The Nerve of This Guy: Cowboys’ Jaylon Smith on 'Mike and Mike’ show
http://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/201...y-cowboys-jaylon-smith-on-mike-and-mike-show/
...On learning from pro bowl LB Sean Lee…
“Sean’s a great guy. And for me, it’s just watching him, he’s so disciplined. He loves the game of football. So I’m definitely happy to be here.”
Aside from his injury, what will his greatest challenge in transitioning to the NFL be?
“It’s actually a huge privilege for me to be able to play in the NFL, but whenever you’re transitioning into a higher level of sport, the biggest difference is the speed of the game and it’s all about how fast can you learn the playbook and not just memorize what you do but actually understand the concepts. So for me being able to sit back, I get to learn every single thing; that way, when I come back everything’s at ease. The mental side, there’s people who went through injuries before, Sean Lee’s been through multiple knee injuries, so I have a great support system around me. I’m definitely not going through this alone.”
Smith isn’t simply sitting around waiting for the nerve to regenerate, either.

“There’s so much to prove. There’s so much room for improvement and growth. I’ve had this time to develop my mind and become a better man in this transition period to becoming a professional. For me now, it’s continuing to work hard and get my body back right and learn the playbook so when I come back everything will be at ease and I’ll be a dominant player again. Because of the magnitude of the program, everywhere you go in the country, in the world, they know the Dallas Cowboys and at the collegiate level they know Notre Dame, so I’m accustomed to being in the spotlight, if you will. But it’s a blessing just to be able to play this game that I love.”...
