When Free Agency started, between that and the draft, this is what Dallas needed just to stand pat, not to mention improve:

  • a disruptive, quality DT
  • a playmaking safety
  • Real investment in a backup QB
  • Offensive Line help at multiple positions
  • A starting caliber WR at least until Gallup is back
  • A pass rusher to take the heat off Micah
  • A kicker

And now 6 months later…. Maybe you have a kicker? TBD?

We knew in February, in May, and even in August that that Josh Ball as the swing tackle was a terrible idea. That there was a strong chance Steele at RT wouldn’t work. That Biadasz isn’t one of the better centers in the league. That Tyler Smith has penalty issues and could have rookie growing pains (though he was decent Sunday Night).

Dante Fowler is a 3rd string former bust. Sam Williams will need time. All dumping Gregory meant was more snaps for Dorance Armstrong.

Tampa Bay was gashing up the middle. The Bucs are not normally a productive run team, they were bottom 5 each of the last 2 years. How many other teams would Neville, Bohanna, and/or Osa actually start for? Single digit?

And backup QB. You’ve intently addressed it only twice in the last decade: Dak Prescott in 2016 and Andy Dalton in 2020; both were very smart. Not doing it every single year is not.

How WR has unfolded is nothing short of shocking. Washington was dumped by Pittsburgh because the WR factory couldn’t get production out of him. He should be the #4 guy when he’s healthy… but will probably start. Tolbert was the excuse why Dallas didn’t go out and get a name, and they wouldn’t even dress him. Turpin got 0 snaps. Noah Brown is a good player, but if he’s playing 40 snaps on offense then something has gone terribly wrong.

It’s as if this offseason didn’t even happen.

Anyone who was realistic saw this coming. Now granted, last night was terrible probably worse than the talent level of the team really is, but certain struggles were obviously going to rear their heads at some point.

- They again ignored DT thinking what they have is good enough despite watching the 49ers control our DL last year in a playoff game that apparently made Jerry so angry. Sorry, they added a 5th round pick to the mix. Hill is what he is.......... basically a bust. Gallimore flashes some talent and is the only guy who "might" grow into something. Odi is OK but his size will hinder him. The rest are JAGs. They have no high level talent there and yet year after year they watch teams with dominant OLs bludgeon them.

- Their plan at WR was a disaster. The oddity here being they saw what happened a few years ago when they tried to roll out with a bunch of JAGs at WR. Granted, this time they had Lamb but when the other WRs stink, a team can just roll coverages to Lamb, which the Bucs did, and then worry about one on one and basic zones with the other guys. They likely overestimated when Gallup would be back and that doesn't even begin to discuss the reality that it may take time for him to get his legs back under him. Washington was a blah signing but when he goes down, how the hell do you sit on your hands and do nothing? Tolbert being inactive is just the icing on the crap sundae that was our WR room.

- The worst might be the OL. They got pushed around in that 49ers game where we saw clear holes at LG and C. They said after the season they have to fix the OL. FA came and not only did they not sign ONE FREAKING OL, they actually sent Collins packing. There were options out there at OT, OG and C in free agency that could have improved us or provided better depth. Nope. The Jones' boys sat on their hands. Draft came and we took a raw project that they themselves said would play LG and maybe play LT down the road. Oh and we threw a late round pick at an OT. Sprinkled among all of this was the fact that our LT still was unlikely to finish a full season and their plan seemed to be Ball or the rookie Waletzko would be a more than adequate backup at a position where they were very likely going to have to play 2-3 games, at a minimum. To no one's surprise, Ball and Waletzko couldn't handle it, they had to throw aside their plan of their rookie playing OG and shifted him to LT and now they have interior depth problems at OG. But hey, they signed a 40 year old a week ago. Problem solved.

Jerry and Stephen are arrogant fools. They just are.

Wasn't a mirage to me. I saw right though it. We got worse not better. I have no idea what they thought they were doing, but the off-season was so bad, one could be forgiven for thinking they were trying to sabotage themselves. o_O
