The most optimistic I've been about a season since 2007

If we can stay healthy, this is a Super Bowl caliber team. I don't care if that is too much of a homerrific thing to say or not. Based on the talent and the improved coaching and leadership and the hunger that our team is showing, we can make the Super Bowl without question.

Consider this my Jimmy Johnson guarantee. I'll bring this thread back up in February to prove my amazing Nostradamusness to all you doubting Tom's.

Unless I'm wrong, then I'll let this sucker fade away into obscurity.

Im a ton more optimistic than I thought I would be for this season. But I just have this bad feeling that wont go away. I was saying the other day to people we have a sb caliber team. But ive thought that before so I dont know. Just want the real games to start so we can really see what we have developed here. I see no reason why we can compete for a sb the next 4 years even with the nfc stacked as it is.

Every season ends the same for this team. And every time I say I'm not gonna get excited about this team, this part of the year rolls around I get optimistic all over again. And each time I get suckered. Sorry for the pessimism but I wasn't old enough to take in the glory days of the 90's, all I've seen is the struggle.

I'm always optimistic, I was actually probably more optimistic last season. I thought Romo was gonna turn over a new leaf in his style of play, not quality. I'm not sure that happened last year, or ever will.

I was more confident about the 2009 team. Had them finishing 11-5 and winning the East; possible superbowl team.

I see them(2013) being a very good 11-5 or a very bad 5-11. I don't see another 8-8 season.

Truth is, if the team last year would have stayed healthy, they were probably a 10-6 or 11-5 team and would have made it to the playoffs. And I think this year's version is even better than last year's.

Can't put any losses last year on health. They choked a game against the Giants and did the same vs. Baltimore and NO. The only teams that flat out beat them last year were the Commanders (twice), Chicago, Seahawks, and Falcons. 3 of those games were not even close.

Six or seven of our best players were hurt for most of or large portions of the season. Yes, you can put some losses last year on health.

Which losses would you put on health? The Seahawks beat the brakes off them. Romo tossed 5 INT's in the Bears loss. Ravens..you miss a FG to win the game. Which games are you honestly pointing to and saying if we were 100% healthy we win? If this team could execute, close games, and show up on a week to week basis they would've made the playoffs regardless of injury.

i really think with lee and carter we could have split with the Commanders and beat the saints. Vs the saints the defense had so many holes over the middle.

Everything in every game changes if a team has their best players on the field. Would the Ravens game had been so close and needed to come down to a field goal? Would the Seahawks have beaten the brakes off them? Would Romo have thrown 5 INT's (most weren't his fault, by the way) in the Bears loss?

My point is, we were missing a large chunk of our very best players for most of the season. Our defense especially was decimated. Losing that many people does hurt your team, period. You will be affected in the W/L column.

And even with all of that that said..this team still had a chance at the playoffs with about 5 mins left in the last game of the season. But I guess Bruce Carter or Sean Lee would've made sure that play didnt happen.

the joy of fandom, hell why cheer for a team if you think they will suck and you have no hope anyway

I guess you didnt read the part where I said every year I'm optimistic (there goes point A), and each year I get suckered by the end result (your answer to point B).

Oh, I suppose you're right... A starting RB, a couple starting offensive linemen, an All-Pro caliber middle linebacker, and a rising star at LB probably wouldn't have made any difference in any losses. Why even resign those guys? They obviously have no bearing on the outcome of any games.

I thought I was referring to the last game.

Im psyched for this season as well. We all should be, we have a lot of reasons to be optimistic.
1. There is no one in the division that really scares me. The skins will have to overcome RG3's recovery. The eagles have a new coach and Vick never lasts the season. The Giants are our biggest threat but Eli is inconsistent in the regular season and they are as up and down as any team in the NFL.
2. We have a solid core of elite players on this team. Romo, Dez, Witten, Lee, Carter, Ware could all have pro bowl caliber talent and we have a ton of other guys to look out for like Demarco, Austin, Carr, Claiborne ect. The depth at skill positions is a serious luxury.
3. We are hungry and even though some people don't support JG I think he will have this team ready to play. Count me in on people who think Callahan calling the plays will help game management.
4. The offensive line will likely be much better this season. Smith has a season at LT under his belt and all indications are that TFred will help solidify the middle. We seem to have some depth to rotate around as well.
5. Special teams are solid. No serious concerns at K or P and Dez and Dwayne Harris are great return men.

You look around the league and then come back and look at our team and you really got to like our chances this year.

That is why i've said that I just don't think we'll ever get over the hump with Garrett and Romo if they come out and are a sloppy team all season.

This has to be a big year for us. We are primed and ready.

You're right. Our roster was decimated and we were 1 game from winning the division.

Everyone loves the Saints this year and they have one of the worst defenses i've seen the last couple years.
