I dont understand how anyone could feel confident about the home game against the Raiders...let alone on the road against the Giants. I wouldn't be shocked if we lost by 20.

This is a really bizarre game to get a read on. Cowboys/Giants is always a crapshoot. Throw in how bad the Giants have been most of this season, and how injured the Cowboys are, and that they're on the road. Good luck picking.

I do agree that the more the week wears on--and the more talking the Giants do--the better I feel about things. But that's just a feeling. It does bum me out how much how many of our fans have already packed it in, though. That's not a criticism of anybody in particular, but this is a huge, huge game for this season, and with half our defense coming back, this one ought to be a near toss-up. At least the line indicates that the money expects it to be a close game. It's a bummer that almost every other thread on the board feels like a funeral home.

On that note, thanks, OP, for a nice positive topic.

Man, I sure hope that around 8PM on Sunday there arent a bunch of very mad / sad Cowboys fans on this board. (myself included) There seems to be an awful lot of confident fans on here.

Who knows if we win or not. Does it even matter?

I suspect it will come down to the eagles game. Win and were in. Lose and we go home. In PHILLY.

Yeah............

And even if we pull that miraculous outcome off.........we gotta go play the "good" teams then.....

The funny thing is that in past years, it was the Cowboys who were talking and the media was applauding the Giants for keeping quiet while saying that its what a confident team does.

When did the Giants ever keep quiet?

I have a very good feeling about this game. There are a lot of reasons to not have a good feeling about this game. The saints loss, 5-5 again, JG is winless off the bye, Lee etc... I just think that we always manage to be in a position to beat the Gnats at the end of the day. Even when we were getting blown out we managed to come back to within a Dez fingertip of winning. I honestly believe they just don't have the horses on defense to run with Romo and this offense. Now do we have the horses to keep up with Eli? I think its going to be an up and down day for the defense, with Brown having a nice day on the ground against us. But I fully expect some big plays from the secondary. Do I dare go with a MO pick and a Church forced fumble, I think so.

the better I feel about our chances. We are not as good as the team that beat the Rams, and not as bad of a team that got spanked by the Saints. As the week goes on, I get a feeling that we will come out and play inspired football. Awful quiet at the ranch, and I like that.

I think the Giants see a fragile team teetering on the precipice of a season-ending collapse.

And this is their attempt to push the Cowboys over that edge.

After the debacle in New Orleans, I can see why they would.

As to whether their tactic will be successful? Who knows?

We'll have to wait until Sunday to find out.

I disaggree. Jimmy Johnson used it as a phychilogical tactic.
I think it worked.

Great coaches find ways to get an entire team on the same page, and one of the tools for doing so is public talking. It's a tool that has to be used sparingly and in the right circumstances, though.
The Giants do a lot of talking, no matter what. Sometimes that helps you. It can work against you if you then don't walk the walk early and your performance doesn't meet with the expectations you set.

Not talking can be effective, too, if you let the other team's noise focus you. No way to know, really, until the game starts. I'm a fan of either method, as long as we win.

The giants are living in the past thinkin they're on a late season SB run again.

The giants are living in the past thinkin they're on a late season SB run again.

Or trying to. Hard to blame them, when it's worked twice recently with--on paper--teams weaker than their competition. It's a tall order, even for Giants, this season. They ultimately don't have a very competitive team.

Its all about the d-line geting preasure. If eli sits back with time they will get torched.

Yeah, that's my worry. I don't have any feel at all about this game, it's hard to get a read on either team right now. But the backup brigade on the d-line needs to step it up and get some pressure. If they can't, with linebackers who struggle to hold their part in coverage, it'll make it too easy for Eli, even if he hasn't been exactly lighting it up this year. If I was a betting man, I think I'd just pass on this game.

Extremely difficult to be positive when you have one of the worst defenses in the history of professional football.

they had better be focused...losing this game would be REALLY bad....a game behind the eagles and tied with the formerly 0-6 giants?

Yes, but surprisingly, we'd still control our own destiny. Must win? Maybe not, but it's a "would be really, really, really nice to win" game.

I don't think so. They can be as confident as they want, doesn't mean they are better than they are.

Actually, a team playing with confidence IS better than that same team whose confidence has been shaken. You trust your teammates more to do their jobs and can therefore focus solely on your job. I've played on both types of teams and it's hard to put a finger on it, but a confident team plays with far more cohesiveness. And they're probably in a much better place mentally, knowing they're only one game out of the division lead. They are going to be hell bent on not wasting all the effort they've put in over the last four weeks to get back into this thing. There really is something to be said for that thing called "momentum."

It's not the end of the world mathematically if we lose this game, but this is as big a game as we've had yet this season. Certainly the biggest since the PHI game last month.

And for no other reason than avoiding the cacophony alone, I dearly want to sweep the Giants. I can't imagine this place around here next week if we drop this one. Beating them makes the December push look a lot more interesting and will make CZ a lot more fun than another road loss, this time to a division opponent would.
