The author no doubt interviewed a ton of former Cowboy players/coaches and unearthed a lot of interesting commentary/tidbits, but something about the cover makes me want to say "pass."

you gotta beat the best to be the best, and they did and were for awhile...
kudos to them...rather than worrying about what might have been let's just make it our turn...

Never seen it from that angle, it was indefensible but ya know what? We got Marty-B that can be indefensible in the endzone just like that.:starspin

Yeah, why don't they call that The Slant or The Play? It put one heck of a dagger in the hearts of the Niners. I was so elated as that play developed and when he was finally tackled out of bounds, I was beside myself. I had waited 14 years for the Cowboys to get back to The Show. And because of that play, I knew they were on their way. A great moment in Cowboys history. I heard Irvin was supposed to be in Harper's position, but Irvin chose to move to the other side of the field. I like the outcome, though. Jimmy Johnson's locker room speech after that game was one for the ages. Good times.

Right. They made the play, we did not.

If we had only scored on our final possession to win.........

...and were it not for the grab of a untucked shirt tail, the Cowboys very well may have scored on the final drive.

Every time I think of those early 80's Niner teams, I can't help but consider the similarities I see in Montana and Romo.

In my view Romo's the closest thing to Montana since he hung it up. Not saying he's the best since Montana. Although that distinction may be in his future.
I'm just speaking to his skill set. His ability to make precise throws on the move and to make something out of nothing. This was the single most valuable thing Montana brought to the table and at times made him a nearly indefensible player.

I have no doubt Tony will give us a few of these type post-season moments to reflect on for years,

What's so frustraing about that 1981 game is that Dallas dominated it, forced six turnovers, and if you watch that final drive its really anti-climactic and not as dramatic as commentators make it out to be.

Even after all that Dallas almost pulled off a miracle comeback to put them in field goal range, now that truly would've been memorable to win with 54 seconds left as opposed to having five plus minutes to execute a drive.

The real story of that game is penalties that stall Dallas drives, the Niners were lucky to win and were dominated in the trenchs all afternoon.

1981 is one of those years that should have ended in a Dallas SB win. I have no doubt the team beats the Bengals.

Oh, that was a gimme. As was slaughtering the Chargers in '94.

Hard to believe it was only 11 years (or was it ten) that separated those two plays. More time has now passed since our last playoff win.
