They are humans and ones you give little credibility to handle such foolishness.

I watched Favre play after his father died and seriously doubt any amount of "negative media attention" would effect him. I watched Bryant the week after his infant SON died and seriously doubt any amount of "negative media attention" would effect him. I watched Romo play during his father's cancer scare. I can supply a helluva lot more if you'd like.

I know every player on this team has things that go on in their lives much more important to them than what TO says- yet they manage. If they were so "unfocused" as you and others state so often just because of the stupid crap TO says- they would be basketcases , unable to deal with anything when that is piled onto their plates.

So we can end the debate here. I give the players credit for being intelligent enough to sift through such foolishness, you think they lap this BS up like you and other fans do.
So, every player has the same mental focus as Favre and Bryant? Is that your argument, namely, that every player is the same?

Incredible.

"Basketcases?" You're being extreme. Even small distractions can affect your total focus. Are you trying to tell me that you have never been distracted during work at some point which did not cause you to, maybe, momentarily second-guess the next step you were going to undertake? If so, I apologize. You're perfect and nothing can cause you to make even the smallest slip-up.

You can end the debate. I understand that players do not live and perform in absolute vacuums, but you can keep thinking that by defending Owens that they do live and interact within an utopian environment.

Not at all. I'm saying players play through some of the worst things that can happen and don't lose focus yet you all believe their delicate psyches are ripped apart by negative press.

It's quite comical how little some think of a player.

Or some people (and I know a lot of them) use personal tragedies as motivation. Hmmmmm

I gotta' tell ya..................I'm 48 years old and own my own company. I of course worked for others a ton as well, so I see both perspectives.

I've been talked down to, praised, hired, fired, scolded and scolded others. I've been taken to the woodshed and have taken others to the woodshed. I've been unjustly accused of wrongdoing, and rightfully fired for not doing right by my employer. I've gotten a pay-check and made payroll for a decade. I've gossiped and have been gossiped about. I've had my name besmirched publicly and privately, and have been awarded praise publicly and privately.
I've taken my complaints to my Employer. I've voiced my complaints to my fellow employees. I've brought my complaints home to my family. And, I've complained about my employees both publicly and privately.

I've done and seen it all. And guess what?

Not a single company I've worked for as an employee, nor my own business has failed or shut down because of all this. And no one around me has allowed any of it to have an effect on coming to work the next day and earning a paycheck.

T.O. works for the Dallas Cowboys. If anyone in the organization is so thin-skinned and emotionally fragile that T.O. has an effect on their profession or ability to perform, then there's something wrong with that fellah.

Get over it. If you have to, ignore it. Something that those two children in Philly (Reid and Little Donny McNubb) couldn't do. If a guy like T.O. can play you like the fiddle he played those two idiots like, then the problem isn't T.O.

All you T.O. dismissers, one of your digs on him is that his immature and selfish, unthinking and a pest. That describes a 9 year old. If you allow a 9 year old to "get under your skin" and get you to react and "tap dance" around him, the problem ISN'T THE 9 YEAR OLD!! It's you..............

I'm saying if you are correct that they get "unfocused" by this TO stuff, then they have no chance because even if you remove TO they are still gonna have "unfocusing" things in their personal life that they will not be able to handle. And those things will mean more to them than any TO interview.

Wouldn't you agree?

You and I tease each other about T.O. And, you know I am a somewhat supporter of him, however, I have to admit that this year I've spoiled quite a bit about him. His abilities seem to shadow his emotions, and those emotions are not good at times, which will have an influence on some of the other players.

At this point in time, I would not care if he were gone. If he is such a distraction to the team, media, and us fans, then he needs to scoot. And, if it were at all possible with out salary cap issues, he would be a PERFECT example to this team if Jerry would come in and say, "T.O....hit the road!" How do you think that would wake up this team?

Also, I think that it was a mistake having 12, 13, probowlers last season because they came back this year thinking their **** don't stink...when it litteraly did! Some of those players, or maybe all of them, got big heads and thought that they were all that and then some!

If I were Jerry, or Wade :)puke: ) I would ask each and every player that if they don't want to be here, salary cap go to hell, then pack your bags and get out! Also, if I see that any player is a detriment to the team, percieved or not, star of not, your butt is outta here, salary cap go to hell!

Weed out the lawn, get rid of the pansys and daisys and start to grow a new green field with seeds that flurish.

Jimmy Johnson would have cut half of these morons his first year!

12, 13 probowlers, my butt!!
Keep on being yourself, 5Stars. I've always believed that you're strongly level-headed Cowboys fan through that sarcastic wit of yours, so keep teasing the heck out of me and I'll keep returning the favor. ;) :)

BTW, is there some kind of booby-prize for the most posts started by someone? What do I get?

Because I started this thread, and it's gonna' hit 300 posts any hour now!

I don't know if I should be sorry or proud about this. But I want a Dallas Cowboy soap-on-a-rope toy, or some Dallas Cowboy Vaseline, or a "Debbie Does Dallas" DVD...........................

Are you and your employees in the spotlight? On a national stage some how?
Do things you or any one who works for you say getting all sorts of air time?
There is a huge difference.

TO is done. End of story. Should have stayed with Philly. But HE could not share the spotlight and shut his mouth. Eagles fans must love this.

Not exactly. Lesser distraction = increased possibility of greater focus. Greater focus = the possibility of greater success both on and off the field (i.e. practice).

I'll repeat my stance on Owens the player (no Parcells pun intended) once more. He should shut up and only do his job. If he must address the media, he should give static answers or give the old Rosenhaus "Next question" response. The ramification of Owens being outspoken is the possibility that the media will create either a justifiable or unjustifiable agenda against him and, by association, the team itself.

It's not necessary. If everyone's goal is to remain focused on winning a championship, it should also be everyone's goal to do whatever is humanly possible to achieve that goal by not creating potential obstacles to interfere with their focus. Owens is an American. It is within his right to speak on any topic of his choosing, but IF he shares the same goal as (hopefully) the rest of the team, he will choose to NOT speak to the media simply because it pleases him.

I agree somewhat, however, TO is such a huge character, a standout player, a Star of sorts, that the young guys on the squad have to be influnced by him...and honestly, this year, his influence has not been that great.

If you have 6 or 7 kids in your family that are always rowdy and you let them get away with it...what do you have? If you had enought of it and took one and spanked the hell out of him in front of the others...I'm sure that would influence the behavior of the other kids.

Also, TO may not be the only one that is causing trouble, but, even for all his play on the field (which I'm not so sure about anymore) it might be tme for a good butt kicking...?

No their isn't.

These are big boys who got through college (or some college) and sat through the mandatory rookie "behave yourself and think like this" drill.

I'm telling you right now, as a matter of fact...........if I were ever as talented or fortunate enough to be able to play in the NFL, I would guard and protect and cherish that privilege with every fiber of my being.

The LAST THING that would put my career in jeopardy would be the words, behavior, or play of a team mate. The "selfish", take-care-of-my-own-business card would be played 24/7. T.O. or no T.O.

If I were a second team line-backer for the Dallas Cowboys, what Owens says and how Owens acts would come in about #22 on the 20 most important things in my life. PERIOD. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. Because I would certainly recognize that I've been afforded a 1 in a million opportunity, and a once in a lifetime deal. Many, many, many things would get me fired from this deal looooooooooooong before Terrell Owens talking out loud to Deionne Sanders.

It would have ZERO impact on me trying to impress Jerry and other teams against my "free agency" time coming up..............

I agree with most of what you say. But you are wrong, only have to look to owens other two teams. These athletes do let what their teammates say bother them, enough to be huge distractions. That is fact in SF and Philly is it not?

If it were me? I doubt it would bother me. I rarely care what others think of me. Drives my wife crazy, I say what I think most times to who ever.

If I were in a different situation such as an NFL team, I would do things different.

Nah.........Uh uh, ain't buying it.

Lets examine exactly "who" got "impacted" by "T.O. Distractions":

Little Donny McNubb, Jeff Garcia, and..................ah, that's about it. Oh yeah, maybe Jerry Rice.

McNubb gets his and his mammy's little feelings hurt by anything less than "Praise McNabb". He's been whining over the media, fans, ownership, coaches, team mates,etc............whatever since he's been in the league. And, he plays the "you booed me on draft day" card ever since. So screw him.

Rice? In the top 5 of pampered and spoiled little-brat, "better walk on egg shells around Jerry" in the history of the league.

Garcia? Who cares. If not for lucky retirements or injury, he's a replacement, second team guy all day long. He don't matter.

If I busted my butt at Arizona State for four years and was drafted by the Cowboys and was a "special team" ace............trust me, the LAST THING that's going to screw up this deal is what the "star" wide receiver thinks, says or acts out. My "chemistry" thing or "team" thing, and especially my free-agency money isn't going "down the tubes" because I'm somehow unable to focus on my job because of T.O.!!!!!!
Ain't gonna' happen. If I'm the QB, RB, LG, DE, or MLB, no way I'm going back to bagging groceries because my little two-bit brain can't "concentrate" because T.O. talked to Deionne Sanders.
And I'm just a little old painting contractor in Hawaii. Even I get it. What do you think a guy who's barely hanging on like Bobby Carpenter is thinking. What T.O. says or does is the least of his worries.

So please, take some salt off of this lame "he's a distraction" gambit. If you're Ken Hamlin, the least of your worries is T.O. talking to the press.

Jerry is more concerned with selling the cowboys brand.

Not winning games.
That is a good point I also think Jerry is more concerned with the cowboys brand.

Well, that's all good and stuff because you are you and are a little older and in a profession that is not seen by millions.

However, the people around TO are very young impressionable kids that might look up to him in order to follow his lead and become "someone great" so that they "can love them some them"!

You cannot use how you would react to base on how a much younger wide eyed kid might react. And, even the veterans will react, although it might be in disgust...which does not contribute to the team concept.

You've been around for 11,556 posts, and counting.

You've been around.

Lets take your "youth" point, and discuss Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.

Who's any younger on this team? Who's more "impressionable"? Whose "just getting their feet wet" more than these two? NOBODY, that's who.

Now, with Marion Barber supposedly settled in as the starter for the foreseeable future, if you're one of these two guys, you gotta' be thinking about your performance, your job, and what you gotta' do in the near future to "leap frog" ahead of the other guy and become firmly entrenched as a part of this team. Even if Dallas somehow keeps all three of these guys via some miracle the next five years, you wanna' do all you can do just to make sure.

Now honestly, with this agenda in front of you.........everything you busted you butt for your whole life..........the chance of a lifetime............do or die.................this is MY TIME.........etc, etc, etc,.............

No matter what your age or experience in this league, do you honestly think that T.O. spouting off to Mortensen or complaining on the sidelines is anywhere NEAR the top ten of things going on in your life? Honestly? I want you to tell me, here in front of all these posters, that Choice or Jones is going to allow what you call a "distracting side-show" to impact all that they have worked so hard for..........

There goes your "impressionable youth" argument.
