NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has ordered the New England Patriots to turn over all videotape, files and notes relating to all their activity that resulted in the disciplinary action of coach Bill Belichick and the franchise, according to sources familiar with the details of Goodell's private communication with the team.

If the Patriots are not compliant, the commissioner is prepared to impose even greater sanctions, the sources said.

Goodell alluded to the league's position when he made his decision public to discipline the Patriots when he stated that the NFL would "review" and "monitor" the team's videotaping procedures, effective immediately. Privately, the commissioner was more specific in his demands and expectations with Patriots owner Robert Kraft when the two men spoke Thursday, sources said.

The action is being taken because Belichick all but conceded to the commissioner that his interpretation of the rules allowed him to use videotape of opposing team hand signals for future games but not on game day, sources said. The commissioner rejected that interpretation and was aware that there had been other incidents involving the Patriots in recent years.

If Goodell discovers that Belichick and the team has copied the files without disclosure to the NFL, the consequences will be significant, sources said.

ANOTHER PATS CHEATING ALLEGATION

As Jay Glazer of FOX mentioned during FSN's Pro Football Preview, folks around the league are offering up all sorts of suspicions regarding the Patriots in the wake of last Sunday's spy scandal.

And Glazer mentions another tactic of which we previously hadn't heard -- putting a camera in the end zone to capture clear images of Peyton Manning's pre-snap hand signals.

We expect more of this stuff to come, since more and more people are talking. Eventually, someone with first-hand knowledge of what has gone on will come forward.

POSTED 10:33 a.m. EDT, September 16, 2007

BROWN, GEORGE MAKE NEW CHEATING ALLEGATIONS

On FSN's Pro Football Preview, former Raiders receiver Tim Brown said that, when the Raiders were preparing to play the Patriots in the 2002 regular season, the team received an audio tape that apparently was made during the epic 2001 divisional playoff game between the two teams.

"You can hear Rich Gannon making audibles," Brown said, "telling Tyrone Wheatley and everybody to shift around. It was like he was talking in a microphone."

This allegation meshes with rumors that one of the Pats' tactics is to put microphones on defensive linemen for the purposes of capturing audibles and offensive line calls.

The Raiders, by the way, won the game, 27-20.

In response to Brown's assertion, former Titans running back Eddie George suggested that the Raiders receivers had radio receivers in their helmets during a 2003 game against Tennessee, because the receivers never went back to the huddle.

"I'm saying that you guys cheated," George said to Brown. "You had receivers in your helmets. What goes around comes around. . . . And that's why you don't have a ring today."

The alleged cheating also didn't work, because the Titans won the game 25-20.

Brown denied the allegations. But based on these two accusations FSN's Pro Football Preview is something that now must be added to the "must see" list of weekend preview shows.

And they would be willing to turn over this information why ?????

That is posturing at it's best for the fans and the league.

He is feeling the heat from his weak punishment of the cheating Pats and wants to try to put on a show to compensate.

Morning daddio - I think ALL the coaches should be wearing suitcoat and ties, but that 's just me...well, and probably you and some more old-timers.

The Patriots will comply because if they don't, they really will have their A$$e$ handed to them - this time.

I bet you are right about the NFL and Goodell catching a good bit of heat for the relatively weak sanctions, though.

When I see Goodell specifically investigating the role of Ernie Adams, the Pat's version of G Gordon Liddy, the dirty tricks specialist, then and only then will I believe the commissioner really WANTS to know the extent of the cheating.

That's my thought also. He is getting questioned about the extent of Wilsons suspension vs. little Bills.

I think Goodell realizes he dropped the ball and is looking for a way to add to the punishment. Thats OK- everyone is entitled to a mistake now and then.

Nope. Goodell is gathering ammo. He wants to see first hand how this is being done so it could make it easier to combat. He's got a "stoolie" now and will use him for all he's worth. That's what I'd be doing anyway.

He may be gathering ammo right now. But he should have waited until he got all of the facts BEFORE any punishment was discussed and/or reported. Then he wouldn't be having to go back and fix his mistake. But like a previous poster said, "Everyone makes mistakes". I'm just glad he has realized that he made a bad decision and is making a effort to make it right. JMHO

Nah. Requiring suits is essentially the same as banning them. Coaches should wear whatever they want. Well, except maybe that Detroit guy Cullen......
