The most defining moment this season

Ending a season like this is always a major bummer, but I just refuse to place all the blame on BP for this teams season ending again for the 2nd yr. without a playoff appearance.

The popular belief seems to be that "we should have opened up the offense more, and taken more chances."

Well the bottom line is that this team, for the majority of the season, outside of a couple games, simply had no relevant running game.. plain and simple.

We all knew what BP wanted to do, and saw his plan start to become relevant during pre-season when he added A-Train, and drafted MB3, to give JJ plenty of help, and add some tremendous depth at the position.

I dont think there was a fan around that claims to know anything about this team, or football in general, that didnt realize that this team was gearing up to be a grind it out in the trenches style of football that BP loves to employ.

The theory was great, the running game looked to be a strength going in.

Bringing in Rivera, as fans we had high hopes for this OL, and what we might achieve offensively this year with a strong ground game.

I think after looking back, if I had to pick the moment that this team lost its season, had to be when Flo went down with the ACL/MCL,
that had to be the defining moment that affected this teams chemistry more than anything else IMHO.

We all wittnessed just how important our LT was, and maybe even realized how much for granted we took Flo, for the past few seasons.

Adams loss, changed the whole dynamics of this offense, which in the end became a barrier too steep to overcome.

Bledsoe could no longer take a 7 step drop, which is a "lifetime" for a QB in terms of checking off the defense and finding his open target.

Peyton was now changing this offense and altering Bledsoes 7 step drop to a 3 step, and he was on his back and harrassed in every game because of it.

I wanted in to the playoffs as much as anyone else, but anytime you have to root for the Eagles, for help, you know theres just something wrong. Thats just the way it goes, but I remain highly optimistic about the direction this club is taking.

We have alot of talented youth on this team, esp. on the defense, and we have plenty of time now to discuss the draft and FA.

The RUN blocking was LOUSY before Flo went down. It was never very good except in about 2 games all season long. I blame not just the players- BUT THE COACHING. We did a better job last year with less talent.

I recall that before the season started the big debate was....who could we not afford to lose the most. Many of us said Flo and now we know why. Nice post.

I felt exactly the opposite at the time of Flos' injury.

Seemed to me that the OL was coming together and starting to gell, every week
the OL seemed a little more coordinated and improved cohesively.

You cant even begin to make the arguement that the OL was better off without him.

The defining moment of this season happened in the off season. The Bledsoe signing doomed the Cowboys to mediocrity for the duration of Parcells' tenure.

Agreed. Before Flozell went down we were 4-2 after we went 5-5.... 4-2 is one game from being 3-3. We werent that good with Flozell in there... I remember reading posts about what is going on with the "Larry & Flo" show? people werent liking the results that the 2 behemoths were providing

< still a fan 40 years now >

I'm going on 46 becuase I started in 1960. This gives me the right to rant and rave and throw tantrums about everybody from the owner to the waterboy. But when the dust settles I am still a Cowboys fan.

As far as "defining moments" go

pick one

  1. going for it on 4th and 1 and not making it(forget the game, was early into season)
  2. losing Flozell didnt help
  3. losing to skins first time
  4. seattle game
  5. giants game 1st and 2nd time
  6. broncos game
  7. Commanders 2nd time was just a slap and to let us know we aint going anywhere this year... props to Gibbs...
  8. Julius not able to gain positive yardage
  9. Bledsoe with poor decisions(seattle game
  10. kickers aint kicking
