smith playing tackle. He is better than any tackle we have. He has proven it!!!!

Any thoughts?

Tackle is an acute problem with this offense . You invested heavy draft capital in Guyton but he misses stretches of the season both last year and this year . Steele is a journeyman at best ,he’s really depth . Thomas was drafted round 7 for a reason and it’s showing .

With defense in the gutter and needing the draft picks the solution is dip into FA maybe get a Rasheed Walker the Packer to come over . For some reason they decided to trade Asim Richards who if nothing else provided depth . It all starts up front .

You make some great points. Tyler Smith at LT, Guyton should be tried at RT. Steele should be sent packing. We had a chance to find out if Bass can handle a starting role at Guard and didn't and now he is a F.A.

Shotty was outcoached and unable to adjust. This offense clicked best when passing on non obvious passing downs throughout the year but in a win or out game decided to be as predictable as possible.

The defense was predictable and frustrating all year long and never adjusted other than adding a couple of players at the trade deadline.

Start over with an entirely new coaching staff and blow up this roster. I am so envious of the teams with young up and coming QB's with solid defenses that you can see improving quickly. Denver and New England come immediately to mind.

100% spot on!!!!

This is exactly why I don't want to see Brian Schottenheimer as head coach of our Dallas Cowboys anymore. He simply sucks and will never get better! 27 years coaching offense in the NFL, and now we see why no other team has ever offered him a head coaching job. I don't need to see another season to know Brian Schottenheimer will never get it!

Quit wasting time, Jerry! Fire both Brian Schottenheimer and his buddy, Matt Eberflus. Both are lost causes and should not have anything more to do with the Dallas Cowboys. Keep some of the assistants, but go find yourself some real masterminds and creative play creators for both offense, defense and special teams. Do it now if you truly care about this team and its fans!

Our current QB is more than fine. Dak is playing lights out (Top 5 QB) and would give us a much better chance than any rookie college QB the next 2-3 years.

Replace the stupid head coach/O-Coordinator, D--Coordinator and Special Teams coach.

I have been hearing that for years. Over the course of a season Dak puts up some impressive stats when he has the pieces around him but somehow we never get over the hump or even close to the promised land.

My main thoughts are to put me in charge. I was one of the first ones talking about firing him. He was bad early on. Eagles game we got lucky. The problem is he stayed bad the whole season, just like I said he would.

He's just not very bright. Talks a good game at press conferences. As a coach he's a dimwit.

Give me a break. There is no coach that you would find acceptable if you expect perfection

The sooner you accept that Jerry simply doesn't give a damn about wins or losses, the easier it will be for you to not get so upset after games like this one. If the owner doesn't care, why should me or any other fan care? Jerry thinks all he has to do is enough to stay 'relevant and interesting' (his words). That minimal effort each year has kept the cash flowing, so why change?

I watch the games every weekend because I still like watching the sport (for now). But I gave up being emotionally invested many years ago.

After watching the season go by it's really pretty simple Jerry will add talent.
But there's never enough talent to overcome the bad coaching that we constantly have because Jerry has to be comfortable.

Jerry's comfort and spotlight presents is the most important thing to him that's why he continues to hire substandard coaches that do nothing to elevate the talent we have and can never get the most out of the talent we acquire.

The coaching and the culture we have here just enables underachievement constantly.

That's the way it will continue to be with Jerry at the helm

You do know it takes a whole team to reach the playoffs, then win once there, don't you?

Guess what.... the Vikings beat the Lions IN Detroit, and the Bears IN Chicago. The Bears and Lions are overall much better teams and better overall coached than the Cowboys.

Not saying losing to the Vikings felt good, but its not like the Vikings are the Browns or the Jets. I knew they were tough coming in and if you go back and look in the prediction thread earlier in the week, I PREDICTED that the Cowboys would lose this game because im aware of how scrappy this team can be.

And I was right.

You're acting like we loss to the worst team in the league. Nope, thats not the case at all. They beat two of the best teams in football, so beating us isn't this shocking anomaly of immense proportions or something. Relax bro.

Coming out in the draft, Thomas was projected to move inside to guard. I still think that's where he belongs and he will probably be pretty solid there. But Dallas has Bass and Hoffman and they drafted Booker so Thomas has no place to go but OT. If Bass leaves in free agency after this season, and I think he will, I will get Dallas moves Thomas to a backup Guard position.

I also agree. Richards maybe bee the better option for backup LT, but he's a backup in New Orleans right now.

I am curious to see how Cornelius does next year. Regardless, I think the Cowboys must get an OT to replace Steele and find a better backup than Thomas. I would not be shocked if the Cowboys wind up using their 1st round pick on an OT.

There's no doubt we got outcoached in Detroit and Minnesota games. Perhaps we are finding out what 31 teams already knew about BS - Brian Schottenheimer

They have a rookie QB. Who only has 1 game without an INT...and he looked like a young Joe Montana out there.

Meanwhile Dak -with 2 all pros - couldn't figure out who to block or throw to. Was jittery. Held the ball. His line didn't help...but....that's when you switch the offense to short passing game.

But Dak is not consistently accurate to do that nickel and dime down the field. He'll throw one to the other team given 12 snaps in a given drive over time. So...he looks for the big chunk with a line that can't block...and then panics when it's not there.

they knew they can get pressure and get to dak in less than 2 seconds, so they gambled and won. when you are pressured, then it takes away those long passes down field that take time to develop. what I was surprised in the cover zero we didn't run more slants and just throw right behind them. we did that in a couple of plays, when dak escaped pressure and just dumped it right behind them and it worked.

one thing, their defense was very fast in the back 7. they were swarming and limiting RACs. our tackles suck. I mean really suck. there was a lot of confusion on the OL where the pressure was coming from and picking up the right guy blitzing. few times they waltzed in untouched.

on defense we just couldn't generate pressure with our front, against a weak, very weak OL. when JJ was pressured he made a lot of errant throws, but when he had time he waited for the recievers to get open and had some good throws. they kept rolling him out to one side or other to get him more time, which then should cue the defense to roll coverage and flood the area taking away passing zones but we didn't adjust.

we also had success running the ball but got away from it. we should have run some stretch plays and kept running a few more times to just tire out the front 7 and help slow the pass rush. it didn't feel like Schotty had a true plan in place to go 4 quarters.

on defense when we blitzed we had some success but Eberflus decided to just go back to his zone defense and rush, 3 or 4 and that just didn't work.

this was a big brain faart from coaches. to your point, neither were ready after 10 days. even Dak said we should have thrown more slants. but even when we tried a few times, the DBs were playing tight man and their pass rush was getting through very fast.

two first round picks and a 3rd round pick on the OL and we still struggled....

I am not sure why they keep insisting on playing Murray. nobody could be that bad. at this point I would bring back club foot Jaylon Smith and he can be better. I have never seen a LB this clueless. he keeps hitting the wrong holes, is always going in the wrong direction. always late.

We are a luke warm team. Fairweather team. All show, no meat on the bone. Poorly coached, poorly ran, crappy players that are constantly over hyped as talented. Media keeps telling us we have the talent. We've never seen it when it matters. Time to change out flus and the players. Shotty I like alot. But I'm putting him on a short leash now. These last 3 games with him is his last chance. As far as Flus, gawd he should have been fired right after that Bears debacle. There was no reason to keep him.
