Listed below are the NFL head Coaches and the year they joined their current team as the Head Coach. Every year the Coaching carousel turns and I wondered which coaches you thought would step down or be escorted out the door and why. Here's the list, share your opinions.

NFC East

Cowboys, Parcells, 2003
Giants, Coughlin, 2004
Eagles, Reid, 1999
Commanders, Gibbs, 2004

NFC North

Bears, Smith, 2004
Lions, Maranelli, 2006
Packers, McCarthy, 2006
Vikings, Childress, 2006

NFC South

Falcons, Mora, 2004
Panthers, Fox, 2002
Saints, Payton, 2006
Buccaneers, Gruden, 2002

NFC West

Cardinals, Green, 2004
49ers, Nolan, 2005
Rams, Linehan, 2006
Seahawks, Holmgren, 1999

AFC East

Bills, Jauron, 2006
Dolphins, Saban, 2005
Patriots, Belichick, 2000
Jets, Mangini, 2006

AFC North

Ravens, Billick, 1999
Bengals, Lewis, 2003
Browns, Crennel, 2005
Steelers, Cowher, 1992

AFC South

Texans, Kubiak, 2006
Colts, Dungy, 2002
Jaguars, Del Rio, 2003
Titans, Fisher, 1994

AFC West

Broncos, Shanahan, 1995
Chiefs, Edwards, 2006
Raiders, Shell, 2006
Chargers, Schottenheimer, 2002

Okay, NFC Head Coaches I think are on the hot seat are Tom Coughlin, John Fox, Jon Gruden, Denny Green, and Mike Holmgren. I think Green is gone. I think Coughlin will be if the Giants miss the playoffs. I think the others are safe. The only NFC Head Coach I think could retire is Parcells. I doubt he will, but you just don't know with him. Gibbs has already said he'll be back in 2007, so I don't include him.

AFC Head Coaches on the hot seat are Marvin Lewis for the off the field stuff, amazingly enough Tony Dungy, and though he's only had 1 year, Art Shell. Before the season got under way I'd have said Brian Billick and Marty Schottenheimer too. I think they are all safe. I do think Cowher could step down, but it would shock me.

I think this could be the slowest Head Coach Carousel ever and it's most because the last 3 years have had so much turnover. My guess is 2 jobs minimum and 5 maximum.

What are your thoughts?

Coach Coughlin and Coach Green and Coach Gruden are the only ones i see in trouble, Coach Holmgren has a team that has battled injuries all year 8-6 and in lead of the NFC West

Jim Mora's seat is awfully toasty as well.

Green is gone at the end of the season, and Coughlin is in trouble. I don't think any other coaches are in danger. Cowher will probably step down at the end of the year.

Yeah, I forgot to mention his little UW "joke." If they miss the playoffs he could get the gate too.

I agree. I think he is gone if/when they don't make the playoffs.

Coughlin will probably survive one more season.

My dark horse for losing their job is Shanahan. If they fail to make the post season, maybe he gets canned.

Thanks. I went to look up the spelling of his name and forgot to add him.

Believe it or not, there's lots of grumbling down here about the job Nick Saban has turned in during his first 2 years. Fans are sick of the slow starts, and the sports radio airwaves have been bristling over the fact that the Fins low-balled Brees in the offseason even though Miami was his apparent first choice.

Jim Mora is a good coach. Arthur Blank would have to be a moron to fire him, but the rumors are everywhere around here that the entire coaching staff will be dismissed if the Falcons fail to reach the playoffs again.

You left Mora of Atlanta off the list of those in trouble. There has been some injuries but Mora has made some mistakes not only including father's comment re Vick being a "coach killer" but also Mora's own interview re head coaching job at Washington.

Very surprised if Gruden goes. Despite his team playing poorly this year (poor QB play/aging defense/cap problem, Glazers won't quickly forget he brought a SB win to Tampa & a desperate ownership/fan base in his very first year as head coach. Also now looking like he may have find his future QB in Rattay (sp?) so he'll get some more time to produce. Besides he still a highly valid head coach and no body else as could as he they can get.

Living here in Tampa, I don't follow the Card situation. They always seem to be on the cusp of a winning season but always (at least for most of last 20 years) alters. Don't know how bad Cards were when Green took over, but think it possible his new QB could save him for another year & unless they have somebody in mind they really want (doesn't look like big turnover year in coaching to me), he probably got at least 50/50 chance to keep his job.
Agree Shell will be gone; he was a poor hire anyway but then Davis is a poor owner.

Don't see much of a turnover this year. As you point out there so many changes made in last 2 years that I think those coaches deserve more time. BTW: Reading at least one Giants' fan board, I'd say they want him gone or at least his offense/defense coordinators.

How about GMs? Top of the list should be Matt Millen in Detroit.

What is the deal with the Lions? Why is Kitna still the starting QB? I think McKown should be the starter the last two games of the sesaon. He should have been starting for a while now. What was the point of signing a young QB if he isn't going to play. They have to figure out their future and there is no guarantee they will be in position to draft Brady Quinn. They may be able to get Calvin Johnson, WR this draft. Yes, another WR. :D

Gotta agree. Millen should be axed. He's horrible.

Mongo needs to go

I think Green and Coughlin are both gone. If Marvin Lewis was let go he'd sure look good on our sidelines as a DC.
