Thinking Kellen Moore, with a few years in the NFL, some under Linehan, and having been on the Practice squad nearly 3 weeks.........We will see what they think of him I guess.

Forgot about him. That is a viable option after BW screws up.

Championship!

Moderators if this does not go here please move..

I think we are going to trade for a QB since our Romo window is closing and we may or may not have Weeden after this year.. and here is who i think they should target.

In no order:

Colt McCoy, Commanders
Matt Barkley, Cardinals
Drew Stanton, Cardinals
Taylor Heinicke, Vikings
Mike Glenon, Bucs
Zack Mettenberger, Titians
Case Keenum, Rams

Currently we have given out our 5, 6, and 7th round pics in other trades, so its going to take a 4th and i don't know which of the above warrant that. Me if i was GM it would be Mettenberger..

Glennon is a guy I wanted in the offseason

Moore was a good college QB and seemed to have a decent arm. I do not know what happened with his time in Detroit though.

So I hope someone with a much better knowledge of QB Showers and NFL offensive style viability can expound on this or squash my idea, but does it make sense over the course of the next 8 games or so to bring Showers as a mobile QB and run some pass-run options with him? We have extremely mobile RBs in Dunbar and Randle who are very good receivers.

I just wonder if a handful of plays a game if it would make sense to get creative since Weeden will be fairly limited to the pocket.

Here's an article about it, and don't shoot the messenger, I'm only quoting it. It's suggesting:

Free agents/practice squad
· Kellen Moore: The Cowboys signed him to the practice squad after he was released by the Lions. He does seem like the most likely candidate for a call up.
· Jameill Showers: Currently on the practice squad, but didn't show enough in preseason where he could handle things if Weeden goes down.
· Jon Kitna: It may sound crazy, but the 42-year old knows the system and has come out of retirement for the 'Boys before. However, he's the head coach of a local Dallas area high school, so this one seems unlikely.
· Kyle Orton: Again, knows the system as he was once a Cowboys backup.
· Caleb Hanie: Last in the Cowboys system in 2014
· Christian Ponder: Former first-round pick from the Dallas area. Played four seasons in Minnesota before signing to the Raiders practice squad where he was then released.
· Rex Grossman: Veteran quarterback who may have something left in the tank
· Tim Tebow: Please, no.

Trades
· Robert Griffin III: The Commanders aren't too pleased with their former first-round pick. It might be a smart move for the future if RGIII can figure it out with a fresh start, but he is a little pricy for a trade.
· Mike Glennon: Backing up Jameis Winston in Tampa. He's already been through a few systems and has done considerably well on a few horrible teams.
· Zach Mettenberger: Marcus Mariota is the guy in Tennessee now and Mettenberger can still sling it. He's young and could be an option later down the road. His contract is through 2017 and he's very affordable.

When I look at the list, there's one name whom I despise for how he treated the team, but who has the best skills to help it and that's Kyle Orton. Like I said, I can't stand the guy. He committed fraud against Jerry. On the other hand, he does have good skills and he knows the system. Jon Kitna stands out somewhat on the list, but let's face it. He's 42 now.

I think they bring in a vet
Moore obviously has very little experience to be on the PS

We're fortunate to face a couple of subpar defenses in the next 2 weeks. It's not like last year where he has to face a nasty D like Arizona right off the bat.

Moore will get promoted to the 53

While Moore is intriguing I just looked up his stats and he has never thrown an NFL pass outside of PS.

If it were me, I would go sell Orton to come back for one year. I know he screwed us, etc but he's our best shot of getting to the playoffs until Romo comes back.

Now would be the time to try to land a Mettenburger or Glennon for the future. The problem is, it's unlikely either the Bucs or Titans would part with them right now and
both will be highly sought this coming offseason.

Glennon is a guy I wanted in the offseason

A couple of teams, including the Browns, tried to trade for Glennon this offseason and Tampa would not trade him. I don't think they are 100% convinced about Winston yet and Glennon has play very well his first two years in the league, in spite of his surroundings.

That's because he plays for Tennessee and it's hard to win there. He's 6'5 240 with a big arm and experience in a pro offense. Completed 60% of his passes last year as a rookie. He's everything you want in a backup. He's one of the best backups in the league. He will be someone's starting QB eventually.

I agree. You could kill two birds with one stone here, acquire someone like Mettenberger and let him start learning the offense, not just for this year, but for that day when Romo is officially done.

If any Moore was going to start for us, I'd rather it be Matt Moore, as unlikely as that is....
