the New England Patriots!!!

There was an earlier thread about the most overrated coach in the NFL being Bill Bilichick. Part II of that thread focuses on the Patriots as a team. For the last 5 years, most prognosticators have picked the Patriots to win the SuperBowl and with good reason. They won 3 out of 4 SuperBowls while tying the same mark held by our beloved Cowboys.

Currently, the Patriots are a much different team than they were during their Superbowl run. Sure, they still have Tom Brady who is an above average QB, but he is also overrated. However, they have lost the prolific coaching staff that Bilichick inherited from Bill Parcells. They have also lost several of their star players and veteran leaders including Ty Law, Willie McGinist, and Adam Vinatieri.

In my humble opinion, Vinatieri was their true MVP, not Brady. It was Vinatieri who kicked the winning field goal in several of their playoff and SuperBowl victories because Brady couldn't lead them into the endzone. And what do the Patriots do this offseason but let him walk right into the waiting arms of their chief rival, the Colts.

I said it here last year and I'm saying it again this year: Stick a fork in the Patriots because they are DONE!! Every year they fail to make a deep run in the playoffs will only futher underscore how much Parcells contributed to Bilichick's success. That means the Cowboys will play the Colts in the SuperBowl baby!!

I honestly hate the Patriots, but to call Tom Brady only an above average quarterback is ridiculous. I don't care what you say anyone who leads a team to three super bowls has to be considered much more than an above average quaterback. I dont care if the rest of Brady's career is terrible he will still be considered for the hall of fame for what he has already accomplished....

I agree that the Patriots are done, but not really along the same line of reasoning (overall).

Add to your list the Panthers.

Seriously what has Brady done? Yeah the kicker is the key to everything. A football team is nothing without the kicker. Cortez, Cundiff, and Suisham are pretty much the main reason for our 9 wins last year I can tell you that much. Thank God for them.

I hate the Pats and Brady, but you have to give them their due. They had a great run. It probably is over because of football's salary cap, etc but it was a great run.

As for Brady, most qb's that win SB's tend to get caught up in the moment and to fall off. Ask Warner, Johnson, Dilfer, etc. Brady continued to improve which was impressive. He will continue to be a good qb but for a bad team going forward, imho.

The CAP takes no prisoners. Ask the Cowboys, 9ers, etc.

Ah......I have to disagree......they are pretty solid organization and their record recently speaks for itself.

The thing that gets me is that now every player the Patriots pick in the draft is instantly called a great pick (mostly by Peter King). We got blown up for the Hatcher pick, but he would have been called the steal of the draft if the Patriots had picked him a few spots later.

I guess the Cowboys and Troy were overrated in the 90's?

Sorry, the pats won and their, and Brady's, record speaks for itself.

The Pats overrated? You are incorrect. I think the gnats and 4skins are in for an extreme disappointment this year.

I'm going to second that.

Right now they are going through a roster reshuffle.
Filling in with the drafted players and some vets.

Some big name players and coaches have left.

They are a soild organization and will recover.
The only CAP problems they may have is Brady's numbers in the coming years.

I disagree. bilicheck explored the smallest weaknesses of opposing teams and used them to his advantage. in today's NFL the name of the game is parity and those small little things make a big difference. I think Brady is like Montana or Aikman. he sees the field so well and he is very accurate in his throws. I don't call him over rated. I call him under rated.

I think the most over rated team is pittsburgh and philly. Pitt had a nice run last year and I think Roth is a bit over rated playing in a power running attack offense. Philly is also over rated, because they win in the regular season and flounder in the post season. they had 6 easy wins for several years (call it luck) against NFC east teams and that helped them to get to post season. That's not the case any more. I think Philly is a soft team and when they get punched in the mouth, they fold.

If the Pats are over rated then I guess that makes the 60's packers, 70 steeler, 80's 49ers and yes the 90's Cowboys all over rated. The Pats did what very few teams have ever accomplished and regardless if a person likes the Pats or not does not take 1 single thing away from what they have accomplished as a team. They did not do it with smoke and mirrors they accomplished what they did because they were one of the best teams in the game.

The guy went a little voerboard on the BRady angle, but seriously, he's talking about THIS year, people. Not the past 5. he's talking about how different they are than they were for their run - and I agree. The playmakers are all but gone, their LB corps get thinner and thinner with no replacements, the secondary doesn't improve.....they keep getting worse.

I think Pats are still a team you have to get ready to go out and play very well to beat them. I agree they are not as good as they were but then that is how the league is now days with FA and Salary caps and their desire for parity. I don't see them being the odds on favorite to make the SB but then I think the Pats will stay in the thick of the playoff race.

Brady has become the NFL prototype at QB for his generation like Elway was for the Baby Boomers.

Smart, accurate, decisive, charismatic, clutch, with the ability to elevate his teammates and not just drive the bus. Notice I didn't mention any of the terms cannon-armed, tall, or mobile; we're talking Joe Montana all over again.

Brady's what the NFL is all about and so are the Patriots; my hat's off to them.

The most overrated team is the Arizona Cardinals. The posted a bad record in a horrible division, but are somehow expected to compete for a playoff spot. Some experts even expect this team to give Seattle a run for the division title! Minnesota and Detroit are also overrated. You can also include Miami and Jacksonville to the list of overrated teams.

I am going to have to say the Dallas Cowboys this year - everyone is picking them exteremely high for a team with a shoddy offensive line.
