The most impressive player throughout the game was B.W. Webb. He was frequently in perfect position in coverage and left little room for the Ravens receivers. He even provided blanket coverage on Steve Smith for a few plays, which was splendid.

The most disappointing player had to be Terrance Mitchell. Throughout the game, he was inconsistent with his footwork and technique, which allowed opposing receivers to create the separation necessary to make some catches.

J.J. Wilcox and Barry Church seemed to have a respectable night as well. Wilcox made a great play to knock the ball out of Steve Smith's hand for a would-be first down in the second quarter. That is the type of play the Cowboys need Wilcox to make throughout the regular season.

BW has been beat up by the 'Know" more times than i can remember...who has the real 411 or is this bias?

Bleacher report..

I absolutely loved that play. We've been missing those types of results for years on D.

I think he can easily be serviceable in the right role with good players around him and a scheme that plays to his strengths.

Yeah, I think we all get the lack of physicality with Webb. The coaches know it, Webb knows it, and the fans know it. Webb's only chance at a roster spot in the NFL is in coverage. Hey, if he can cover, at this point, I'll take it and be happy. I doubt if we are going to turn Webb into something he isn't. We got the hitters in the secondary with Church, Wilcox, and Dixon. We need some guys who can cover, especially in the pass-happy, flag-happy NFL.

The player Webb has to watch out for is T Mitchell. One of them probably won't be around when OScan returns.

corners who can't or are afraid to tackle get smashed and ruin plays ALOT ie mike Jenkins I don't know how many times they ran to his side in the redzone cuz they knew he had no intention on making a 1on1 tackle

In the type of defense Dallas currently employs, a great deal of responsibility is placed upon the CBs to defend against the run. BW Webb simply hasn't been anything approaching acceptable in performing that function. His pass coverage is better but really not anything to get too excited about. He tends to come out second best when the ball is being contested by bigger and much more physical wideouts. His lack of size and physicality hasn't been working out too well for him overall in the NFL. He'll possibly be retained past the final cuts but as soon as Scandrick returns, either himself or Mitchell might be released. I think it'll be B.W.

well it's a good thing you're questioning your eyes because acknowledging there's a problem is the hardest part..

BW Webb did not have anything even resembling a decent game vs. the Ravens, or NFL career for that matter

I disagree. In rewatching the game, Webb had good coverage and did not give up much. He looked far better in this one than Terrance Mitchell.

Webb actually played ok this week, yeah. Still, that's about his high-water mark for here in Dallas. I don't think it helps him in the end.

I don't know. At this point, I have him making the roster ahead of Mitchell and Patmon. Mitchell in particular hasn't looked all that good. Webb has been mostly invisible, which isn't a bad thing for a corner. Patmon probably has looked better than Mitchell, too.

My corners would be at this point: Carr, Claiborne, (Scandrick), Moore, Webb and either Mitchell or Patmon. I like Mitchell's attitude, but his coverage has been lacking. I think he might just be too physical for the way they will be calling games this year. Maybe a move to safety eventually should be considered.

The Jacques Reeves comparison someone made concerning Webb might be fairly accurate, but there is a place for those types of players over ones who can't at least remain step for step with receivers. You hope for better than that, but when you're talking about your fourth or eventually fifth corner, that's usually what you get along with special teams.

I haven't seen in the preseason games what the training camp reports re: Mitchell have indicated, either. He's looked really pedestrian to me. I did think Patmon looked good on Sat, and would like to see more from him.
I want to be fair to Webb, because he's a player I've been down on and haven't really ever seen anything from when it mattered. Other than the botched punt return on Sat, he wasn't really heard from...which is a good thing for a CB, and especially good for a team that's got the injury issues there that we've got right now. He wouldn't make my team, though. I'd go with both Patmon and Mitchell over him, even if with Mitchell it's just because I think he's on the right track and that his approach will pay off eventually.
Either way, though, these guys still have a lot of football in front of them before we get to cut downs. The picture will probably change dramatically between now and then for at least one of them.
