The potential of Gavin Escobar

I think many were frustrated when we drafted Escobar after the failures with Fasano and Bennett and our inability to push the 12 formation like the Patriots did with Gronkowski and Hernandez.

I think Escobar has a lot of potential, and I've heard people say he has the best hands on the team, though I think he has been ultimately too inconsistent catching the ball when his opportunities come. I do think he has a lot of potential though, and it is unfortunate that our offense is so tailored against him.

I think Escobar is utilized even less than Bennett was because of players like Hanna and Beasley.

I still really want to see us utilize that flex player to our ultimate advantage though. I'm hoping in year two (Linehan), Linehan finds better ways of using this kid.

Watching the Patriots Steelers game, it made me realize how special our team is going to be this year. I don't think the Patriots did anything special, they didn't run the ball well, and outside of a 52 yard gainer from Gronkowski they didn't real dominate them outside of good redzone execution. The Steelers just played a poor game and made some bad choices. A questionable trick play early really stands out.

I think both teams were looked on pretty favorably this year, but I don't think either team has the all around talent that we do. It's actually players like Escobar that stand out to me, because Escobar would probably be a star for the Steelers compared to an aging Heath Miller or in tandem with Miller as opposed to Markus Wheaton.

If that is the class of the AFC, I really think the NFC is going to be the conference who produces a super bowl winner.

I think we'll soon be seeing a change of the guard so to speak for the AFC, with teams like the Bills, Dolphins, and potentially the Titans looking to take over as the teams to beat.

That being said, I was wholly unimpressed with both the Steelers and Patriots. The only thing I saw was that Gronk is still Gronk and Brady is still Brady. The rest was 'meh'.

The Bills should have a great D. Like the Fins 2

Escobar needs more looks. Does Romo trust him?

I think Escobar is a pretty good player and on another team, he'd be a pretty good #1 tight end. However, I don't think he's some potential star that just isn't getting a shot here. If he were a star in the making, we'd find a way to get him on the field more than we do. My guess is, he's just "pretty good" and that's it.

Can't get on the field as long as Witten is still doing his thing. If Escobar was a better blocker, he'd see more time alongside Witten.

I think as far as receiving tight ends go, he could be up there with most of them. Top 10 probably.

I think it happens this year. I got the Dolphins winning that division..... I see Brady\Belicheck struggling to stay afloat these next couple of years and then the bottom will fall out and Brady will retire. Once Brady is gone, all of a sudden the Pats are just average; I am just as worried about the Fins game this year, as I am the Pats.

Bills will be tough too.

I think Escobars time is coming....maybe not this year, but if he can hang tight for a few, he will get some time;

I was not all that impressed with either Steelers or Patriots. But I don't put a lot of emphasis on the first few weeks either. Not totally. But also for 2 supposed SB contenders neither looked that great. Steelers made too many mistakes.

Brady looked himself. Steelers could have had an off night. Williams looked very good running the ball.

So if they can plug in Williams in place of Bell, what does that say for their OL, or Williams, or do the Patriots just have a lesser Defense, or just is it the first game type stuff. So how does this relate to our OL and RB's. Means nothing right now, but gives us something to look forward too.

As for Escobar, I think he will get more plays this year, especially in the red zone. More so than last year, which increased from the previous year. As Dez gets more coverage, this opens up TWill, Witten / Escpbar as well as Beasley. Throw in some play action pass of the running game is working, Escpbar can have his share of TD's.

Escobar's potential lies legitimately within his capacity as a receiver but his talent level as a blocker still suffers. Anytime an offense like the one Dallas employs has a TE with such a limited skillset, his participation will be limited as well. If he doesn't find the ability within himself to improve significantly in his blocking skill, he'll more than likely be relegated to a part-time role for the remainder of his career. I'd like nothing better than to be more optimistic about him but as of now, a situational role really appears to be his calling with the Cowboys.

Brady looked amazing. He was holding the ball for less than 2 seconds the entire game, completely taking the pressure off of his OL starting 3 rookies. But you can only get away with that for so long and you can only expect 3 receivers under 5 9" to hold up so long from a season of pounding when they are your top receiving options.

But the Patriots are primed to win another 12-13 games this year regardless. I just have my doubts about their defense over the course of another playoffs.

The Steelers O that was suppose to be the best in the league this year was crap. Running game is good, but they don't have a kicker and outside of Brown, I am not sure they have a receiver. Its just 1 game, but that offense looked mediocre.

This will be the year of Escobar. All those Gronk worshipers will be amazed or jealous. Cowboys are going to win SB 50 and Escobar will be a huge part of that victory. Wait and see.

Loved the play from the Cheatriots on the 1 yard line. Bunch formation, bringing in the heavyweights to try to punch it in from the 1, so Pitt has to bring in their heavyweights to stop it. Soon as they're lined up, Gronk moves out to the slot and is covered by a big run stuffing LB, big mis-match and an easy TD for Gronk. We have that same ability with our talent.

They were playing without their starting RB (who also happens to be one of the best in the league) and their #2 WR.

so what are you smoking? Escobar is not even close to Gronk in anything but supposedly size.

I was amazed at the lack of pressure up the middle that Pitt showed, they had no push at all, Ben was somewhat hurried all night but his players dropped many balls or made stupid moves like DHBey did in the endzone. Patriots looked pathetic on run defense and Williams from the steelers looks like a nice backup, wish we would've grabbed him.

Yeah, I think Stealers win rematch. Particularly at home.

Hope Linehan was taking notes.
