Can someone explain to me what was different about the catch from last night vs. the non catch from you-remember-when?

Both times the ball was caught, both times two steps were taken, both times it came out after impact with the ground.

I was thinking the same thing.

It was tough to see from the angle but I believe that Sensabaugh knocked the ball lose after Dez had showed possession. Had the ball popped out on its own then the goofy rule about not maintaining possession to the ground would came into play.

The first ball came loose after direct contact with the ground......this one cam loose after Dez lunged and rolled over, as he was getting up the defender finally knocked it loose......a significant period of time passed after hitting the ground

IIRC yesterday Dez had control of the ball and rolled out of bounds so the play was over at that point.

Pretty significant difference between the two

One was made in a Divisional Playoff game which would've put the Cowboys in the NFL Championship game against a team they had already beaten in the regular season at home with a chance to go to a Super Bowl.

The other was a meaningless preseason game.

Dean knows EXACTLY what he's doing.

The phrases used to explain the differences were "significant amount of time," "football move" and "showed possession." Thats the problem with the rule, all of that language is open to interpretation as well. Its like defining a word with the word. How do you define "Obscenity?" Something that is obscene. Still, everyone has a different idea what it is.

Good points. But cant we just throw some passes to Dez that don't have to be near the sidelines? Geesh 2 catches, two close plays.

I bet they called Blandino and tried to find a way to overturn it. After so many years the NFL is still trying to justify their mistake.

Also wouldn't mind you explaining the difference between the Dez catch and the Fitzgerald catch last playoffs

His Superman catch against the Eagles was reviewed and the defender poked it out a bit after the play.

I explained the Fitzgerald catch several months ago. Fitz caught the ball then "turned up field" before he lost the ball and they deemed that a football move. Just watched Dez's TD catch yesterday and he caught the ball, had full control as the ball crossed the plane and the ball didn't come loose until after he scored and was out of bounds. It "appeared" the defender got a hand in and helped knock the ball loose after Dez had already scored.
